Shape Magic, also known as shapeshifting....

[1]

Argonian and Hist[edit]

Hist can alter Argonian shapes. Argonian Behemoths, also known as Xal-Krona[2] are powerful hulking Argonians, specially created by the Hist.[3] Consumption of specific tree sap can cause Argonians to transform into the Behemoths.[4]

When Mehrunes Dagon attempted to invade Tamriel during the Oblivion Crisis in 3E 433, the Hist trees foresaw his coming and called many Argonians back to defend their homeland.[5] The Argonians were altered by the Hist in order to combat the Daedra, becoming faster, stronger, and able to endure harsher punishment.[6]:59 When the Oblivion Gates were opened in Black Marsh, the Lizard Folk charged into them so viciously that the Daedra themselves were forced to close them in order to avoid being overrun.[7]:19

A ritual that allows Argonians to permanently turn into crocodiles was known by an Argonian known as Murk-Watcher. According to her it was an incantation, or "the crocodile song". Although she was never taught it, she knew it her whole life. In order for ritual to be successful, one song must end for another to begin. The ritual involves singing of nature's cycles and consumption of a crocodile's heart. According to Murk-Watcher every new life has its song, taken from an old one that is no more. Properly embodying the life of a creature often requires its death. She knew the melody of the song of the crocodile and described is as loud and powerful. Upon the transformation one forgets their previous life, but they can keep their focus for a short while after becoming the crocodile.[8][9]

Ayleid[edit]

According to the historical fiction novel 2920, The Last Year of the First Era an Ayleid man observed Turala's journey as she was crossing the Kavas Rim Pass during advanced pregnancy under the guise of a bird. He returned to his humanoid shape to assist her during childbirth.[10]

Yrsild transforming into an owl (ESO)

Clever Magic of the ancient Nords allowed them to change their shape into shapes of varous animals. One of such practitiners was a priestess of Kyne Yrsild, who favored the shape of owl, for their beauty in flight, despite their association with Jhunal. Despite the fact that most members of the order would disagree with her beliefs, she expressed to feel a sense of communion with Kyne whenever she took flight, likening it to a dance with the godess. She beleived that whether her shape was one of an owl or a hawk, her devotion to Kyne is unchanging.[11][12]
