Backlink character[edit]

Would it be possible to change the Note and intnote templates to allow for a non-superscripted asterisk character? Maybe the two could be set up so that if the default backlink character was selected, then it would disable the superscripting. Right now, if you use an asterisk, the superscripting kicks in and you get a miniscule asterisk, so the site only uses daggers in all the notes everywhere, or letters if there are 3 or more notes on a page. --Morrolan (talk) 14:33, 26 September 2013 (GMT)

It could be done, but I'd hesitate to do it by default, since there may well be cases where the default is used in one note, and a * is used in the next, which would create confusion. I could add a nosup=1 style of parameter, but I feel like that's over-complicating the template. If others are in favour of it, though, yes, it can certainly be done.
There's an additional problem with using an asterisk: you can't just use *, you'd have to use <nowiki>*</nowiki>, otherwise you get a bullet if it's at the start of the line. You can see an example of a nowiki'd asterisk on Dragonborn:Powers, for instance. Robin Hood  (talk) 21:05, 27 September 2013 (GMT)
Yeah, I know about the nowiki requirement. I made this proposal because of this edit. You can also just use <nowiki>*</nowiki> as well of course, as I had done there. --Morrolan (talk) 02:31, 28 September 2013 (GMT)
It's an unnecessary hassle to change the template when the 'issue' can easily be avoided by using different characters (numerous options to choose from). There's really no need for it. Also, the example RH provided was exactly the same as what you did, but more efficient, since the {{intnote}} part didn't use the unneeded <nowiki> tags (only needed for the {{note}} part).— ABCface 02:40, 28 September 2013 (GMT)
(edit conflict) I don't think it's necessary to change the two templates to allow for non-superscripted asterisks. We can simply don't use asterisks, like what I did here, or, don't use these templates when using the asterisks, like here, here, and here (these are just examples; I've seen plenty of other pages using asterisks without the templates). ~ Psylocke 02:43, 28 September 2013 (GMT)
