Syl in the tunnel[edit]

Moving this to the discussion page Note: After entering the Xirethard Depths, Syl has gone into the final tunnel, the guards have barricaded the door to the passage, and there doesn't appear to be any way to get past this.

Has anyone else experienced this?

There is a push-block on one of the bust pedestals that opens a passage through the wall.

Please expand on this quest if you have a more detail. — Unsigned comment by Gotapaper (talkcontribs) at 14:56 on 29 March 2007

Which tunnel are you referring to? There are two (I believe) push blocks within the tunnels. There is a series of tunnels with spells being spammed at you and you have to head right there. Then, in the room where you fight the Mazken, the door should be open. --Andyg 20:06, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Image request[edit]

We need a picture of Sheogorath sitting on his throne if possible. Any takers? --Andyg 22:45, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Nerveshatter[edit]

Nerveshatter is not a reward as such, it is just loot. Flongoid 22:50, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Syl dies of fear?[edit]

I began the Ritual of Dementia quest to retrieve Nerveshatter, but Syl was dead on her bed when I entered her room. I re-tried this by loading a save before you choose between the Dutchess of Dementia or the Duke of Mania to no avail.

I brought her back from the dead with a spell and killed her, which registered her death as a completed task, however I couldn't take her heart seemingly because she was now an Non-Player Character.

I've never screwed around with her (get yer mind out of the gutter), so I have no idea why this happened and it sucks because Nerveshatter is apparently the most powerful in the game, and I don't want some stupid robe from the Mania mission. I play on Xbox so I don't know if I can rectify this. — Unsigned comment by 203.49.210.175 (talk) 06:51, 3 June 2007

When you arrived, did you wait for a little while to see what would happen? If not, try waiting for half a minute when your find her body, and Kithlan will arrive to clarify the situation.
That you can have the quest count her as killed by first reanimating her and then killing the reanimated body is a known "bug". --Timenn 12:52, 3 June 2007 (EDT)
You can also just run along and open the hidden passage. I did it. No message, did resurrect and kill though. Just run and kill kill kill! Sjarko, the Thiefly Traveler 85.144.249.144 18:08, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Problems Finding Syl[edit]

(Question moved from Oblivion talk:Technical Support)

My friend is having trouble finding syl, she isnt there and we are thinking it is a glitch. I dont know if you guys help with this kind of stuff but if you do it will be much appreciated. This problem is on the 360 also just so you know.

If you have any answers please send me a message at: Samuraijohn5@yahoo.com

Thank you for your time. — Unsigned comment by 76.2.246.221 (talk) at 03:29 on 31 January 2008

I have also had a problem finding Syl; I get to the final chamber and she isn't there. According to my map she is about a hundred feet beyond the edge of the room, outside where I can reach. I reloaded a save and also tried to reset the cell by waiting for three days; no luck. Does anyone know of a way to fix this, or should I go to an even earlier save from before this mission? Oh, and I am also on the Xbox 360. --Mike | Contrib 04:10, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
Hmm, never mind. I figured it out; I completely failed to see a switch my first two run throughs. I guess I am too used to the map extending automatically that I assumed there was nothing left because nothing more was being displayed on it. --Mike | Contrib 04:22, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
this happened to me on 360 and i realized if u shoot the hunger statues above the room they shot down a spell, spent like an hour trying to find a order when their wasn't one ig lolSkylar1146 22:06, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Murdering the Dark Seducers[edit]

One thing I noticed when doing this quest is that when I killed a Dark Seducer who was unaware of my presence, it counted as murder and I got the Dark Brotherhood message. Anyone else get this? — Unsigned comment by Satan's Crowbar (talkcontribs) at 08:38 on 8 April 2008

I've not done this quest, but my guess would be that the Dark Seducers are not in an evil faction. If you kill anybody who isn't in an evil faction when they haven't initiated the combat, you get tagged with a murder count. --Gaebrial 06:11, 10 April 2008 (EDT)

Bounty Removed[edit]

(moved from the article)
  • Sometimes your bounty will be removed when you do this quest. It is not verified when this will take place.

This really isn't a helpful comment. If we included every odd one-off occurrence, each page would be about 100K long. Unless there's more information about which bounty is removed, when it happened, at what stage, where, etc, there's no evidence that it's anything other than a glitch. –RpehTCE 13:37, 31 December 2008 (EST)

Can't complete quest[edit]

I have put syl's heart to the altar, but its just explodes and there is no one to talk with! Im playing ps3, what the heck i should do? I have find out that Arctus should be in Sacellum Arden-Sul too? I cant see him, theres only Dervenin, Sheogorath and two guards. Anyone else having this? — Unsigned comment by 81.209.53.174 (talk) at 09:59 on 6 February 2009

i'm not having this but something happened to me which might make a difference. for me the whole thing glitched and a load of shivering isles npcs have gone out of the strange door to cyrodiil. arctus was one of them..check out there — Unsigned comment by Repeater (talkcontribs) at 18:37 on 1 April 2009

I chose to light the Flame of Dementia but Arctus wouldn't leave the Strange Door in Cyrodiil to perform the service, what should i do? — Unsigned comment by 83.67.63.215 (talk) at 15:15 on 13 June 2010

The Decoy Syl[edit]

Has anyone discovered a way to get rid of the decoy Syl body that's on her bed when you first arrive? There's no real reason to -- it doesn't get in your way or even stink up the place as a real body would -- but I find it kind of unpleasant to have to share my new living quarters with a corpse. (I tried using the cheat "resurrect" on her, but then she just stands around the place like a mannequin. Just as unpleasant, only upright.) Obviously, this is totally unimportant to the quest or anything else; just curious. Wordmama 03:49, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

I believe her body will disappear automatically after you haven't visited the cell for 72 hours. --Timenn < talk > 09:34, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Or you could use the console (on the pc), click on her body, and then type "disable." This will remove the unwanted corpse from your view. Another trickier alternative (without the console) would be to reanimate her with the Staff of Worms and lead her body somewhere less obtrusive to dump her. Although personally I like keeping her around. It compliments the morbid atmosphere nicely.--69.73.94.114 05:53, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Ah, that does the trick nicely, thank you. I wasn't aware of the power of "disable" -- a very handy little cheat, though it needs to be used with caution. Thanks! Wordmama 20:59, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Pet Hound Glitch[edit]

If you have the pet skinned hound with you when you enter Syl's private quarters the Dark Seducers will attack it. For some reason this causes Kithlan to never make his appearance after you attack the dead double. If you eventually leave the private area and go looking for Kithlan you will find him going about his normal business with no special dialog option related to that stage of the quest. Has anyone else experienced this problem with the hound?--69.73.94.114 06:06, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Disposition Is Maxed?[edit]

OK So I need the dispositions to be at roughly 70 or higher for Anya to aid me,and the other guy to give me the key. The problem is, both of their dispositions are at 59, and it says they are maxed. Any suggestions on how to get past this? I'm playing on the 360 btw. Thanks guys — Unsigned comment by 24.57.15.45 (talk) at 02:25 on 4 April 2010

Charm them; even a 100pts for 1 second is enough. --SerCenKing Talk 10:55, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Trapped?[edit]

So I never started the dementia part of the main quest, and now that I have completed the game, just out of random exploration I found the dungeon for the quest, but now it appears I'm trapped in the private gardens. The house of dementia requires a key, which I don't have since I never even started the dementia part of the quest, I only did mania, and the statue of sheogorath does nothing when I try to activate it, probably because it only starts functioning once you take syl's heart. The only other place accessible is the duchess's quarters, and there is still no exit apparently. Any way to get out? I tried making some damage health potions with sheogoraths protection to revive myself, but it wasn't enough to kill my character and make her respawn, and I had to fortify my magicka to even do it because my magicka is at 96 whereas the spell requires 100. I do have almost all the spells in the game so I could possibly use a fortify from there. But I'm stumped, I know I can get out with sheogorath's protection but the problem is just getting my character to die... Wolfeh 03:44, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Figured it out, I summoned a dark seducer, took all my armor off (except my helm that fortified magicka), and let her get my health down until her time was up, then summoned a golden saint and let it go down a little bit more then casted the sheogorath's protection and was able to respawn and get out. However, I would probably say this is a bug, because if someone hadn't completed the whole main quest but did complete the ritual part and basically did what I did, they probably wouldn't be able to get out since they don't have the sheogorath's protection. Wolfeh 04:11, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

bugs[edit]

the bugs section says if you kill syl before her 2 bodyguards you get a bounty for murder, i hit her with ruins edge with a sneak and she died instantly and then i killed the guards, when i went outside no one tried to arrest me, i even talked to a guard i dont have any mods or anything and im playing on 360 Hellsing=teh epikness, D-Gray Man=Teh epikness 20:19, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Will the private gardens and house of dementia guards respawn?[edit]

I'm playing on the 360 version btw.

So I've finished the ritual of Dementia and am now the Duke but I'm not really enjoying the perks of having three corpses in my new bedroom (the Syl copy and two DS guards.) and no guards patrolling my private garden and a missing guard that used to guard the Dementia throne room.

I know this isn't important but it kinda sucks if I have no replacement guards in my palace due to having my hand forced to killing the previous ones in a quest. — Unsigned comment by 121.98.177.77 (talk) at 01:36 on 23 February 2011

What now?[edit]

I started the Ritual of Dementia mission, and got to the part where I first got into Xirethard via Syl's Private Gardens. I decided to improve my character so the Dark Seducers wouldn't kill me, and I stumbled onto Xirethard from the wild. I went through and killed Syl (the real one, of course). Her dead body does not contain the heart. What now? 67.77.75.39 23:34, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Chris

Though I'm not sure, my guess is she doesn't have the heart on her because you didn't go through the quest stages. So try going through the dungeon as you are supposed to, and you might get the quests updates. I don't know if that will work though. ~ Dwarfmp 01:23, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

fatal bug[edit]

I just discovered a fatal bug regarding the ritual of mania quest. Apparently, if you go through the dungeon and kill syl before discovering her double in her quarters, her heart will not appear on her body, making it impossible to complete the quest and as a result, unable to complete the main qest line — Unsigned comment by 67.142.173.22 (talk) at 20:17 on 27 October 2011

a rock and a hard place[edit]

So I never started the dementia part of the main quest, just out of random exploration I found the dungeon for the quest, but now it appears I'm trapped in the private gardens. Ive searched the web and come up with nothing, i was holding off finishing the main quest line to do some exploration and side quests, i dont have sheogoraths protection, and starting over really isent an option when ive got over 30 hours logged on my new character already. Please help! — Unsigned comment by 162.157.199.249 (talk) at 00:23 on 9 March 2014‎ (GMT)

Without Sheogorath's Protection or console commands, there's no way out. —Legoless (talk) 00:42, 9 March 2014 (GMT)

Freeze bug conformation[edit]

I put Syl's heart on the alter and the game did in fact "freeze" as shown in the bugs section when Thadon tries to enter. I do not know how to edit wiki's, so if someone who has knowledge, please confirm/edit this for me. — Unsigned comment by Katsuro (talkcontribs) at 18:51 on 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Image Request[edit]

Can we get a picture slash visual of the supposed direction: "search for a switch on a pillar to the left of the north wall (if from the entrance, look directly left). This will reveal a secret passageway," we literally have a picture of Syl attacking the player-character, but we don't have a picture of the quintessential switch to continue the quest? I consulted with a the official Prima GOTY Guide, and it states the following (mostly unhelpful) information: At the bottom of the stairs, you find two Seducer archers holed up behind a barricade and the apparent exit to the east hopelessly blocked. Ah, fell for it, did you? The actual exit is a seret door in the northern niche. The trigger is a hard-to-spot button on the side of the pedastle just left of the niche. ALSO without a picture!!

Does not anyone here have the common sense to just include a dang picture?! Come on. This is maddening... — Unsigned comment by Blitzburns4 (talkcontribs) at 04:03 on 21 April 2021 (UTC)

There are maps on the place page if that's of any help to you. Activators are marked as cyan dots. —Legoless (talk) 19:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
