The Boots of the Apostle (Morrowind)

The Boots of the Apostle are very mysterious. The wearer of the boots is rumored to be able to levitate, though sightings of them in use have been extremely rare.[1] The Greybeards supposedly gave Tiber Septim the boots after he had learned their secrets from them, as a reward for his "cunning craft and riddling". They are now considered relics of Tiber Septim and are legendary treasures of Cyrodiil.[2]

History[edit]

The last living dwarf, Yagrum Bagarn, at one point befriended the sorcerer Divayth Fyr.[3] At Fyr's behest, Yagrum Bagarn wrote a book that would later be known as Tamrielic Lore[4]:241 from the notes that he gathered over the centuries, listing the Boots of the Apostle among the artifacts of "unimaginable significance".[1] By the Interregnum, copies of this book circulated throughout Tamriel, providing some general information on the artifact to its readers.[5]

After learning from the Greybeards, Tiber Septim (known back then as Talos Stormcrown) is said to have descended from the mountain wearing the boots, while "riding the clouds, striding through the air". After his reign as the Emperor ended, the boots were lost for many years.[2]

The boots would later come into the possession of a Redguard hero, who perished with them in the Dunmer stronghold of Berandas. Circa 3E 427, the Nerevarine reportedly recovered the artifact from the hero's corpse on behalf of the Imperial Cult from the stronghold. They were guarded by a pair of Winged Twilights, who had also kidnapped a Breton healer named Ama Nin, who may have been the manifestation of the goddess Mara.[6][7][2] The boots were allowed to be kept by the Nerevarine to use them in service of the Nine Divines,[2] but they sold them to the Mournhold Museum of Artifacts later that year.[8]
