Lore:Storm Atronach
Storm Atronachs (also called Thundernachs)[1] are Elemental Daedra native to Levinace. Seemingly made entirely of lightning and rocky debris, they can be found unbound in the wild or can be conjured by those with magical aptitude to serve as guards, laborers, or otherwise obey their conjurers. Summoning of storm Atronachs is usually performed through Koron's Peremptory Summons, a spell which usually summons storm Atronachs in their conventional forms but which can be altered by conjurers to alter the minutiae of the summons (such as plane to summon from, daedra to summon, and form in which the daedra can be conjured).[2] They are conventionally summoned and found in the form of bulky humanoids; however they do appear in other forms. Their summoning was first perfected by the Direnni, especially Corvus Direnni, who discovered that they could be bound into different forms by their conjurers.[3]
They are a source of Void Salts, an alchemical ingredient which has varied utility. Storm Atronachs are found in many Daedric Realms, including those of prominent princes and minor planes. While possessing some intelligence, storm Atronachs are largely an unorganized and chaotic group, with individuals being largely indistinguishable from one another.
Variants[edit]
Aside from the commonly found humanoid forms, there are many other types of storm atronach found in Nirn and Oblivion.
Storm Atronach Bear[edit]
Storm Atronach Bears are a form of Storm Atronach conjured in the shape of bears, possessing most of the conventional features and structures of bears but also being constructed of lightning and rock. According to legend, Ysgramor had one conjured for him to ride, and their summons were also known to be in circulation around the time of the Planemeld.[3]
Storm Atronach Camel[edit]
Storm Atronach Camels are a form of Storm Atronach conjured in the shape of camels, possessing most of the conventional features and structures of camels but also being constructed of lightning and rock. Like many Storm Atronach variants, they were first summoned by Corvus Direnni, and their summons were also known to be in circulation around the time the Planemeld.[3]
Storm Atronach Guar[edit]
Storm Atronach guars are a form of Storm Atronach conjured in the shape of guar, possessing most of the conventional features and structures of guar but also being constructed of lightning and rock. With apparently no known cases of their summoning prior to the Planemeld, their summons were first documented around that time.[3]
Storm Atronach Horse[edit]
Storm Atronach horses are a form of storm Atronach conjured in the shape of horses, possessing most of the conventional features and structures of horses but also being constructed of lightning and rock. With apparently no known cases of their summoning prior to the Planemeld, their summons were first documented around that time.[3]
Storm Atronach Senche[edit]
Storm Atronach senches are a form of Storm Atronach conjured in the shape of Senche-Tigers, possessing most of the conventional features and structures of Senches but also being constructed of lightning and rock. Like many Storm Atronach variants, they were first summoned by Corvus Direnni, and their summons were in circulation around the time of the Planemeld.[3]
Storm Atronach Wolf[edit]
Storm Atronach wolves are a form of Storm Atronach conjured in the shape of wolves, possessing most of the conventional features and structures of wolves but also being constructed of lightning and rock. They were apparently a favored mount of the infamous wizard Hjeimar the Heinous, and their summons saw a resurgence around the time of the Planemeld.[3]
Related Beings[edit]
Galvanic Storm Steed[edit]
Galvanic Storm Steeds are a fusion between a Storm Atronach's power, fused with a Gray Yokudan Charger horse, creating an incomparable mount. They have small bolts of lightning being emitted from their eyes and other areas, and wear tattered blue caparison.[3]
Thunderfist[edit]
Thunderfists are summoned by channeling the remnants of a powerful atronach. It appears as a very large Storm Atronach hand, rising underneath the target opponent that closes into a fist, striking them with lightning.[4]
Levinace[edit]
Levinace is a pocket realm of Oblivion. It is the home of the Storm Atronachs.
It might be assumed that Levinace is a 'collective realm' similar to Infernace, created as an extension of its Storm Atronach inhabitants. If so, the realm would be rather mundane and uniform in appearance.
Levinace is well known to all conjurers due to the ability to summon subservient atronachs from the realm. Summoned Storm Atronachs are usually compelled to take a roughly humanoid form, often for combat purposes. Sufficiently skilled conjurers can compel atronachs from this realm to assume any number of exotic forms, such as for use as summoned mounts. Corvus Direnni is famed as a pioneer in this field.

Notes[edit]
- The Storm Wolf is thought to be the result of an experiment by a powerful Destruction mage in which a wild canine was subjected to prolonged exposure to a Meip Glyph of Shock, and is therefore likely unrelated to storm atronachs.[5]
