Purpose of this Template[edit]

I dont understand, Is this a template sandbox basically, or is it to show sandbox pages? Mikeyboy52 07:20, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

It's a sandbox for templates. People can test out new templates here. rpeh •TCE 07:22, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Great, is there any template help pages on this wiki? I think i've seen one before... looking again. Mikeyboy52 07:26, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Try Help:Templates. rpeh •TCE 09:20, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

random page[edit]

when i go to random page i always get to the page http://uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Aedra_and_Daedra — Unsigned comment by 193.111.47.174 (talk) on 22 August 2011

It's a caching issue. Create an account and it'll work. rpeh •TCE 08:42, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Unused Template[edit]

Can this be marked as a false positive in the unused template list? Odds are it rarely, if ever, be used for a long period of time since most people doing long-term template editing do it in their own sandbox. ~ Ad intellige (talk) 16:53, 11 January 2015 (GMT)

Are you asking if it's possible or if this template qualifies? The answer to the second question is easy: yes. :) For the first question, I suppose it could be done, if a bit awkwardly, by transcluding all sandbox or substitute-only templates onto a page setup for that task. That would remove them from the unused template list entirely. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:59, 12 January 2015 (GMT)
I was assuming it would qualify, but as far as I know only you can do the strike out thingy on those pages. I suppose that would work, but kinda seems like a waste of a page (Even though a page like that doesn't make any kind of difference), plus then we would have to make sure it doesn't appear in the orphaned/dead-end pages list :P ~ Ad intellige (talk) 02:18, 12 January 2015 (GMT)
The "strike out thingy" (I love it! That's going to be its official name from now on.) only applies to revisions and log entries. I can't do anything about auto-generated pages. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:36, 12 January 2015 (GMT)
Out of curiosity, I just looked through the code for the Unused Template page, and there is absolutely no easy way to modify the output for almost any special page short of re-writing it. It apparently hasn't occurred to the MW developers yet that people might want to do that. While modifying Unused Templates would be relatively simple, if we actually want to do something like this, a wiki-side solution is probably the best bet. Robin Hood  (talk) 03:29, 12 January 2015 (GMT)
Some of the pages say "Crossed out entries have been solved." (Well, maybe only one) or "Any such false positives will be struck out." like on Wanted Files. How would that happen, since once its solved its removed from the list? There should really be a way for editors of a given group to be able to strike out false positives :/ (Get to work on it Robin :P ) ~ Ad intellige (talk) 21:16, 12 January 2015 (GMT)
Those are just its way of indicating where a redirect exists, but the actual file is elsewhere. Something like you suggest could certainly be done. I'd probably do it by creating a category that would be ignored or crossed out. The drawback to creating an extension to do this is that the code would need to be updated as MediaWiki is updated...and MW developers seem to have the rather irritating attitude of "It's been a whole two versions since we deprecated it! Why are you complaining that we've removed/altered it now? You've had two versions to adjust!" We've already seen this come into play with several of our custom extensions. I really don't disagree with you, though, that there should be some universal method of marking false positives for a lot of these lists. Robin Hood  (talk) 00:00, 13 January 2015 (GMT)

() Hmmm... I would offer to help with the extension, but my PHP is more than a little rusty. Is it possible for administrators to hide pages from public view, but still make it so they count for Special Pages? If so, then making two of those pages, linking them to each other and putting stuff on them would work. I suppose doing your original idea of just making the pages normally would work, but that just seems... annoying because of how hard they will be to find and the Random page button would still take you to them :P ~ Ad intellige (talk) 00:59, 13 January 2015 (GMT)

Nope, we can't do that. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:43, 13 January 2015 (GMT)
