The Old Dren Planation, where the player and their Imperial Legion partner will track down a lead and solve a years-long cold case

Quick Walkthrough

1. Speak to Ereven Baryl in Narsis, at Heron Hall, about Orders. He will tell you about new evidence in the case of Prulius Sudatian.
2. Speak with Trooper Viran, downstairs in Heron Hall's contraband storage in the basement.
3. Viran will tell you that a package has been dropped off in Heron Hall's courtyard with Prulius Sudatian's name on it.
4. Acquire the package from outside in the courtyard and bring it back to Trooper Viran.
5. Review the evidence with Viran.
6. Head to the Old Dren Plantation southeast of Heron Hall.
7. Locate the body of Prulius Sudatian outside the walls of the plantation, west of the plantation, very close to the plantation wall.
8. Speak to Viran again.
9. Go back to Commander Baryl and ask for permission to search the Manor of the Old Dren Plantation.
10. Go back to the Old Dren plantation, into the Manor, and speak to Lady Releniah (Releniah Dren).
11. Confront Guls Hloran in the basement of the Old Dren Plantation Manor.
12. Beat Huls Hloran into submission, then speak to Trooper Viran.
13. Go back to Heron Hall and turn in the quest at Ereven Baryl for an 800 gold reward.

Detailed Walkthrough

Speak with Ereven Baryl at Heron Hall in Narsis about Orders. He'll tell you that there's been a break in an old case revolving around a man named Prulius Sudatian, a cold case in fact, since the investigation went nowhere. He mentions that Trooper Viran wants to speak with you in the contraband storage in the basement.

Heading down into contraband storage to speak with Viran, she tells you there's a package out in the Heron Hall courtyard with Prulius's name on it, which is weird because that case has been cold for a few years now. Go outside and retrieve the package. It's a small, white, string-bound package on the inside of the archway in the Heron Hall courtyard. Bring it back to Viran.

Open your inventory and use the package on your character in your inventory to "open" it. You will receive a ring, a shirt, and a journal. Namely, a Dirty Ring, a Bloodstained Exquisite Shirt, and Prulius Sudatian's Journal. Speak to Viran after you've opened it.

On selecting the bloodstained shirt option, she'll say:

I'm certain this is one of Sera Sudatian's shirts. There was a tailor he favored in the city who could confirm that. And you see how these two slits in the fabric line up, front and back? He was run through with a long blade. By someone skilled in its use, if the position of the strike is anything to go by. Right through the heart. You know what this means, <Imperial Legion Rank>? It all but proves that Prulius Sudatian was murdered. Did you find anything else?

On handing her the ring, she'll state:

Was this Sudatian's? The style isn't Dunmer. I'd guess it's either Breton or Nord, but I would have to to check with a jeweler. Do you see the red dirt in and around the seams and features on the ring? The wearer of this ring had their hands, at least, in the dirt, and Prulius Sudatian wasn't known to be much of a gardener. If this belonged to him... nevermind. Was there anything else in the package?

On handing her the journal:

Prulius Sudatian was a fastidious note-taker, and in my last investigation I collected and read his journals. That's what I was looking for down here. I thought back then there was one missing, because the last of them was dated months before his disappearance. We've finally found it. Wait, what does this entry say? %PCName, the 12th of Midyear was the last day Sudatian was seen alive. It seems he was planning to visit the Dren Plantation. Does this mean Orvas would be there? Is there anything else?

All of this evidence points to one place, and that's the Old Dren Plantation southeast of Heron Hall, and Viran says as much:

Prulius Sudatian was murdered. He was run through with a sword, and then his clothes were removed. They began to bury him, but realised that this potentially identifying ring was left on his finger -- that's when the dirt was worked in, and when they removed it. He must have had the journal with him, as well, which means that the scene of his murder, and potentially the location of his body, is the Old Dren Plantation southeast of Narsis. Meet me there.

Leave Heron Hall through the southern doors and hop over the river to the path next to the river, head left and follow the path straight to the Old Dren Plantation and speak to Viran again, in front of the plantation about Prulius Sudatian. She'll state his body has to be somewhere around the plantation, and she hands you a shovel. She also mentions that he had a gold tooth, that's how we'll know it's him.

Head to the west side of the plantation, and in-between 3 rocks on a small hill right next to the plantation, with some Spiny Lloramor plants is what looks like some disturbed dirt. When you go up to it and look at it, it will be labeled Pile of Dirt. Interact with it and you'll "dig" up Prulius Sudatian's long-dead body, revealing only his bones. Interact with the skeleton to find out that the skeleton has one tooth missing.

Go back to Ernasi Viran in front of the plantation, and she'll be surprised that the gold tooth wasn't there. She believes the Camonna Tong removed the tooth, obviously to sell. However, she wants to search the Old Dren Plantation and tear it apart looking for the tooth. But you both have to abide by the law somewhat, so she send you back to Commander Baryl for permission to search the Old Dren Plantation for the murderer and make an arrest.

Head on back to Heron Hall and ask for permission from the Commander. He will tell you that it is expressly forbidden to imply that the Lady Releniah is not to be implicated or accused in this murder, nor any of her sons are to be accused as well. But you have permission to arrest the murderer if you find them on the Old Dren Plantation.

Head back to Trooper Viran outside of the plantation and you'll both head inside. Head upstairs and speak to Releniah Dren about Prulius Sudatian. She'll mention that while murder on the plantation is unacceptable, she admits that it may have happened. She says none of her servants would murder someone, but one of the Drens' retainers, Guls Hloran, didn't go with her son (where he rules over Vvardenfell now), and stayed on the plantation. She says he's in the basement.

Head down into the basement to find Guls Hloren, an old man, sitting alone in a room full of crates and Hackle-Lo Leaves. When you ask him about Prulius Sudatian, he says:

I haven't heard that name for years. You found his body? And his belongings? I hoped that evidence was forever buried, never to be uncovered... I won't miss a chance to bury it again, s'wit."

And he begins attacking you. Attack him until he submits, then speak to Viran, who will tell you to head back to the Commander, and that she'll escort him back to Heron Hall for imprisonment.

On speaking to the Commander, he'll mention that you reined in Trooper Viran from essentially murdering the Drens, so that's good. However she hasn't made her report to him yet, as she's probably drinking more Flin right now. He says that you did well but hopes you see that not everything is as straightforward as one would think, in Narsis. He awards you 800 gold, wrapping up the quest.

60		Ernasi Viran instructed me to return to Commander Baryl at Heron Hall to request a permission to make an arrest at the Old Dren Plantation.
65		Commander Baryl ordered me to arrest the person responsible for the murder of Prulius Sudatian, but warned me that I should not cause any trouble with the Dren family.
70		Ernasi Viran suggested we question Releniah Dren and her retainers inside the manor to find the Camonna Tong member responsible for the murder on Orvas Dren's behalf.
75		Releniah Dren suspects that one of her caretakers, Guls Hloran, might be responsible for executing Prulius Sudatian by the order of Orvas Dren.
