PSNProfiles[edit]

Just a quick question, how did you get your PSNProfiles profile image on your userpage? - Cheezytrousers (talk) 21:28, 5 January 2013 (GMT)

It's not a PSNProfile one, it's from a different site. The PSN site offers a link for "embedding" on your page, find that and hey presto! Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:33, 5 January 2013 (GMT)

Babette edit[edit]

The edit about Babette is, in my opinion, noteworthy for this reason right here. See, it's a HUGE missed opportunity on Bethesda's part. Generic things are fine.

Does this help explain why its so noteworthy?70.178.75.95 19:47, 6 January 2013 (GMT)

Because it would need added to every single Altmer and Dunmer page that we don't know the birth date of. And as you've said, it's your opinion that it's a missed opportunity, not a factual thing. Yes she may have been around, but that doesn't mean she was willing to be found. An unexplained absence from previous games is not in any way noteworthy. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:57, 6 January 2013 (GMT)
(edit conflict) I think the (currently) final response in that thread really sums up the reasoning. Babette is only one of dozens of characters, perhaps more, who would have memories of that time. It's unfortunate that Skyrim doesn't include oral history more, but the only thing that makes Babette stand out when it comes to the long-lived people is that she appears to be a child. No doubt many of the other vampires would have the same insights.
UESP generally tries to document what is, not what could have been. About the only time we might document someone not talking about something is if it were notable in the sense that every other vampire/elf/whatever talked about the days of Arena, but Babette didn't. That would be a discrepancy, and therefore noteworthy. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:03, 6 January 2013 (GMT)

Unmarked Places ... of My Soul[edit]

Did I say thanks for your input and research on names for the SR unmarked places page (Pinewatch: Bandit Camp)? Because I don't like saying "thanks", so maybe not. I'm not even saying thanks here. Just wondering if I did. And it's a rhetorical question, so I'm not seeking an answer, and in fact prefer not to receive one. I don't think loading up talk pages with personal stuff is cool. --JR (talk) 04:27, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

Well thanks, for um... not saying thanks? The actual name given by the guide is "Bandit Bridge: Pinewatch" though, so it might need changed. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:36, 12 January 2013 (GMT)
Don't try to change the subj--- wha??? OK. I'll fix that before it makes you look too bad. --JR (talk) 17:54, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

Help me with Quest template which calls for radiant locations[edit]

Hi Silencer - you just undid my edit on Skyrim:Rings_of_Blood_Magic page that added Notes section and information regarding a radiant location because it was too specific. Just so you know, I looked at the Quest template which wants radiant locations noted. I added note to help others to be aware they will have to do another quest to complete (as I am doing now). Also, to forewarn folks they will need the sword if they already completed Red Eagle quest and sold sword as I usually do. In other words, this wasn't a quick quest as most radiant quests are for me. I would have added radiant locations as Quest template requests but do not know all of them nor the method for finding that information. I did not see the location page you mention in your edit undo note - where is it? Maeve4444 (talk) 00:59, 14 January 2013 (GMT)

Duh - I'll bet you meant the Rebel Cairn's page when you said location page. Still think folks should be forewarned about sword though. Maeve4444 (talk) 01:07, 14 January 2013 (GMT)
(edit conflict) The location is Rebel's Cairn, and in the notes, though quite small, is a note about being sent there on a radiant quest. Here is a list of all the dungeons (some need omitted if they have the Dwarven Ruins keyword) that the quest can send you to, quite large as you can see. Thus notes on individual pages with a small chance of being picked shouldn't be added. Feel free to make the note on the location stand out a little more though. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:11, 14 January 2013 (GMT)
Wow - list is huge. To make sure I understand, let me ask - the Rings of Blood Magic quest can send you to any of those locations on that list? Wow - again. So why do some faction radiant quests only have specific locations and this one used the whole world (I can understand why for Thieves Guild)? Is this the way Dawnguard DLC was implemented? BTW - I looked at the note about being sent to Rebel's Cairn for radiant quest. It made it's point and not sure how to make it stand out more. I'll think on that one and let you know if I edit. Maeve4444 (talk) 03:52, 14 January 2013 (GMT)
Some quests search for boss chests or boss NPCs, some look for two keywords (such as dungeon and cave). Most of those locations can be chosen, I'm sure there are a few that are also Dwarven ruins, which are omitted, but it is a big list. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 04:04, 14 January 2013 (GMT)
Hi, Silencer - took a shot at the Rebel's Cairn radiant quest note to make it stand out. Take a look, please. Maeve4444 (talk) 05:18, 14 January 2013 (GMT)
Hi again - I've realized you meant the "Skyrim Radiant Quest Note". I noticed it after I edited Rebel's Cairn Notes section regarding sword (this is the edit I refer to above). I did not see it before and understand what you mean by it doesn't stand out. I think upper case "NOTE" or italicized font would help. FYI - That note's link to list of radiant quests with huge number of possible locations does not include the DG DLC radiant quests. I've added a request for them to be added to list on talk page. It was fun to learn all this, thank you for the help :) Maeve4444 (talk) 06:00, 14 January 2013 (GMT)

Task List[edit]

I would just like to point out that at the bottom of the task list it says "Any editor can add a task to the page: if there's something that you think needs to be done on the site, add it! If you're not sure about your idea or would like feedback, add it to the talk page and ask for other editors to provide their opinion." So that editor was perfectly justified in adding it to the page. Jeancey (talk) 02:27, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

Yes, a task, not a suggestion of adding something entirely new to the way Lore NPC pages are set up. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 02:29, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

Skyrim fast travel out of Pelagius mind[edit]

Silencer is there really no option if you fast travel out of pelagius mind other than starting over? Thanks in advance 68.3.198.75 19:56, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

Only if your on the PC and can identify the script in the quest that stops interactions with objects. You could end the quest via setstaging, but that might be too late. Beyond this, there are no other options to restoring the game to its fullness. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:03, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

Undo Edit - Easter Egg[edit]

While yes the Easter Egg was on the page, it is better to say that rather than undo an edit and leave a summary as most people won't check to see where there comment went, they'll simply put the comment back. Thanks for pointing out that it was already on there. Turn's out when I tried using the ctrl+f search I misspelled Babette the first time. Guess I was a little too hyped when I saw Babette in-game. An alternative would have been to leave a note on my talk page. Mikeyboy52 (talk) 08:07, 20 January 2013 (GMT)

Half of the archives are people proposing the same eggs again and again. It's bad enough when an egg has already been rejected, never mind when it's already on the page. Simply checking the page for the correct spelling of Babette is not my problem, though if you'd checked the table of contents you should have seen "Interview of a Vampire" up there, as with all our eggs, we title them by what they reference, not what the egg in-game is. Abandoned Lodge Edit (Thanks)[edit]

Thanks for the header edit, I was on my way back to that when I noticed it was removed already by you. sneaky bastard :P. Wasn't sure if i had used ' or = in the end after making the edit and went elsewhere when it dawned on me. Thanks again. 00:57, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Ah, yes. Frequently when I refresh the recent changes after doing some things I don't notice that although the edit is a few places down the list it was still only done in the last minute. Also I see you have joined the legions of users who's signatures are usually longer than their posts in terms of characters :p Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:01, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Ye, I am probably going to change that again. While i enjoy the design, the amount of information needed for it is ungodly large. Wish more people used the latest and greatest browsers, I'd just use inline css and gradient properties to set it up, but noooo, backward compatibility and what not! 01:51, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
I wasn't criticizing or having a go, just poking a little. No need to change it on my behalf. With a little imagination/creativity you can make all sorts of things happen to your signature, pity I don't have much in that department, but then I'm happy enough with my signature. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:55, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
I didn't take it as such, nor am i taking it as now. I simply believe just because I wanted a signature to look nice, there is no reason for it take a large block of text for it happen. It makes some editing of talk pages very confusing if you don't know where something starts and something ends. I created a new one, probably going to edit some, but for now it is the way it is, and less cumbersome to a page. ᴷᴬᴸᴯᴵᴻᵀᴵ□ᴻ 02:12, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

PS3 v1.8 bugs[edit]

RE "looks like a one-off glitch, all spells work fine for me" from 00:51, 12 February 2013‎ update

Patch version 1.8 may have introduced a bug so the player cannot cast predetermined duration spells. Altering system-controls and options did not fix this issue. Starting a new game showed issue was still presented and not due to save data data. Unverified: deleting game data for all downloaded patches and re-installing.
  • Doubt one off issue because save game, settings/options, starting a new game, and deleting all game data and reinstalling did not fix this bug.
  • Perhaps console specific

QuNybble talk 1826, 11Feb2013(MDT)

Not console specific because I checked on my PS3 as soon as I saw it, as I was playing the game at the time. Exactly which spells don't work would help, as I didn't test them all, just one of each type, bound, conjure, armor, etc . Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:32, 12 February 2013 (GMT)
Still no luck - it appears to be any spell that takes a charge up time i.e. iron flesh, muffle, bound bow. Im updating my PS3 system currently, and resetting all controller settings. Thanks for the help and tweeking my posts as always! QuNybble talk 2151, 11Feb2013(MDT)
All three of those spells work for me, and I tried a few Master level spells which take even longer to charge, they work. Sorry that something has broken it in your game/disc. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:14, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Lore page transclusion[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you would be able to tell me how one determines how much of a lore page should be transcluded into those other pages to which they are transcluded. For example: Lore:House Telvanni is currently transcluded down to, and including, ...wizards did not fear vampires nearly as much as others did.. This results in a good amount of information transcluded to MW:House Telvanni, but a comparatively long entry in Lore:Factions H. On the other hand, Lore:House Redoran is only transcluded as far as ...Gnisis, which {{MWTense}} rented to the Imperial Legions. This gives a concise entry in Lore:Factions H, but means the info about the house on MW:House Redoran is quite short. To be consistent, either the amount translcuded from House Telvanni should be reduced to just the introductory paragraphs, or the House Redoran transclusion should be extended to ...moved the council to Ald'ruhn as a result. How should this be determined? Is it reasonable to transclude the shorter version and add a link to the main Lore page "for more information"? --Enodoc (talk) 22:49, 20 February 2013 (GMT)

It's a judgement call really, based I would say, mostly on the available information on the subject. The minimum limit to me would be that what is transcluded sums up the subject wholly, yet concisely. Just on Telvanni, I personally would move the last transcluded paragraph above the 3rd and 4th ones, and omit them. They go into detail about other things than what the House "is". I'm not really a loremaster though, I do edit the space, and think I know quite a bit, but I have yet to actually write a lore article that isn't just taking what is written elsewhere, so someone else may have a better idea than me. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:04, 20 February 2013 (GMT)

uugh, I finally was able to post my message! When I attempted to reply to your message on my talk page, it told me I was spamming, but it appears to have allowed me post it as a new section. Anyway, there it is. Is there anyway you can disable that spam filter on my account? I'm not going to be very likely to try to develop this spreadsheet here if it keeps kicking out my changes like this :( A goat on a boat (talk) 20:36, 22 February 2013 (GMT)
Hi Goat. In the course of your last few edits you should have managed to create the right parameters to bypass the filter yourself. You need 10 edits over 4 days to be "autoconfirmed". The tenth edit was the first small edit above, and your account is well over 4 days old. There should be no problems from that filter anymore. If you're wondering why it's so strict, it has blocked over 500 spam edits in the last two days. This is the extent of our spam problem, and I hope you understand why it needs to be so strict. You can modify to your hearts content now. Also, I'm not great with the sort of tables you want, plus I have some connection problems on my end, so I can't really help at the moment. You can ask RobinHood70 or Alfwyn for a more immediate answer. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:11, 22 February 2013 (GMT)

I have found that if you go to Northwatch Keep at a low level, the bows of northwatch archers may not reach elven quality. These bows may be imperial bows or long bows,I am not quite sure. — Unsigned comment by Dreamshadow (talkcontribs) at 03:41 on 5 March 2013‎

Respawn problems[edit]

I'm afraid that I have to bother you once again.I have some questions about respawning.

1.It seems that weapons and shields dropped by many generic enemies will never disappear on the ground. If the whole place has respawned, they may be picked up by newly-respawned nearby enemies. When I loot their bodies,I can find two sets of weapons/shields.Is these all right?

2.I'm not quite sure if it is a commom bug. Some outdoor places may have "incomplete respawn".The chests/plants there can respawn normally, but occupants/items will never respawn. For myself, two locations have this problem,Ruins of Rkund and Greenspring Hollow(They do have normal respawn time).Another one is Four Skull Lookout,as is shown in its discussion page.Do you have any ideas about this?

ThanksDreamshadow (talk) 09:12, 5 March 2013 (GMT)

That's a lot of work to do, and some questions I can't answer. I'm going to copy this over to the Respawning talk page, where more people will see it. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 15:19, 5 March 2013 (GMT)

Formal Wiki Style vs UESP[edit]

My motivation for changing the Bug note under Soul Gems from second to third person was a kind of pedantic attachment to the Wiki Manual of Style that is probably inappropriate here given that the focus at UESP is more on the user's experience of the site than style per se.

"Second-person pronouns

Do not use the second person (you, your); it is often ambiguous and contrary to the tone of an encyclopedia
(see also Instructional and presumptuous language, below).

Use the third person (a noun, or he, one, etc.): instead of When you move past "Go", you collect $200,
use When players pass "Go", they collect $200, or A player passing "Go" collects $200.
The passive voice may sometimes be used instead: When "Go" is passed, $200 is collected."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style

So in short, I just wanted you to understand why I made the change and that I accede to your reversion. Kalevala (talk) 21:35, 19 March 2013 (GMT)

I understand where you are coming from. We do, however, have our own guidelines on perspective, the overriding one being consistency. Articles are allowed to be written in 3rd person, but the whole article needs to be of the same style. In that particular instance, the notes section was littered with "you". Book layout and black books[edit]

I'm afraid that I couldn't agree with you about the changes of black books. I do think the unique power is an important part of black books. May I have you image a common scene. There are 7 books and 21 different powers in total. It's very easy for anyone to get confused. If I want to change my choices, I have to visit UESP for some help. What exactly I know are only the names of each book. Which page should I visit then? I think many users will choose the book pages. Unfortunately, they will be disappointed. What's more, these books are not common books, traditional layout may not be suitable for them. I know it's difficult to change the standard book layout. I just made these changes based on my own experience. I visited the book pages for some help, but I was unlucky. I had to click another link. May I have you take this into consideration? Thanks Dreamshadow (talk) 05:48, 26 March 2013 (GMT)

The books are unique but that does not warrant the placement of the reward of the quest where the text of the book is. The books as items take you to Apocrypha, and an activator which has the name of the book is activated at the end of the quest to gain one of the three powers. The books are disambiguated from the quests, so in all cases you are looking for the book, which means you want the text of the book. If you say that the powers are "inside" the book, so are the locations, but the book page is for the text, the quest page is for the quest and its rewards. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:29, 26 March 2013 (GMT)
Very well, I can understand what you mean. Thanks any way~ Dreamshadow (talk) 12:41, 26 March 2013 (GMT)
Dreamshadow is not without a point here. I would direct everyone's attention to additional information on book pages. The existence of this style guide seems to confirm that information other than the item's text and the non-include game specific box may appear on a book page. The use of {{non book| with either === Notes === or a link to the quest page may be a better solution from the user's perspective wherein he knows only the book's title. Kalevala (talk) 20:03, 30 March 2013 (GMT)
The existence of a template does not mean it must be included. The note template is mainly used for notes such as errors that don't fit with the sic tag, changes from one game to the next, etc, not its "reward". Dreamshadow's opinion was that they should be on the page, my opinion was that they should not be, after this brief discussion Dreamshadow did not pursue any further action, suggesting he was satisfied by my explanation. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:15, 30 March 2013 (GMT)
Nor do I suggest that any optional aspect of a template "must" be used, notice please "may be better". Dreamshadow here is really a proxy for the naive user who comes to the site with limited information. He writes: "What exactly I know are only the names of each book. Which page should I visit then?" I would agree that enumerating quest rewards is misplaced. However, the suggestion of a link back to the relevant page when natural or intuitive navigation leads to the book page for a unique class of books seems very much in the spirit of sound navigation within a Wiki and avoids redundancies. Perhaps it should be included in: See Also? Keep up the good work! Kalevala (talk) 20:37, 30 March 2013 (GMT)

Grove of Trials vs. Kynareth's Grotto[edit]

Oblivion:Kynareth's Grotto is about the interior location; Oblivion:Grove of Trials is about the exterior. Having the same main image for both seems confusing. Maybe a merge is in order. —Legoless (talk) 01:51, 27 March 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, I wondered where the image came from and don't see the Grove of Trials in the cs, and if the grotto is just the interior zone they should be merged. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:53, 27 March 2013 (GMT)

Thanks! / Transcluding Lore Articles[edit]

Hey Silencer, thank you for your hint! :-) There was a lonesome /noinclude at the end of the article, resulting in notes and references being transcluded to Lore:Places A, so I was trying to be extra thorough. BTW, do you have an idea why articles like Lore:White Gold Tower are not yet listed on the respective place pages? So far I can only speculate: It seems to be quite tricky to place the noincludes (or even to rewrite the article) so that transclusion to Lore:Places W and to Oblivion:White Gold Tower works well. --Holomay (talk) 18:17, 30 March 2013 (GMT)

I don't know why so many lore place articles are not on the lore place list pages. I'll take a look at WGT. Sometimes it's better to reduce the transclusion to just one or two paragraphs in order for it to read properly everywhere, and then add an extra one to the gamespace for specific information. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:29, 30 March 2013 (GMT)

Non-Relevant NPCs[edit]

Just FYI, the basic code is almost done, just a few things to go on that front. I'm just running some checks before I finish writing the code, though, and it's pointing out that our Morrowind Non-Relevant NPC pages need some love, so I'll work on those tonight and tomorrow, then finish off the code.

Once I've got it copying the Magicka to the NRNPC page, do you want me to update the source table to use the {{NPC Data}} template? It's a bit more work, but I could fairly easily have the bot check that all the parameters match, then update the table if they do, and spit out a report for anything where it didn't. I can probably get it converting those that come from {{NPC Summary}} templates as well if you want. Or would you rather a human did that? If you're double-checking everything against the CS anyway, it may not make much difference. Robin Hood  (talk) 04:23, 2 April 2013 (GMT)

I gave up double-checking a while ago, there was just never any wrong. If you can change the tables that would be ok, just some of the tables on smaller locations have missed out the factions header. If you can rewrite the whole table by bot that would avoid that problem. If you can code for all that, then go ahead. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 08:50, 2 April 2013 (GMT)

Palace of the Kings[edit]

Hi there, I noticed you are working on the Palace of the Kings page. I play on xbox, but one odd thing I noticed was I can see the plaques for Olaf and Harald on the stone pillars in the courtyard, but the same plaques are repeated on the other side of the pillar. I'm sure I recall seeing the Wulfarth plaque there, but looking all around the courtyard, I cant locate his plaque anywhere. Any ideas? --Jimeee (talk) 08:56, 16 April 2013 (GMT)

@Silencer: Yeah, I really get what you mean. Considering how often we delete long-term pages like this and how much more complicated it is over a normal deletion, it's extremely easy to forget one of the many things you have to do or not do. Plus the added confusion of four different people working on the numerous steps needed to be done, and it's just a pain to do. Thanks for understanding, and catching that again. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 21:04, 2 May 2013 (GMT)
No problem again, it's easy to forget when you set you mind to removing all links to a page as per more "normal" pages. Those three pages were the only valid ones anyway, the other book only transcludes to Skyrim, and all the other links from lore pages were outside of the transcluded sections (if any). NPC Data[edit]

Thanks for doing some of the NPC Data conversion. I'm aware that there are leftovers, especially in TR3 space, but I'm still recovering from my stupid hamstring injuries, and sitting at my desk for any length of time is uncomfortable, so there won't be any bot work, at least not that requires new or altered programming, in the near future. The more you do, the less I have to worry about programming the bot to do, but don't worry if you might've missed any or whatever—part of the work I've already started is figuring out how to catch all of them, even those that might not be properly linked, or previously missed, etc. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:01, 15 May 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, you said something about not being able to get them all with the bot on the run, so some tedious work helps me fall asleep at night (tis 3am here). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 02:04, 15 May 2013 (GMT)

Your recent blocks[edit]

The two blocks you performed today were unnecessary and could be viewed as breaking policy. As UESPWiki:Blockuser states:

Blocks issued by blockers are limited to six hours or less and should only be issued when no administrator is available, in accordance with the Blocking Policy.

You are not an administrator, so there is no need for you to come in just minutes later and make pointless six hour blocks (especially considering nonsense bots are blocked for a year, not six hours). AKB came in two minutes later and corrected your blocks, which would have been avoided had you left it to him in the first place (plus, Krusty was also online). Yeah, if they were making a ton of edits over a span of fifteen minutes or so without being blocked, then I could understand it, but that wasn't the case. I would advise more discretion going forward. elliot (talk) 02:02, 19 May 2013 (GMT)

Please stop harassing me, if you have anymore issues with the things I do go to an administrator, this is nothing more than a hate campaign. If the admins had any issues with what I did there, they would have said so, so go away. Minor Edits made two similar blocks where an admin updated the block within 20 minutes 1 2, and neither you or the admins had any issues. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 13:21, 19 May 2013 (GMT)
The availability of an admin can only be determined two ways: if one has edited recently, or if one is on IRC. Personally, I think it's enough to watch the recent changes. My interpretation of the blocking policy is that if there's been no activity from an admin for a few hours, it's okay to use blocking privileges. Now, an admin may pop up a few moments later and change the block settings, but that's really out of the blocker's hands. If you look at Krusty's contributions, there were gaps of several hours between his last action and when he changed the block settings on the people I blocked, indicating that he, at least, was not active prior to the time I issued those blocks, and I can only assume at this point that no other admins had been active at the time, either. Since Silencer's blocks are more recent, we can still see in the recent changes, at the time I write this, that there had been no activity from any admin for roughly a couple hours before each of Silencer's recent blocks. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 16:50, 19 May 2013 (GMT)
Sorry, telling you that you broke policy is not harassment nor is it a "hate campaign". You should be less focused on me (and Minor Edits), and more focused on you. You also failed to put them on the block notifications list. So if you want me to "go away", then you should handle yourself better. And Minor Edits, in both cases, an administrator had edited within the last "few hours" of the block (Dwarfmp on the first and AKB on the second). I fail to see how you ignoring empirical evidence is helping. elliot (talk) 19:52, 19 May 2013 (GMT)
No, its a hate campaign and harassment. You bring up things that I do yet do not do the same when other editors do the exact same thing, therefore it is not the issue, it is me you are focused on. I'll ask you not to contact me again, and if you do I will ask an administrator to enforce an interaction ban. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:58, 19 May 2013 (GMT)
Stop trying to be a victim. If other people have done the same, then they need to be held accountable. Just because I haven't brought anything to their attention doesn't make you any less culpable. elliot (talk) 20:03, 19 May 2013 (GMT)

Skyrim:Traps[edit]

Because I see you're a patroller, I believe you are a good person to ask:

An unregistered user made the last edit to Skyrim:Traps. I looked at the page's history and do not see any cosmetic changes, just some editing text (can't think of what to call it). Anyways, I didn't want to revert it because I wasn't sure if it actually accomplished anything or it is pointless/vandalism.--WoahBro (talk) 02:15, 20 May 2013 (GMT)

It's not vandalism, they simply changed the formatting so that it used regular wiki code instead of a simplified template. Functionally, it does the exact same thing. — ABCface 02:21, 20 May 2013 (GMT)

About the interaction ban thing[edit]

Just figured I'd pitch in and say not to let elliot get under your skin. I wasn't involved, so I wouldn't know, but elliot can have that effect on people sometimes (whether or not it is intentional is not my place to say, so I won't). Your contributions speak for themselves, and you're a valued member of the community. We all make mistakes, and we shouldn't let them overshadow the things we've done correctly. You're one of the best editors we have, and you shouldn't let anyone tell you otherwise. ThuumofReason (talk) 11:42, 20 May 2013 (GMT)

I never thanked you! I got this at the time where I had stopped writing anything on the wiki about it, so the reason I didn't reply was due to not wanting to be involved with anything related. Things have resolved themselves now so, thankyou for the encouragement and support. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:52, 30 May 2013 (GMT)

Thanks[edit]

Yeah, my phone's browser hates me. One minute nothing loads, the next minute it's clicking everything in sight. It's so sluggish right now I didn't even notice that one :\. Anyway, thanks for cleaning up after me! eshetalk 20:24, 24 May 2013 (GMT)

The minutes were ticking by and so was my eye when I saw it was a good edit :P. No worries, slip-ups happen, literally just a slip of the finger and BAM, you look the fool. It's happened with the patrol function and me too. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:32, 24 May 2013 (GMT)

Me editing the page: Skyrim Headsman[edit]

I just made an account now and I went to remove the Headsman axe image from it because it has no relevance to him, it's like having an image of the weapon every NPC uses on their NPC page. If his character description with boxes in the top left of his page turned into spam I must have accidentaly made a mistake when editing. All I ask is because the Headsman Axe picture is not relevant and saying how he is presumed killed at helgen is wrong because you can see fall over and die when Alduin lands on the tower then uses his dragon shout. — Unsigned comment by Tamriel&Sovngarde (talkcontribs) at 15:36 on 26 May 2013

I apologize for presuming ill intent, all I saw a mass of changes that removed content and destroyed the layout of the page with no explanation provided. The inclusion of the weapon image does not bring the quality of the page down, therefore its does need to be removed post-haste. His death is not known, you see him fall over, and then he's gone. There's no body to verify death at that point. You also removed the note on Ahtar, which I believe was placed due to some wrongful editing on Ahtar's page. And finally, we only add Yes to the essential and Respawn parameters, if they are not there they are presumed a No (all pages get a standard NPC summary template dump when they are created which is why they are there). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 15:50, 26 May 2013 (GMT)
The note about Ahtar is irrelevant because: 1. It should go on his NPC page if it is that important. 2. It only explains that there is another executioner. Since there were lots of casualties because Alduin attacked the town and there are high ranking people there the note should say: Since the Headsman died at Helgen Ahtar could have been appointed the new Imperial legion executioner. — Unsigned comment by Tamriel&Sovngarde (talkcontribs) at 16:15 on 26 May 2013‎
Just a note here, the executioner and priest both die, and the headsman's animation reaction to Alduin is IdleExecutionerAlduinReactionDeath. From the end of the quest:
; kill headsman
;Alias_Headsman.GetActorRef().Kill()
; kill priest
;Alias_Priest.GetActorRef().Kill()
Also, T&S, unless you can explicitly verify that an NPC dies either through a dead body, in-game dialogue, or code, you should assume that NPC to still be alive or of unknown status. Additionally, we must assume that there are multiple executioners in the game instead of Ahtar being a replacement because we don't actually know his station. The note about Ahtar is possibly relevant in case people try finding him by searching for a headsman. Vely►t►e 16:45, 26 May 2013 (GMT)
Wait, don't the ;s at the beginning of the line comment out that line? If so, they don't die at all, they just were intended to (which was subsequently changed). I agree with the rest of what Vely said, though. • JAT 17:02, 26 May 2013 (GMT)
I want to say no and I want to say yes. I've never been entirely sure of the ; function, but it looks like you should be right. Are help messages for lockpicking and blocking ever shown?
showhide script fragments
;Player has equipped something in his left hand
;CharGenBlock.ShowAsHelpMessage( "Left Attack/Block", 5, 30, 3 )
Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(Lockpick, 12)
;CharGenLockpick.ShowAsHelpMessage( "RotatePick", 5, 30, 3 )
Anyway, if that does comment it out, then he just disables himself at a certain quest stage, based on his personal script. Vely►t►e 17:38, 26 May 2013 (GMT)
So he disables himself? All the Helgen NPC's that are not seen after must do it. — Unsigned comment by Tamriel&Sovngarde (talkcontribs) at 17:48 on 26 May 2013‎

Miraak's Sword[edit]

Hi, just a quick note per this revert. The base damages you quoted for the dragonbone and daedric swords (19 and 16) are actually their listed weight. Both are lower (15 and 14), so Miraak's sword really does have the highest base damage of all swords.

Personally, I'm not a fan of how the weight is listed in the first column on these weapon tables - I'm working on a sandbox that does things a little different. I understand that's the order it appears in the game data, but its not intuitive. The game lists the stats in the order of damage > weight > value so that is how we should do it. --Jimeee (talk) 09:54, 14 June 2013 (GMT)

Well, thanks. Per the same type of note on Skyrim Chillrend, and the fact only the top version applies, I re-added it as a note. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:37, 14 June 2013 (GMT)

Poacher Edit[edit]

Hey Silencer. You reverted my revert of your edit on the SR:Poacher page. With respect, I didn't revert it based on an "interpretation of data". The cslist clearly shows Male in the gender cell for both poacher varients and I checked the ids before I reverted. I didn't interpret anything. Unless the cslist is wrong or the game can randomly misfire and produce radient npcs, the poacher cannot be female. I know you think you saw what you saw and it's not my intention to accuse you of lieing, but unless I am missing something your results cannot happen. --AN|L (talk) 21:23, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

You should take note of the box in the cslist by the name of "Is NPC". It is not ticked for either of the Poacher entries, meaning all data in the list is overwritten by whichever version bandit on the sublist it cares to spout out. In both cases the chances for a female are around 40%. Both Poacher entries are templates, and the tank one goes through another template before picking its final form. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:38, 18 June 2013 (GMT)
Ok, understood. Thanks for clearing that up. --AN|L (talk) 21:55, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

Knight Paladin Gelebor Voice[edit]

Does he have the same voice as Arch Curate Vyrthur or does he have a different voice compared to him? Dragon Guard (talk) 06:40, 18 June 2013 (GMT)

They are different. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 11:33, 18 June 2013 (GMT)
In what pitch/way exactly? Dexion Evicus's voice sounds like Proventus Avenicci's voice, but deeper. Does Arch Curate Vyrthur sound like Mercer Frey or not? Stephen Russel. Same voice actors for Mercer and Vyrthur. Dragon Guard (talk) 15:48, 18 June 2013 (GMT)
I have no idea, I'm not an expert in that field. All I know is that they have different voices, which doesn't mean they don't have the same voice actor, which I believe is what you are trying to ask. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 15:56, 18 June 2013 (GMT)
Arch Curate Vyrthur sounds like Mercer Frey (Just looked it up on YouTube)
Do you think Dexion Evicus has the same voice actor as Proventus Avenicci does? Dragon Guard (talk) 16:11, 18 June 2013 (GMT)
As I said I'm not an expert. No matter how similar two voices sound, unless you have actual proof that they are the same person it cannot be added to the wiki that they are the same. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:15, 18 June 2013 (GMT)

Skyrim Voice Actor page red links[edit]

There are red links on Stephen Russell's section for Braig and Malthyn. Can these be sorted out? Dragon Guard (talk) 16:56, 18 June 2013 (GMT)

They were spelled incorrectly. I've fixed them. eshetalk 17:07, 18 June 2013 (GMT)

Movarth's Boots[edit]

"That is how lore works." -The Silencer

Could you possibly be more condescending? 216.246.130.20 08:17, 23 June 2013 (GMT)

I assume you are talking about this edit. I do not see how the comment was condescending. The Silencer was simply explaining that it is typical, for Lore pages, to assume that the hero in question retrieves any notable item. This helps keep Lore pages consistent across the wiki. --Nocte|Chat|Look 08:54, 23 June 2013 (GMT)
Yes, only selecting bits out of context will always be a bad idea. The full reply was "the hero always recovers items of interest, that is how lore works". I explained how lore works what more do you want? Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:58, 23 June 2013 (GMT)

Anthony Skordi Messaged Me On Twitter[edit]

He messaged me saying he voiced Dark Elfs on a DLC for Skyrim. He wasn't very specific though. He is a busy actor. But I was still lucky to get an answer from him. No doubt the Dragonborn DLC. Dragon Guard (talk) 21:32, 24 June 2013 (GMT)

Which ones though, unless he means he provided the voices for all of them, which is unlikely. There are four voice types for Dragonborn Dark Elves. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:44, 24 June 2013 (GMT)

Tell me the voice types then. Dragon Guard (talk) 05:36, 25 June 2013 (GMT)

He said he voiced British Dark Elf's. Dragon Guard (talk) 05:44, 25 June 2013 (GMT)

Maybe I should ask him something about dialogue. Any suggestions, anyone? Dragon Guard (talk) 06:39, 25 June 2013 (GMT)
We are still waiting on an answer from Bethesda, which will hopefully contain a list of voice actors and exactly who they voiced, making it unnecessary to ask individual actors about their roles. You are free to ask him what you wish, of course, but it will hopefully not be necessary. You don't need to keep asking us about what you should do about it--we're just waiting patiently for Bethesda's response :) Vely►t►e 14:23, 25 June 2013 (GMT)

He said this to me: Check my IMDb page out. He also said he honestly couldn't tell me who he voiced. Maybe he can't remember. Dragon Guard (talk) 15:17, 25 June 2013 (GMT)

Undo My Edit On Rolff Stone-Fist's Page[edit]

Why did you undo it? They are in a conflict in the image. A conflict is a disagreement. Rolff Stone-Fist tells her: You refuse to help the Stormcloaks. Then Suvaris says: We haven't taken a side because it's not our fight. Suvaris is disagreeing with Rolff. Dragon Guard (talk) 05:54, 26 June 2013 (GMT)

I presume you're referring to this dialogue? You can see in the note there that the intent was for Rolff's comment to be "Angry, bullying". And Suvaris' response is supposed to be "Frightened". You're right, they're having a disagreement, but as always, our goal is to stay true to the subject matter, which is sometimes slightly different from remaining impartial. In this case, Rolff is supposed to be bullying Suvaris. That's the expressed intention of the developers (if those notes are from the game data, which I think they are). So the previous version seems preferable to me, as it's more accurately describing the interaction. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 07:52, 26 June 2013 (GMT)
Yes they are in conflict, but that is an extremely broad term that is more commonly used to describe a fight. We are informed of the type of conflict it is, which is made abundantly clear by the threat made at the end of the dialogue, so it is better to use that term as it is more accurate and better describes the interaction. Plus a wiki does not need to stay impartial at all times. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:44, 26 June 2013 (GMT)

Ralis Sedarys Unearthed Dialogue[edit]

I plan to add all his quest dialogue to his page. Is there a template I can put on the page to tell people I am working on it? Dragon Guard (talk) 22:09, 27 June 2013 (GMT)

If you are doing it in one edit there's no need, if you intend working on it in a sandbox then the {{Wip}} or {{Wipsandbox}} templates can be used. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:18, 27 June 2013 (GMT)

No more lists for Paralysis effect in Skyrim[edit]

There is no more DLC for the game. Which means that the list will not be endless. Besides that is what the wiki is for, isn't it? Dragon Guard (talk) 17:12, 30 June 2013 (GMT)

There will always be another addition to make to the list, a wiki does not need to trawl through all possibilities to figure out every possible affect on every possible target. A short note that encompasses all possibilities is sufficient. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:14, 30 June 2013 (GMT)
