New Page[edit]

This is a new page moved from Easter Eggs, as discussed under that page's talk page and archived talk page. For now, the plan will be to move, doing only superficial edits, re-link everything, delete the original content, and THEN do any more extensive edits required.

After thinking about it for a while, and considering the nature of the discussion, I decided not to create these as sub-pages of the Easter Eggs page, since they're really not Easter Eggs in the classical definition of the term. --Robin Hood 17:00, 21 February 2008 (EST)

Giant Nirnroot[edit]

I have found one not far southeast of Vaermina's Shrine. Should I put it in the article? 77BeTa77 16:53, 1 March 2008 (EST)

I remember discussing the location of all the giant nirnroots somewhere before, but I'm darned if I can find it just now. Since this page includes giant items, though, I don't see any reason you shouldn't. I would put it either in the same bullet as the current giant nirnroot or as a new bullet immediately beneath. --Robin Hood 17:00, 1 March 2008 (EST)
No. The article lists the only Nirnroot plants that are exceptionally large in size (after checking the size of every single Nirnroot in the game, as listed in the construction set). There are a vast range of possible Nirnroot sizes, so only the ones that are clearly larger than usual are worth noting. The notes on exactly what size cutoff was chosen are buried somewhere on the site on a talk page if you really want to search for it. But the upshot is that I'm willing to bet that the Nirnroot you've found is smaller than the cutoff that was chosen. And changing the cutoff would mean that suddenly hundreds of plants would need to be listed, none of which anybody really cares about. --NepheleTalk 17:04, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Amendment. The "official" list of large nirnroots is at Oblivion:Nirnroot#Outdoor. And that list provides the exact scales of the plants. The information on this page really should be brought up to date so that it's the same as the Nirnroot article (really it should probably just link to the list on the Nirnroot page). But as you can see on that list, none of them are anywhere near Vaermina's shrine. --NepheleTalk 17:10, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Rename?[edit]

I was just wondering whether the page should be renamed to something like Oblivion:Anomalies or Oblivion:Peculiarities since (although there are a few interesting places mentioned in the article) many of the things mentioned on this article are objects and creatures rather than places, and I'm not really sure whether interesting is the way to describe some of them.--Willyhead 05:20, 12 April 2008 (EDT)

I'd agree it needs renaming but I'm not happy with any names that spring to mind... Oblivion:Interesting Features? Oblivion:Unusual Features? Not sure... –RpehTCE 05:43, 12 April 2008 (EDT)
Yeah, when I first named it, I wasn't aware of the Unmarked Places page, or I would've chosen a different name. As Rpeh says, though, I'm not sure what to change it to. Certainly "unusual" seems to cover a lot of what's on the page...not sure from there, though. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 13:58, 12 April 2008 (EDT)
It certainly is a tricky one to name since there's such a variety of things listed on the page. Many of the things on the page are jokes or secrets put into the game by the developers, so perhaps we could name it along those lines; something like 'peculiar secrets' (although that title doesn't really have a ring to it!). Other than that I can't really think of anything.--Willyhead 15:46, 12 April 2008 (EDT)

Giant Alo Vera[edit]

Go to the Brina Cross Inn and, just as you leave, go to your right and then right again and jump over the rock. then go straight forward and next to the tree in your path and there will be an Alo Vera a little bigger than you--Drake3555 00:00, 15 June 2008 (EDT)

So there is. Its scale is set to 1.82 - so nearly double normal size. –RpehTCE 01:00, 27 June 2008 (EDT)

Movable Giant Objects from the IC Palace?[edit]

All but the chair can be moved with the 'grab' function.

I've checked in game, but I haven't been able to move any of the items using Z. Is it just me/a PC version thing? I've moved the quote here until it can be verified. Vesna 20:50, 22 July 2008 (EDT)

Well I'm the one who put that there, and I was able to on the Xbox. There isn't an icon or anything for it on your screen, as you can't pick them up, but just like the some baskets that can't be picked up(there's one in the tutorial), they were still moveable. Darkle 20:54, 22 July 2008 (EDT)
I tried the same on PC, but those things wouldn't budge.... Strange. Vesna 21:59, 22 July 2008 (EDT)
I'd go check to see if maybe I was dreaming, or if it was just the one character. Or take a picture if I wasn't dreaming, but I'm about half a country away from my Xbox right now. Darkle 18:27, 23 July 2008 (EDT)
Definitely doesn't work on the PC and from the object type (static) I can't see it working on anything else either. You must have been dreaming! –RpehTCE 13:40, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
Well I'll have to check when I get home then. Darkle 14:50, 24 July 2008 (EDT)
I don't have pictures (camera is broken), but I went back and checked to see if it was a one time thing. It wasn't. I was able to move them all around that room with the grab function, except the big chair. Darkle 18:33, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
I can confirm that I'm able to move them as well (also on the xbox). — Unsigned comment by 209.184.116.246 (talk) at 11:45 on 4 October 2008
Confirmed! In the un-UOP'd version of the game on the PC, all the large items except the chair are movable. The UOP log lists this as of v1.7.0 (search for the word "Giant"), but no reason is given for the change. Based on what I'm seeing in the CS between the original and UOP versions, I'm guessing it's a problem with the NIF files associated with each item, but I don't do object/dungeon design, so I'm not entirely sure. Given this confirmation, I'll reinstate the original claim and put an appropriate note. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 12:39, 4 October 2008 (EDT)

Places[edit]

shouldnt this article list places that are interesting and have story lines because it is entitled intesting places, but there arent really places on here just "things", places like black rock caverns, lost boy caverns, veyond cave, vilverin and so on..its just an idea--LuciusZelgius

If you have a suggestion for a different name for the article, then feel free to propose a name change. However, this article was created specifically for the type of content that it currently contains (see the start of this discussion for links to all of the discussions that led to its creation). Expanding or drastically changing the article's content would defeat the page's intended purpose. --NepheleTalk 20:32, 21 November 2008 (EST)
ok i see, i may create a page for places i mentioned before--LuciusZelgius 00:44, 23 November 2008 (EST)
If you do, please create it as a subpage of your userspace. It can only ever be subjective, and we don't want that kind of page in the main game area. –RpehTCE 02:52, 23 November 2008 (EST)

Corpse Not Mentioned[edit]

I remember somewhere west of the Imperial City there is a corpse of a headless zombie floating in a pool of water. If you loot him there is a love letter on his person. I'm not sure this would be worth mentioning though. — Unsigned comment by 209.235.190.138 (talk) on 24 January 2009

It's already mentioned here. Since the corpse is right next to the fort it makes more sense to mention it there. –RpehTCE 09:07, 24 January 2009 (EST)

Shouldnt isolated house be in this article as well?[edit]

Shouldnt isolated house be listed on this article as well? IMHO its definitely is a interesting place.....does anyone else agree ?if yes and you have a good english feel free to add it...i would do it myself but my english sucks. --189.59.182.161 17:06, 17 March 2009 (EDT)

Nope. This page is only for unusual monsters or items. For larger sites see Unmarked Places. --SerCenKing 17:12, 17 March 2009 (EDT)

goblins[edit]

Do the goblins really rate a mention. It's a fairly obvious setup, dead goblin surrounded by bottles of booze. A couple of bottles of skooma/hist sap on a night stand would have been a nice touch ;). Since you would expect a dead goblin to release it's grip on a bottle when it died, the fact the bottle is stuck in it's hand makes sure you get the joke, (unless maybe you are from an Islamic country?). In any case, I found a skeleton on some rocks, (not a container but arranged bones) under a small wooden bridge, (part of the Orange road), north of Outlaw Endre's cave. Next to the bones is a sack containing food, so at first glance it looks like someone sat down to lunch and died some time ago... — Unsigned comment by 203.59.104.216 (talk) on 30 June 2009

I think the goblins definitely warrant a mention. They might not be as interesting as some of the other things on the list, but they're fairly unusual and rate their place on that score alone. If you've found something else you want to add - please feel free. –RpehTCE 08:55, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Unnamed and Godless Wayshrine[edit]

Thought this was interesting, somewhere in the Valus Mountains, east and maybe a little south of Collapsed Mine and Arrowshaft Cavern, is a strange wayshrine that has no altar. In the center is a chest that had nothing remarkable in it. The chest is next to a collapsed pillar which must have fallen into the ring. Like I said, no altar and no blessing, weird huh? I Checked and couldn't find this anywhere so I thought I should share it here.

— Unsigned comment by 12.154.220.107 (talk) on Feburary 14, 2012

I suspect you mean this one. It's also mentioned on the Wayshrines page. rpeh •TCE 21:03, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Delete this?[edit]

I never noticed this page before, with good reason - it is incomplete and pretty much useless by today´s standards and all the stuff here can be found elsewhere. I can see the reasoning behind the page's creation back then (to prevent too many Easter Eggs from being added), but we should be ahead of that by now. If we should create a complete page covering information on "Interesting Places" it would be 100 pages - 100 uninteresting pages. Opinions? --Krusty 09:48, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Deletion gets my vote. This has to be the dullest list of interesting things ever made! rpeh •TCE 09:54, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Exactly. I think I'll just prod it right away - with a link to this discussion. --Krusty 13:42, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
I think the drunk goblin locations is slightly valuable. Maybe it could be moved to Oblivion:Goblins. --Legoless 14:14, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
A very good idea, as long as we are certain the list is complete (drunken goblins ONLY!). It could be moved to this section along with this image. --Krusty 14:20, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
Was the goblin info saved before the deletion, or is it now lost? --Legoless 10:00, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

() Nothing is lost. I managed to forget the drunken Goblins, but I would like to hear just one more opinion before the list goes to the Goblin page. Here's the list:

  • When adventuring you may encounter dead Goblins clutching bottles of alcohol that have apparently drunk themselves to death. There are several spread across Cyrodiil:
One lying under an empty beer keg in the Crayfish Soggy Bottom section of Crayfish Cave.
One on top of an archway in the Lost Boy's Hidden Bastion section of Lost Boy Cavern with several beer bottles on the floor underneath.
One lying on the rocks outside of Infested Mine clutching a beer bottle.
One in the Horn Cave section of Horn Cave.
One in the Toadstool Hollow section of Toadstool Hollow lying in a barrel. The key used to unlock the door to the room the goblin is lying in is entitled 'Toadstool Grog Key'. Grog was a word developed during the 18th century, used to describe certain alcoholic beverages that were drunk by sailors of that period. It therefore makes sense that the goblin found in the room is clutching a bottle of alcohol.

--Krusty 10:15, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Thought I should offer closure to this discussion. The info was added to the Goblin page. —Legoless 18:02, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
