Greetings & salutations dear fellows, I am Kalarus. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a message. I don’t bite :)

Non-Standard Fonts[edit]

The fonts used on wiki talk pages are standardised so that it is clear and easy to read. While you are encouraged to develop a unique signature within which you can use almost any manner of font or style, those should not be applied to the rest of the post. You also have your user page, on which you can show off your coding skills, or do what others like me do and rip off other users coding. I don’t perceive the issue. I’m not using them on the Main namespace, just on talk pages where you regularly conversate anyway. Is there some kind of official rule banning fonts?

Not that I know of considering I've never seen anyone try to use them for whole posts, only signatures which do have certain rules on fonts and other applicable coding. Considering that signatures have rules regarding readability and interference with the overall page, it would be ludicrous to assume that even stricter rules apply to posts are not in place. The whole idea of a talk page post would be defeated by allowing multiple fonts and schemes to make a page unreadable, and therefore no-one would read or care what you were talking about as they simply couldn't follow it. Well, is there some authority I can go to, to ask about it then? I mean, that font wasn’t illegible, it wasn’t chicken scratch or anything; it was just different. I’m conflicted, because what you say makes sense, yet still there isn’t an actual ban on the practice, you aren’t an admin, & I feel that it’s a non-issue. What’s the harm in a minute change to font when there’s practically no legibility lost?

If you mean where to look, that would be wikipedia's administration section as rules are found there if we haven't written an alternative here. It would be a complete ban on fonts. If you use one that is legible, and another person uses one that is legible but different, and so on, you will very quickly get a page that is unreadable. Me not being an admin has nothing to do with it, standard practice and rules can be enforced by any user, even anonymous users. You may not see the harm but that is because you are not thinking long-term and about other users. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 23:21, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
Sounds like a slippery slope fallacy if ever I’ve heard one. Thanks for the administration directions, much appreciated; I’ll look through them before adding anything else.

Welcome![edit]

Hello Kalarus! Welcome to UESPWiki! It's always good to have new members.

You seem to already be in dialogue with other Wiki members, so you might have been guided to some of the following useful links before, but there might be more you may want to take a look at here:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games on the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:59, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks :)
