A Family Divided[edit]

When you approach the camp's barricade, Sela will try to talk to Danus on the other side.

Danus: "Go away! If you're infected, you'll kill us all!"
Sela: "We're not infected, you idiot! I'm trying to find my husband!"
Danus: "I don't care if you're looking for Nerevar. You're not getting in here."
Sela: "This is getting us nowhere. There's got to be another entrance through the crypts."

Before you speak to Sela in the camp:

"Move along."

Once you make it into the camp, you can speak to Danus directly:

"You're not wanted here, outsider. For all we know, you're carrying the plague."
What plague?
"The Llodos plague. It's been ravaging our cities, turning our loved ones into walking corpses. We came here to escape it."
What happened to Sela's husband?
"Garil was infected. He seemed fine at first, but the infection became obvious during one of our hunting expeditions.
I had to abandon him in the crypts. I doubt he survived."

Speaking to him again before reporting to Sela of your findings:

"Our ways are not your ways, outsider. Don't meddle in things you don't understand."

A Bitter Pill[edit]

If you talk to him before discovering anything, he will say:

Why did you try to keep us out?
"There are travelers everywhere, carrying the plague. Once the symptoms reveal themselves, it's too late. How could we be sure? When death comes knocking, you don't invite him in for tea."
You don't seem worried about me, now.
"I haven't much choice, have I? You're here now, so I can only pray you're not infected.
And even if I wanted to force you out, I doubt I'd have much luck. You're clearly a formidable opponent."
Why didn't you stay in Narsis?
"The quarantine will not hold. It's only a matter of time before the city's water supply is tainted, and Narsis is ravaged by the Llodos plague. My people are not infected, and I've vowed to keep them safe."
So, you've sought refuge in a crypt teeming with undead?
"Away from the roads, away from the cities, away from the unclean throngs of infected. We've chosen to leave the outside world to the fate it deserves. Here, we will be safe."

Discover Garil's notes and return to confront Danus:

"Our ways are not your ways, outsider. Don't meddle in things you don't understand."
I found Garil.
"Did you now?"
I also found the journal he kept. I know your secret.
"Spare me your judgments. We do what we must to survive.
I've watched hundreds die from the plague. Horrible, painful deaths. My people are safe here, but they must eat. Something had to be done."
And when Garil discovered the truth, you banished him.
"Garil was weak. He didn't understand the need for … moral ambiguity. He threatened to turn the entire camp against me. That was unacceptable."
You're sick. I'm putting an end to this madness!
"You would doom my people to starvation, or death by the plague? That's truly madness."
I understand. You had no choice.
If you didn't leave Sela on the camp:
"I'm glad we understand each other. Take Sela and go. And make sure she never returns to this place. She is obviously a woman of taste. Cinnamon, to be specific. And we all get so very hungry"
If you left Sela on the camp:
"I'm glad we understand each other, outsider.
It's a shame we didn't reach this understanding earlier. We might have spared your friend. Can you smell the cinnamon aroma? She was a woman of undeniably good taste."

If you agreed with his cannibalism and left Sela in the camp and exit the conversation before turning in the quest, he will say:

"Our ways are not your ways, outsider. Don't meddle in things you don't understand."
You had no choice. You did what you had to. (Leads to quest completion dialogue)

If you put a stop to the cannibalism by burning the meat, and you left Sela with him in the camp:

"How dare you judge us? We do what we must to survive!"
I've destroyed your food stockpile.
"You what? Do you have any idea what you've done?"
I gave you a chance to put this madness behind you.
"You really have no idea, do you?"
About what?
"Isn't it obvious? You left your friend here in the camp, unguarded, and now she's nowhere to be found.
She was obviously a woman of good taste. Cinnamon, to be specific. And my people were so very hungry."

If you exit the conversation before turning in the quest, he will say:

"You win, outsider. We'll return to the surface."
What am I missing? (Leads to quest completion dialogue)

If you burned the meat, but convinced Sela to leave:

"How dare you judge us? We do what we must to survive!"
I've destroyed your food stockpile.
"You what? Do you have any idea what you've done?"
Given you a second chance. Lead your people out of here.
"It's that simple, is it? Just leave? Return to the outside world and forget what we've done here?"
Life is never simple.
"You sounds like Garil.
Perhaps you're right. Perhaps we have lost our way. Those who wish to leave will be free to do so. I can never return. This is my world, now. This is where I will die. Farewell, outsider. May you never know hunger."

If Sela left and you burned the meat, if you speak to Danus again after finishing the discussion with him:

"You win, outsider. We'll return to the surface."

If you agreed with Danus, but convinced Sela to leave:

"Our ways are not your ways, outsider. Don't meddle in things you don't understand."

If you agreed with Danus, and left Sela in the camp, he is no longer essential and you can kill him.

Notes[edit]

  • After completing the quest, he will have 313 (1%) health and his status will change to neutral, allowing you to avenge Sela's death if you left Sela in the camp.
