Welcome[edit]

Hello The Rim of the Sky! Welcome to UESPWiki! It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games on the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! —Legoless (talk) 19:30, 6 April 2015 (GMT)

Patroller[edit]

Congratulations, you're now a full patroller! Feel free to change the userbox on your page appropriately. Oh, and per the nomination guidelines, you should add an e-mail address to your account, if you don't have one, and enable the option for users to contact you in your preferences. Professional Editing[edit]

I've noticed occasionally that non-professional comments sometimes make it into your edits. I've had to fix these on multiple occasions (Such as [1] and [2]) and I've seen other editors revert it as well (such as [3]). I've also noticed unprofessional image descriptions, including "Daddy is back 😍" and "Loki-stick makes a BIG roar".

I get that you want to have fun with things, but this is not an appropriate forum for that. Most of the edits come as a single line in an otherwise great edit, which can make it difficult to detect unless it is on a high-traffic page. This is especially true since you are trusted as a patroller and thus your edits do not need to be reviewed and patrolled. The professionalism of the wiki is one of our selling points, and this actively distracts from that goal. I would encourage you to please be more careful about ensuring your edits are free of these sorts of things going forward. Jeancey (talk) 16:28, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

There's perfectly reasonable explanations for all of these instances. For the non-included instructional notes on the dungeon pages you linked, I was in a rush to publish the edits and didn't have time to look up what the standard comments were and copy-paste them in. Since these comments aren't able to seen unless one edits the page itself, I didn't see it to be much of a concern. I understand you take the usage of the hidden sections of ESO wiki pages as a priority (such as adding related quests for an assistant because of "consistency" and the very shrewd chance that they might be associated with a quest in the future) but if its any consolation, I created the the articles, so I wasn't stripping away at any content of the article I didn't add in the first place (and thanks for fixing it).
As for the image descriptions and my edit on the ON:Dragon page, I was a little intoxicated at the time; not as if its an excuse, just an explanation for the outlier files. They aren't ideal descriptions, but I also added the source for each image and a relevant enough licensing, so I didn't see a major concern. Very few users ever add descriptions to their images and readers rarely ever read them, and for the most part when I do add summaries they're properly descriptive, and completely optional since I don't have to add them in the first place. As long as the caption for the image on articles is relevant, that's all that matters. There's no point in enforcing a strict standard for filespace summaries (which are not high traffic), and you for example removing this completely due to its prose takes away actual info telling us what the location of the image is, when you could have easily left it alone.
The only edit worth correcting as a priority was when I added "Daddy" instead of "Mulaamnir" as a caption, also made when not in my regular state, since that was on a publicly read gamespace page. When I noticed it later I fully intended to fix it (before Sarthes fixed it which is nice of him) in the next content edit of the page. I created and frequently edited that page and have added the majority of content present on it, so you can believe me when I say I intended to correct my mistake. Sometimes I do put in some humorous inaccuracies when drafting up articles but I usually remove them before publishing the final proofread edit, and there's only very rare cases ie where I accidentally leave them in.
So that's that. Jeancey, I gotta ask, are you doing okay? The issues with the edits you pointed out are rather minor and feel cherrypicked, I find that you're making this bigger than it is. I believe you're already aware I plan to retire by the start of September, so you coming to me with this when I'm not going to spend much more time editing feels like I'm being unnecessarily micromanaged. You've been acting somewhat aggressive when addressing me and other users in the discord when we suggest making a change that you don't agree with, or when you justify reverting an edit. Your position of authority as an admin and using various guidelines and policies to back yourself up over trivial things is intimidating to most, so when you do this kind of stuff its hard to oppose you. The other admins don't exhibit this same approach and make less of a big deal about things. Me and some others have noticed this behavior arise rather recently, a couple months ago I find your attitude and editing style was friendlier. If something is troubling you, please say so, because at times it feels like you're taking it out in your edits. I'm now hesitant to work on more projects that I have lined up because I'm, well, scared of you, and that whatever I add is gonna be in vain because you'd just remove it. It always seems like I'm being talked down to by you when I try to explain myself.
You're a sensible guy Jeancey, I know you stand by your opinions and all but I really gotta recommend you take a different approach, because whatever you're doing right now is discouraging. I can't tell you what to do, but I trust you'll understand where I'm coming from and make the right call on your own. You're a very valued editor and all I'm hoping is for is the best. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 07:09, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
This was more of a "I've noticed this all along and kept forgetting to say something" rather than trying to make it bigger than it is. I very rarely revert edits, preferring to discuss with people than to cause problems by reverting. There are also many instances where, while I feel strongly about something, I don't end up doing anything since it's clear I'm the outlier in those instances. Off the top of my head, changes to how stuff is displayed on certain lorepages is a major one. I also opposed listing furstocks in the infobox at all, but I was in the clear minority on that one, and when the furstock is specifically stated, we do include it in the infobox.
I will however take you criticism into consideration and endeavor to be more careful with my tone in the future. I do apologize if I come off as scary, as I do not intend to scare anyone into doing or not doing anything. More times than not, I only jump in when I feel the opinion I hold isn't being represented in the conversation, which results in me only jumping in on areas where I feel strongly or where I'm likely to be in the minority. In most discussions I agree with what other people are saying and thus don't feel the need to reiterate a point someone else already made. Like you said, this isn't an excuse, just an attempt to explain why I might come off as more confrontational than other admins.
If you ever feel I cross the line in an edit or a discussion at any point in the future, please feel free to contact me and share your concerns, and I will try to rectify any issues that I may have caused. Jeancey (talk) 17:13, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding, if issues like this come up between us in the future I'll let you know. And if some other users have concerns, I hope that they'll contact you about it too. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 18:54, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

What's this tomfoolery?[edit]

Lore:Fragmentae Abyssum Hermaeus Morus has never had an author listed (confirmed in the game data too (https://esoitem.uesp.net/viewlog.php?action=view&record=book&id=1891), but you've added Online:Angmund as the author recently?? What you up to? Is this an assumption based on the fact that the book is found in his shack and he's a Mora worshipper? Very naughty... that's reaching. His tongue isn't even bitten through. - Jimeee (talk)

he right next to the only copy The Rim of the Sky (talk) 22:31, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
I don't think that's enough confirmation to list him as the author. There's nothing in his dialogue implying it, could just be a cult text. I've reverted the change for now. —Legoless (talk) 23:07, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
yea I thought it was pretty obvious (especially from the book content) but I kinda don't care what happens either way, so revert it if y'all want. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:08, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

The reason why, we shouldn't be linking Shane to Sheogoraths page.[edit]

While I do agree the book could be an easter egg towards Sheogorath and was a play off his name, maybe something that could be a note. Unless there is clear and undeniable evidence, in the form of an actual source that said Sheogorath wrote that book, then we shouldn't be linking back to the page and the weird name alone doesn't cut it as being proof. Shane could be any Orc who has a weird name for all we know, who could have worshiped Sheogorath and was a madman, doesn't make him a Daedric Prince. — Unsigned comment by TheVampKnight (talkcontribs) at 22:58 on 5 September 2021 (UTC)

By the literal subtitle of (Clever, no? Ha, ha!) next to the name Shane gro-Orath its instantly apparent that its an alias, not a real name, no author puts that next to their name. I hate to break it to you but Sheogorath isn't going to randomly say "oh by the way, I'm that one author of that book you might've read", since books are hardly referenced that way. If we only allowed 100% definite confirmations to be documented we'd have to get rid of half the stuff on the wiki; I'd give you other examples but I know you'd just contest those too. Shane gro-Orath is not a real name, please don't make me explain this stuff again, it takes way too much energy from me. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 05:12, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
I'm well aware of that being weird, and yes its an alias most authors use pen names and yes its not a real name, and while it very likely is Sheogorath. I still don't think we should linking back to his page. Its questionable at best, because then we are saying for a fact it is Sheogorath, when we don't know for a fact it is or not. Even if it might be obviously pointing or hinting towards that being a thing doesn't mean there is another explanation for it that is possible. Like its very possible the Author was a worshiper of Sheogorath and he used Sheogoraths name in his pen name. The Author was likely an Orc because he used an Orcish type of name and he could have put that oh this is clever as a way to say oh I merged the name of the god into my pen name and now I'm a madhat level of genius.TheVampKnight (talk) 05:29, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
It is a wiki practice to sometimes use common sense. Complete and utter confirmation of all info on the wiki will never be possible, if that was a strict rule then we'd have to remove every hyperlink on the 36 Lessons for assuming too much; hyperlinks like the one I had on Shane gro-Orath are merely added by the wiki to clarify things faster for editors who don't pick up on it. Please avoid rambling to me, I and many others have very little patience when dealing with you and you have a knack for not backing down on matters where you are incorrect. I've opened up a talk page where this can be settled, please try not to leave me any more messages. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 07:04, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

ASCII[edit]

Hi Rim. Be careful that you are using the ASCII apostrophe ' on the wiki rather than the single quotation mark . This is particularly important for article titles such as ON:Shipwright's Regret. —Legoless (talk) 13:48, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

yes sir my bad. I was just copying the text directly from the website, I was unsure which one to use so I avoided making the page. thank u for clarifying 🙏🙏 The Rim of the Sky (talk) 01:33, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Source for Info?[edit]

Hey Rim, I was just looking at this edit and I'm wondering what your source for that was. Like the person who reverted it, I can't find anything on it, but I don't want it to be reverted if there's a legitimate source for it somewhere that we just didn't find. Thanks! Robin Hood(talk) 18:31, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Hey Robin, thank you for being so polite! I talked to the person who reverted it and agreed with their decision. This was just an honest mistake on my part as I misread something, and thought the article for "Biography of Barenziah" was just the Daggerfall version of "The Real Barenziah" and got the two mixed up. You see, the article names for all Real Barenziah/Bio of Barenziah books are very messy and vary in both lorespace and individual gamespaces, having suffixes like (Daggerfall), not to be confused with the namespace "Daggerfall:", even the volumes vary between being spelled like "Volume 5" and "Volume V" etc., its a lot of info to take in. With such similar names/content you can understand why this happened, just simple human error and we all make mistakes by accident. The rest of what I added was backed up by plitinius' dialogue.
Tribunal namespace in general needs a lot of work, and there's still a lot of missing/incorrect info and outdated writing on pages in that namespace I never touched, at the time I was trying to fix up pages that I could with improved info. In one case I rewrote Tribunal:Sotha Sil, which if you look at the talk page had its fair share of problems. Using info and dialogue solely from Tes III: Morrowind (which can be found easily thanks to the wonderful CsList plug-in!) I was able to fill the page with accurate info and have it comply with updated guidelines, just as one example. Thank you for asking me, I hope this clears things up, and I appreciate it! Hey don't worry about it! Honestly I'm just glad somebody got around to making those location pages, so thank you a ton for doing that! :) Place descriptions are tricky as hell sometimes, and some of them are hard to describe to begin with, so it ain't no big deal The Rim of the Sky (talk) 22:06, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Conjured Wisp Confusion[edit]

Hello! With regards to the Eyevea/Guild Conjured Wisp, the only place I see it listed as "Eyevea" currently is on the web version of the Crown Store. In the in-game Crown Store as well as on the Collections menu, it is listed as "Guild." (I accidentally uploaded the promotional image as "Eyevea" and the main image as "Guild" before I realized what was happening.) I thought I'd check with you before fixing it as you're the one who redirected the "Guild" page to the "Eyevea" page; although, to be honest, I think it should be reversed. Unless it's different on another platform (I play PC-NA), I don't see anywhere actually in game where it is listed as "Eyevea Conjured Wisp." Kallykat (talk) 02:23, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
