Level?[edit]

What's up with the level column? I added '10' for Palomino originally, but as far as I know all horses start on level 1. —Legoless (talk) 00:47, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

I believe that was the character level required to buy them in-game. May not apply any more though. --Enodoc (talk) 18:25, 24 January 2015 (GMT)
It's been changed to 3 for the Palomino I think. I think the 'Notes' section covers that oddity pretty well without having a separate column. —Legoless (talk) 19:36, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

Name Changes[edit]

As of Orsinium, 'Senche-Leopard' has been changed to 'Senche-Leopard Mount' to match the new (inconsistent) naming conventions. There are likely others, but I don't know how to check. —Legoless (talk) 01:13, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Split into sections?[edit]

It seems that there are basically 4 models for most of the mounts - Horse, Guar, Cat, and Bear, and then just two one-offs, the Camel and Wolf. Would this page look better if we broke it into sections for each type? (Leaving the one-offs in an "Other" category at the bottom maybe, until there's more than one Camel or Wolf texture to choose from...) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:21, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Could do, although the wolves and camels have three (unreleased) skins just like the bears, so I don't see the need for an Other section. —Legoless (talk) 20:34, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Images[edit]

Some images suffer from low quality. Could someone update them with better versions with good visibility and quality? Phoenix Neko (talk) 16:36, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

If there are specific images you feel need improvement, you can mark them with the CleanImage template, along with the reason(s) you think they are sub-par. You can of course upload your own images as well if you have something better. See Help:Images for advice on that front. Otherwise, it's doubtful that anyone will make this a priority. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 18:35, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Upgraded/Nonupgraded Images?[edit]

Many mounts look significantly different when fully upgraded if the rider has upgrade cosmetics enabled. Would it be prudent to include one image of each type for each mount, perhaps on either side of the page similar to the ON:Costumes page format? — Unsigned comment by Antimoany (talkcontribs) at 17:53 on 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Sure, I don't see why not! —Legoless (talk) 19:23, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Removed Silt Striders[edit]

I've removed the section on Silt Strider mounts for now. It's one thing including pre-release info for seemingly-completed mounts which have yet to appear in-game, but "Silt Strider A" and "Silt Strider B" are not real mount names and don't really warrant inclusion here in my opinion. If anything, perhaps a small note would be appropriate, stating that Silt Hopper mounts have been datamined but have yet to appear. —Legoless (talk) 14:36, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Creating individual articles for each Mount[edit]

Around September 7th, 2019 the categories for Mounts were reorganized into the following (this was part of my original suggestion, but thankfully Legoless has now solved this part of the changes):

  • Equines
  • Felines
  • Arthropods
  • Bipedals
  • Camelids
  • Canines
  • Constructs
  • Heavyweights
  • Toys
  • Ursines

I'm only including the above for documentation purposes and completion, the other part of my suggestion is to propose creating articles for each mount that can be obtained in-game. It's no secret the wiki has a long-standing problem of putting everything on list pages, and much of the reason that hasn't changed is cuz of the effort it would take to fix. I believe the Mounts were only all on one page at first because there were a mere 5 at launch; now we're in the hundreds, and this current system is no longer sustainable. I've come up with the following points for why splitting individually would be a great idea:

  • Can be easily transcluded onto the alphabetical and animal lists for mounts
  • Could have an infobox with prices (Crowns, Gold), release date, method of where to be obtained from, etc.
  • Allows for easier use of multiple images for different upgrades the previews show (Mounts have 5 possible appearances: Default, speed, inventory space, stamina, fully upgraded; we usually only show 1 or 2 of these at most) as well as other pics of what mounts can do (take Cursebound Senche-raht Darkfang's summoning sigil/animation for example)
  • Makes it easier to see and keep track of history of what edits are made to each mount's page
  • Would make it quicker to find with google searches, increasing traffic, and making it overall much easier to find
  • Sorts out the issue of some mounts having redirects while others don't, by having all mounts have a page regardless
  • Could potentially make it easier to list the history of release periods
  • Various mount-specific bugs could be listed properly (ie. Duo-Dynamo), unlike with the current system

I'm sure there are even more benefits to be had from this that I've yet to thin of. While Pets may be barely holding on in its current list format, Mounts and their many varying appearances can no longer use the current system, so they should be split before they get even more complicated. Sounds good to me, I think individual pages are a clean way of reorganizing. Other sites like ESO Fashion already do this. —Legoless (talk) 20:51, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. I'd help with that. -MolagBallet (talk) 23:50, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Definitely yes. The first of many similar changes I hope! Easily done by bot as well. --Enodoc (talk) 09:32, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
The format was pretty bad before, this idea will make it more pleasant to navigate it.Zebendal (talk) 02:35, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

() Now that a lot of people are on board, I think we should start brainstorming ideas of what parameters to have on the infobox, since there currently isn't any. I think it should be called "Online Collectible Summary" (collectible instead of mount in case we ever want to do the same with other collectible pages) and it would be similar to how Template:Online Place Summary looks when used for a player house, which has icons and varying colors. Parameters I can think of so far are:

  • Type: (Camelid, Heavyweight, Ursine, etc.)
  • Default Name
  • Method of Acquisition (Crown store, stable, promotion, antiquities, etc.)
  • Price (Crowns, Gold, Crown Gems, maybe $usd if included in a paid bundle)
  • First release date (subsequent release periods could be handled by way of see below)

Please suggest more ideas for parameters if you have any. Outside of the infobox I think we could also use a 'Crown store occurrences" section similar to this as an easier way of listing off release date history. We could also have a list of times it was featured in a Crown store showcase (optionally). We could also use a Navbox to all mounts on each page, perhaps. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 01:35, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

I'd be fine with creating individual articles as well. --Oriwa Talk 01:29, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Online Collectible Summary seems like a good candidate for a name. -MolagBallet (talk) 07:09, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Template:Online Collectible Summary already existed, but was largely unused, so I've repurposed it into an infobox (could probably be cleaned up a bit). This is an example of the template in use. --Oriwa Talk 02:46, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Just to document an update on what developments we've made
  • Hidden Notes/Bugs sections will be added to each mount page (ie see content of Banded Guar Charger)
  • animations that mounts have will be detailed on their general mount type pages
  • images from the furnishing previews will be added to the mount galleries (provided we have them)
  • The main picture (default, no 02.jpg etc) will be that of a rider on an unupgraded version of a mount because these do not require owning mounts and are how most people will look at them in-game anyways. Pictures of mounts without riders on them (seen only by placing mounts as furnishings) are also highly encouraged to be added, but will no longer be prioritized, instead existing as an alternate photo in the galleries
  • Category for mounts lacking images will be automatically added. For Apex categories, we will have radiant apex for all radiant apex mounts and crate specific apex categories (ie Category:Online-Mounts-Akaviri_Potentate_Crate-Apex) but no crate specific radiant apex categories since there'd only be 3 pages each (ie no Category:Online-Mount-Akaviri_Potentate_Crate-Radiant Apex), and Radiant Apex will be a subcategory of Apex

If there are any concerns or suggestions, feel free to add them. I believe we can begin a bot run to create mount pages shortly The Rim of the Sky (talk) 22:52, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

TOC Reorganization[edit]

Are there any objections to the idea of reorganizing the Mounts TOC in a manner similar to the one on Online:Non-Combat Pets? Not much we can do about horses other than organize them by model (old ESO model, newer draft horse model, slender model, fancy hairstyles a la White-Gold Courser, etc), but it could do our readers some good to separate the jackals from the wolves, and the senche-raht from the welwas and such. Multi-Riders would logically remain in their own section.

Granted, the organization of the mount page as it is now is far more logical than adhering to game categories was for the pet page, but if anyone has any thoughts or objections, my ears are open. Not going to commit to an overhaul sandbox when my objections to the status quo with mounts are admittedly less prominent than they were with the pet TOC. —MolagBallet (talk) 01:52, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

I think Mounts in ESO have the opposite case of Pets because their categories are a lot more organized and thought out in the game, while the current 5 pet categories in-game are very phoned in (and sometimes even wrong). I think it might be more trouble than its worth to further split up groupings like Equines, the Felines grouping is a whole headache since stuff like "Lion" and "Senche-Lion" are used interchangeably. I could see some benefit to splitting up Heavyweights since Senche-raht, Quasigriffs, and Welwa are all pretty different (only sharing the same skeleton), I guess its just a matter of how to do it.
