Chokeberry Potion Glitch

In Deepscorn Hollow, there is a plant called Chokeberry Vine in there with the effect of "Poison Fruit". I made it a potion and drank it. Hoping to get rid of the damage health effect, I slept in a bed for 24 hours. When I woke up, the effect sign was still in the top right corner, only with no time bar over it. The damage health effect was still there, and it didn't go away. — Unsigned comment by TheLastNinja (talkcontribs) on 16 May 2009

What's supposed to be a glitch? The Poison Fruit effect is permanent and it's supposed to kill you: as stated at Oblivion:Chokeberry, "Like Poisoned Apples, they will also kill you should you ingest them." It works just like the Deadly Poison effect for Poisoned Apples, where it explicitly states "If you accidentally consume a poisoned apple, you will still take damage at 10 points per second indefinitely, even after the supposed duration time runs out." Or, as stated at Oblivion:Useful Potions#Special Effects: "There is no cure, or any way to reverse the effect of the Poisoned Apple/Deadly Poison: no potion, spell, scroll, greater power or altars of any kind." The only thing that sounds strange about this is that you didn't die in your sleep. --NepheleTalk 14:52, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

Spell Crash

Well I got the spell Bound Gauntlets from a tome. Anyway I began practicing Conjuration. About a combat level and 9 levels down the track I cast it. I quick save it at a house and barter the guy and I walk outside. Autosave... Anyway As soon as the spell runs out The game crashes. I don't want to start again and the actual proper save would be at level 3. I am now level 12.

I cant unequip the bound gloves. I tried quick traveling. I tried loading quicksave before the shop No matter what if the spell runs out the game crashes I tried going to jail but doesn't seem to be a guard I can attack.. so I can go to jail. Is there a console command or something.

Permanent Bound Weapon "Glitch"

Using the permanent bound weapon glitch to create a weapon, and then summoning another bound weapon whilst the original is still equipped will crash the game. (Only confirmed on PS3 version, happened to me 100% of the time on several different saves.) I would have added this as a note on the page but seeing as it is a glitch caused by the exploitation of another glitch I'm fairly sure it doesn't apply to this article. Paintbrushes on PS3

I think it should be worth noting that the Paintbrush glitch does not work on the PS3. I tried it on the GotY Edition and the Paintbrushes simply fall through the ground. It works on Xbox360 and PC though. Anyone tried this on the non-GotY Edition on the PS3? Diadu 09:45, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

It works with a non-GotY disk. I've tested it on both disks.
Not true. I am playing the PS3 version of Oblivion and the paintbrushes still stay in the air.(Lord Tony 20:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC))
Maybe for you, but that doesnt mean it's not true!. The brushes fall to the ground for me as well, PS3 GOTY version.— Unsigned comment by 86.165.219.25 (talk) at 14:48 on 22 August 2009

game crashes when leave any city

help I have oblivion for my pc I was walking from the imperial city to bruma and my game crashed now every time I leave any city my game crashes can i fix that? ps if it has something to do with expansions I have shivering isles.

Robe of Protection bug?

I picked up the Robe of Protection from an enemy, and it is described as having 12% shield effect. When I put it on I get 12 armour - (12% of 0 = 0, yes?). I haven't really tested if I am actually getting 12 armour, or if it is just some display bug. OK, I just did a test, I have "Protect" as a spell = "Shield 5% for 30 seconds". When I cast that I get an extra 5 points in armour. I guess someone doesn't know what percentage means...

When they talk about protection given by shield spells and armour, it's in the form of a percentage of damage reduction. What it means is that the robe deducts 12% percent of the damage from melee weapons striking you. This can be added to the damage reduction provided by armour, but the max total reduction is 85%. It's just it isn't normally refered to as 85 percent, just 85 points of armour, but they are meant as the same. - User:Aces Andre 18:59, 26 May 2009 (EDT)

Permanent Enchantments using the Duplicated Items Glitch

Not sure if it even matters, but if you do the Duplicate Items perma-enchant method on an enchanted weapon, it crashes the game. Kinda makes sense, as what would having a permanent weapon enchantment on you do? But anyway, maybe a warning could be added, up to you guys to decide. 98.196.84.105 16:50, 3 June 2009 (EDT)

Feather taking away carrying capacity?

Hey I am having this weird problem the The Boots of Plain Striding. It says they give 85 feather on self but when ever I put them on it actually takes away from my carrying capacity! I usually have a 870 limit when I have nothing equipped, but then I put the boots on and my limit reduces to 815. I've tried loading and trying them out again but it always does that. Any one know what could be the problem?

I've had this happen to me before too. It may have something to do with your skill in Light Armor which may or may not allow light armor to weigh you down depending on if you're and Expert or higher in it. (Gadianzero 23:28, 3 June 2009 (EDT))
The boots are heavy armor and I have a 71 in that
Yeah i've seen the same thing. If i'm correct it has to do with how the feather spell seems to work. It seems to only activate when you are at your carry limit. IDK why but thats what i've seen. Do you have any other items with feather in your inventory that you equip? Lord Eydvar 17:07, 5 June 2009 (EDT)
I think it is because the boots are Heavy Armor. You don't reach Expert until 75 and the bonus for armor is that it won't weigh you down anymore. Try reaching Expert and check to see if that doesn't solve the problem. The fastest way is to wear a full set of heavy armor and going to a dungeon and letting yourself get beat up. You gain exp for armor when it takes damage. (Gadianzero 02:38, 6 June 2009 (EDT))

I have had a similar effect from multiple feather-enchanted items. When i have the amulet from the Shivering Isles (i forget the name but it gives a small feather effect along with other effects) and various other feather enchantments, the net gain is only about 15 points. I don't have an explanation for it, but it hasn't happened it a while.

See the Feather page for the reason for this. It's just the mechanics of how Feather works behind the scenes. It won't happen if you wait until you are over-encumbered to cast/apply Feather.--ACGrecor 02:58, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Number of Items required to spawn "Loot Bag"?

I'm just wondering how many items need to be dropped in a cell to cause the "Loot Bag" to spawn? I had it spawn in Morrowind GoTY and it really began to piss me off. So i'm just wondering so i don't make that mistake again. If it helps i'm currently worried about it for the Imperial City house. Also this is Oblivion GoTY for the 360. Lord Eydvar 16:05, 5 June 2009 (EDT)

I think it depends on the cell. I wouldn't worry though, I've only had it happen to me twice and that was after dropping a rediculous amount of items. The first was doing a copy glitch using arrows and the second was when I was moving my armor collection from one house to another and dumping everything in front of the house. The bag is halfway underground and barely noticable anyway. Just use a container instead of the floor and you will be fine. (Gadianzero 02:50, 6 June 2009 (EDT))
Does this work on ps3 because I've tried and just get serious lag.

Console fix for "Permanent Enchantment Glitch"

A proposed fix to be included with the entry for Permanent Enchantment Glitch:

Use the console command player.dispel MagicID to remove a stuck enchantment. See the page for the item in question for the appropriate MagicID

Imagine 06:35, 7 June 2009 (EDT)

The glitch in question already indicates that Console commands can be used to get rid of it, but it might be appropriate to put the specifics in. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 00:52, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Drain Skill Level Glitch

To anyone that has used this glitch - while bashing my buttons as fast as possible, to reduce the amount of time spent on the final levelling, I got a popup right before I engaged the trainer for the skill training. However, as I said, I was button bashing... so couldn't read it. I wasn't expecting it. Anyhow, that specific session, ALL training costs had dropped to -2500 (yes, minus). And when I was done and the Drain Skill had expired, the Major Skill ended up being a permanent low level (4). Has anyone happen this to them as well? Deleted the savegame, in hopes of being able to trigger it once again. If it does, it could prove to be another nice glitch for some additional levels. Once it happens, stop doing the Drain Skill <-> Trainer Routine and simply level the skill up naturally again, is what I'm thinking. --Kharay 12:41, 10 June 2009 (EDT)

<Missing Name> item

When pickpocketing Delphine Jend (who is in the Bravil Mages Guild), there is an item called "<Missing Name>." Once you have it in your inventory, it will appear in the "Miscellaneous" items section. You cannot do anything with it, but if you drop it, you'll see that it is a giant holographic yellow caution sign. You won't be able to pick it back up. — 71.107.133.24 02:23, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

You can see this is already covered at Delphine Jend's page. --Timenn < talk > 07:53, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

Frostcrag Spire Glitch talk

First of all, instead of having to delete the plug-in, why not just type in coc TestBrumaHouseMid and make your way from there, since the only way to obtain this glitch is to be on a PC in order to be able to delete the plug-in.

Furthermore, in order to use the glitch you must do a series of unusual and unexpected series of actions, which goes against what the article says qualifies as a glitch. (Who's going to delete the plug-in file and then reload the game while in the very cell that the plug-in was needed for before replacing the plug-in?)

Should this really be here? --Darkheart 14:19, 15 June 2009 (EDT)

It should. First, you do NOT have to be on the PC. From the 360 you can delete the plugin quite easily and reload the saved file. Consol Commmands are only available to PC users. And actions are not so random as you call them; they could be done by accident. Also, it is unexpected to land in a test cell for Bruma when in Frostcrag Spire.

This is why I believe it should be here. --Moosman547 14:22, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

Permanent Enchantments

I found out how to remove permanent enchantments. gotY edition ps3 (probably all) once dropped, equip anything else so that the enchanted item disapears from your character. now re-equip the item you did the perm-enchant with and unequip.

68.5.232.226 01:07, 16 June 2009 (EDT)

This glitch seems to be pointless, at least as far as I can tell. As mentioned, equipping another item in place of the perma-glitched one will remove any effects it once had. I tried the glitch using the Acrobat's Amulet and it worked, but upon equipping the Necklace of Swords, the enchantments from the Acrobat's Amulet vanished. Unless you just want a character with the magical enchantment effects, but with no clothes on, then I can't really see the benefit? (360 version 1.2) gavin19 20:07, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Items falling through floor

On many MANY occasions I've noticed items falling through the floor most often shields/weapons, occasionally items I've dropped myself. Only recently i have noticed that items which do fall through the floor, appear at a different location in the same Cell. most often halfway coming out of the floor, still able to be picked up but unable to be moved. I've tested it a few times and the items that went through the floor appear at doorways, sometimes even in the middle of a dungeon. However every time i have seen this glitch, they always have appeared somewhere else in the area i am in. — Unsigned comment by 114.78.173.85 (talk) on 17 June 2009

I suppose this glitch is partly covered by the Permeable Walls entry. It's known that items may occassionally fall through the floor, though from much experience I can say this is nothing usual. I suspect you may be dealing with some faulty cells, where the glitch is more present than average. --Timenn < talk > 06:38, 19 June 2009 (EDT)
This happens to me all the time, and it is most annoying. I don't like using console cheats, but I refuse to be cheated by a glitch. Too often some really good items are dropped by a defeated opponent only to "melt" into the floor. This also happens to recoverable arrows (you see where they land, but as you run to pick them up, you are only in time to watch them dissolve) and the corpses of some creatures (especially Wraiths). Unfortunately, for me they do not reappear elsewhere in the cell. They are just gone. If I was able to identify the items before they fell, I can "additem" them from the console; otherwise, I'm simply OOL. I don't suppose anyone's working on an unofficial patch for this? Phelaran 19:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

What?

Ive only tries it with one weapon, but when i tried to duplicate the staff you get from the mages guild, in this case I got the telekinesis staff, it fell thru the floor of the mystic imporium, and never reapered. I had to reload, which was annoying. Anyone else have this happen to them? — Unsigned comment by 98.117.36.19322 June 2009 (talkcontribs)

Things sometimes have a tendency to fall through the ground; however, I do not know if this is related to duping. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 18:10, 22 June 2009 (EDT)
Staves love to fall through the floor. It's not related to duplication, it's related to the type of item.--Darkheart 19:13, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Unable to buy spells

I couldn't find this anywhere, so i decided to ask about it. Anyway, I read the article about useful custom spells, and decided that i wanted to make some of these. Thus, i looked up what spells i needed to purchase to make this possible, and which NPC's were selling them. I have no problem when i buy spells from Raminus Polus (arcane university). However, when i talk to the spell traders in the skingrad mages guild, and when i talk to Ohtesse (the chapel in cheydinhal), the spell trade button isn't avaliable. This problem also applies to the training buttons for all guild-based trainers i've talked to. The bug, or whatever it is, started quite recently. I haven't had any problems with purchasing skills from those NPC's earlier.

So.. Is this anything anyone has encountered? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can do about it? — Unsigned comment by 78.69.109.203 (talk) on 27 June 2009

All NPCs that provide services have hours of business. Check on an NPC's page and you should find out when they trade - you probably approached them outside those times. –RpehTCE 15:22, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
I have also noticed when you buy all the spells they offer from some vendors, the spell purchase button goes away and never comes back, even during their "business hours." 68.97.176.224 23:59, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Graphical Glitch - Permanent Pseudo-Invisibility

A friend and I were experimenting with various spell effects and happened upon a very fun graphical glitch whereby your character becomes completely invisible (no shimmering outline like with chameleon).

Create a custom invisibility spell - touch, 10' AoE, any reasonable duration. Cast this AoE invisibility on your horse (the horse will vanish, but you won't). Mount the hourse (you and the horse will now be invisible). Dismount before the spell expires.

Your character will not become visible even after the spell expires on your mount. In fact, you will stay that way indefinately if you don't swap equipment.

This is where it gets really fun. If you unequip any item that was equipped when you were initially affected, that body part becomes visible while the rest of you does not. Re-equipping the item makes it visible as well. By this method you can make it appear that you are a disembodied head bouncing down the road or a pair of boots trotting along or whatever combination strikes your fancy.

Note: Using this glitch does not keep you really invisible. NPC's and monsters will see you, but it's a hoot to interact with citizens while you are headless!

This is on PS3 (GoY and Original editions, with SI installed)

Dueling Legion Foresters

Not sure where else this might go, not sure if it is a true glitch, but fun to watch sometimes. Up in the area between Applewatch and Bruma just south of Capstone cave you can come across 2 or 3 Legionares dueling with bow and arrows with each other. Seen this several times as I have run through there. They will even ignore the bandits in the area and vice versa. 68.97.176.224 00:04, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

One of them probably fired at a bandit but hit his comrade by accident, so they ended up fighting each other. Ongar the World-Weary 02:14, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

The reason they do this is not for any reason other than deer, yes thats right, deer. when one forester attacks a deer another forester will attack ant often times kill him though i dont know why. [comment added by sdharly]

I have seen this one myself. I was at a very low level and just stood back and watched as the pair slaughtered each other. When the one died, I raided him for everything of value (which is everything when you're at level 2). I really didn't know how to react. The surviving Legionnaire certainly didn't think anything of it.

I first saw this behavior in a Youtube video. It showed a large group of IC guards fighting amongst themselves, and periodically killing each other. The author claimed he hadn't cast frenzy on any of them, but I didn't believe it. Then last week, I exited the Bruma East Gate to see Edla Dark-Heart fighting one of the gate guards. Humilis Nonius was running about too, but I was so shocked I couldn't tell if he was in the fight or trying to get out of the way. The guard beat up Edla pretty bad, and she fled into the city. He followed, I followed, but inside Bruma they then passed me exiting the gate at walking pace, both stopped to give a chatty greeting before exiting. Outside again, everything was returned to normal. Later I noticed a brown bear corpse lying just down the road from the gate; I guess Edla and the guard both attacked and the guard caught one of Edla's arrows. I still have no idea what set off the IC guards in the video though. Phelaran 20:10, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I too have seen this -- several times. I've never seen it anywhere other than north of Bruma, though. I think it is a glitch and suspect it's due to a particular Forester having a very high aggression stat. It's commented on in the Imperial Legion Forester article, so even if it is a glitch, I'm not sure it rates additional mention.--ACGrecor 04:19, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Permanent Blocking Glitch

Not sure if it's widespread, a quick Google search brought nothing. When I quit the game (because of a crash) and reloaded my save, my shield was stuck in block, I couldn't get it out of this, so I started a new game (I hadn't gotten far). Unfortunately, now I can't seem to ready any weapon without it permanently blocking. This is a GARGANTUAN inconvenience, because the game thinks I'm attacking, so I can't equip any new weapons or shields.

Passing The Clavicus Vile Glitch

Note: This has been corrected by the Oblivion 1.1.511 patch.

There is a major glitch during Clavicus Vile's Daedric quest that causes the game to crash when you try to finish the quest.

I passed this, without the patch, by going straight to Umbra and getting the sword, then taking it to Clavicus Vile. I'm not sure if it will work, but it did on mine. — Unsigned comment by 116.93.135.224 (talk) at 10:25 on 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Weird Arrows

Since Entering the cabin on the Marie Elena while doing the "A Watery Grave" quest my arrows will always fly off at an angle and hit the nearest hostile npc. What the hell is happening? I am not complaining but it is kind of weird.

Colorless Gems

Some users may notice that Emeralds, Topaz and Pearl gems show no texture or color. However the reason for this has not been found yet.

This has been added a third time (which I removed), even after Timenn and myself removed it before. This note cannot go on the glitches page as it provides nothing substantial. Saying some doesn't help. Please provide more information before re-adding it. --Elliot(T-C) 13:53, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Well it would be nice to keep this up so others can revise and edit it for future references. In order to support the fact this glitch does occur to others and how to prevent it. — Unsigned comment by Lord Tony (talkcontribs) at 14:09 on 14 July 2009 (UTC)
No, it has to be up to par before it gets added. There is nothing substantial about the note, and until others can verify that this is true, it will remain off the page. Also, don't edit what I pulled from the article/my comment. Thanks. --Elliot(T-C) 14:09, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Unknown Bug During The Ultimate Heist

(moved to Oblivion talk:The Ultimate Heist#Unknown Bug)

White Noise Crash.

Once about every real week I experience a loud white noise screeching sound while I am fighting a human or creature. During which if I continue to attack the human or creature the noise will go away. If I fail to attack during the white noise my game will crash with in about five seconds. — Unsigned comment by Lord Tony (talkcontribs) at 16:48 on 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Runestone glitch

I attempted the Runestone glitch on the Steam install of Oblivion (latest version, with all official addons) and the Runestone failed to activate as "you already have one of these items." Can anyone else confirm that this glitch does not work with the most recent version with the addons? Torinir 16:12, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Traven's self-reference

Not sure if it's a glitch, or even if anybody cares, but I thought I'd share something I've seen. You know how people complain about Traven banning necromancy? I believe that's the one. Anyway, while speaking to Traven, I clicked Rumors, and he spoke a line where he referenced himself in the third-person (he said "Arch-Mage Traven", or possibly just "Traven"). It may have been the "Ever since Traven took over" line as well, I'm not sure. I've been trying to reproduce it so I can get a photo, but lately he's just been on about Imperial City. DarkReality 23:54, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't believe this would constitute as a glitch, just something that was overlooked by the developers at Bethesda. It happens to other NPCs too (beggers changing voices, etc.). --Elliot(T-C) 05:18, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

The Countess Valga of Choral has the same problem. It ends up sounding really funny when she talks about how wonderful Choral is, then says that "the Countess and her guards are to be praised." It could just be there to show how egotistical she is. It's still funny.

Golden Saint Warrior Greeting glitch

After a quick search of the glitches page, i havent found this glitch recorded so i decided to try and explain it. After beating the shivering isles, i quit oblivion for a long time. Thats the reason that i dont know why two identical male golden saint warriors were following me around bliss, but the were. When i loaded i quick traveled to the gate that goes out of the Shivering Isles and then walked out. The golden saint warriors didnt travel with me when i walked out the door. Then i quick traveled to Frostcrag Spire and the warriors appeared. When i tried talking to one, all he said was "I HAVE NO GREETING". I have done it again by loading the save i started with and repeating the travelling. When I'm in the shivering isles they do have dialouge but when i was out of it thats all that they said.— Unsigned comment by TheLastNinja (talkcontribs) at 21:02 on 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Glitches like this would be found under Shivering:Glitches. This is the "I HAVE NO GREETING" Glitch, which is caused by a separate dialogue for Shivering Isles residents. All dialogue in Shivering Isles is attached to quests to keep people in the Shivering Isles from talking about goings-on in Cyrodiil, and vice-versa. --Darkheart 20:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Racial Effect Removal

I think I found a glitch but i don't know what caused it, I'm playing right now as an Altmer mage but it seems that the 25% weakness to shock fire and frost has also disappeared and the plus 100 magicka bonus can anyone help me fix this problem. — Unsigned comment by 70.132.12.191 (talk) at 15:36 on 21 July 2009

Is there any chance you just did Molag Bal's quest and accidentally died when Melus struck you? Read this, if that's the case. You will lose all racial effect when dying accidentally. If not, I have no idea what caused it. Wolok gro-Barok 15:53, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Huge Animals

I think it is a glitch caused by mods, but I'm not sure. All the lower-level animals, specifically, wolves, mudcrabs, bears, and Imps, are ten times bigger than they're supposed to be. This has no effect on gameplay rather than making it hard to see past these stupid animals. I'll take a screenshot later. Any thoughts? --Darkheart 15:55, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, this definitely isn't normal... sounds like a good example of a mod conflict. --Elliot(T-C) 18:20, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Do you have shivering isles? If so did the game crash when you tricked the adventurers the first time with the big spider thing?

--Supergamer22 10:30, 19 September 2009

Actually, the problem was caused by, interestingly enough, missing mesh files for Opencities. I reuploaded the appropriate meshes and this stopped the glitch. Thanks anyway. --Darkheart 01:03, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Frostcraig Spire and the Drain Fatigue Glitch

I'm using a spell (for playing around) that drains fatigue 100 pts for 3 seconds on self. This causes my character to fall over and act like he is paralyzed. Anyways, whenever I open a door (into frostcraig spire more specifically) while in this paralyzed state, I load into a black abyss with a strange face in the distance. Does anyone know why and if there is any way to get back out of the glitch? No I cannot fast travel.

Rosethorn hall basement storage chest.

I sometimes get a weird problem In the Rosethorn Hall with my basement storage chest in the right corner in front of two barrels. I use it for storing only shields but apparently sometimes it doesn't show every item you put in it. For example I could put in 5 different shields but only 4 will show.

Frostcrag glitch: Fake info

It is fake that exiting and entering back the unlit silligum sanguis will give you sigil stone. The game will just give you more and more stone when you are in the silligum sanguis. It will stop as soon as you exit and restart when you enter again.

Dremora archers

When ever I am in the plains of Oblivion sometimes I encounter Dremora archers. The problem with them is they cannot shoot. Their right arm will move up and down but cannot grab the arrow. Thus it will keep doing this as long as it wants until it has been killed. Is this normal or does it only happen to PS3 users?
