Possible Bug[edit]

Inside Windhelm directly on the main gate there is lying Captain Lonely-Gale dead on the ground and I really know that I'm not guilty in this case. I found him a long time after I killed the butcher. Now, about two months later when I found the Captain, I'm doing all the quest in Windhelm. During my quests I move a lot through the main gate of course, partly per fast travel and sometimes through the gate. I just came from outside and realized that Arivanya lies there too, she is the one I saved from the butcher a while ago. Anyway, the Captain is there since three months lying and now Arivanya also. The quests Stormcloaks or Imperial Legion aren't started yet.
This must be bug or is there a new killer? I need a black box to see their last minutes. It would be nice to hear if there more player experience that mystery. Quozar 23:38, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

i have this problem too. i know its caused my windhelms collision going wrong, the weapons and shields up at the market fly away and many npc (ex arivanya) falls through the ground and dies. thats whats happening to you, they fall through the ground due to collision glitch. i dont know why or how this is happening. and if your on pc, dont bother resurrecting them or place a new npc next to you, their death script has already started. — Unsigned comment by 83.251.126.64 (talk) at 13:26 on 3 March 2012 (GMT)
I am having the same exact problem, I've tried reloading to older saves and everything yet he randomly appears dead at the main gate. I hate this because I try never to let friendly NPCs die. I'm playing on patch 1.9. — Unsigned comment by 75.85.71.221 (talk) at 08:11 on 28 June 2013‎

Burned-down Windhelm on first visit?[edit]

Okay, I need to write this down somewhere and this is as good a place as any. I recently completed the entire CW quest line for the Imperials, including Battle for Windhelm where everything goes up in flames. I then decided to complete it for the Stormcloaks as well, just to compare. Reloaded an earlier save (just after completing The Fallen and before ever taking side in the war quests) and visited Windhelm for the very first time. Problem is, I found it burned down, just as it was after Battle for Windhelm. This save should have absolutely nothing to do with my Imperials save, so I’m really, really puzzled. Why is Windhelm burning and barricaded all over the place, if I never visited town before? It’s almost like my save data was screwed up somehow, but it seems strange. I’d really like to hear from people who completed the Imperial quest line, then reloaded an earlier save from before visiting Windhelm. Is it burning for you too? --Krusty 00:55, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

I also completed the CW quest line for the Imperials. I went back and loaded my oldest save (I hadn't even been to Whiterun yet). I ran to Windhelm and it appeared normal, just like when I first visited it. No fire/ruins/barricades. I entered The Palace of the Kings and exited it again, just to check. No change. --Xyzzy 05:03, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Dark elf player.[edit]

Is the dialogue supposed to be different if you're a dark elf? because i am a vampire dark elf and no one has noticed i am dark elf, not event he other dark elves. Is this a bug? 217.137.157.197 22:10, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

No, your race counts as Vampire if you're a vampire. The game views you different. 99.122.114.122 18:02, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Error in Miscellaneous Quest Table[edit]

I've just noticed that the table here says that Stands-in-Shallows wants you to steal Shavee's Amulet of Zenithar rather than getting the Double-Strength Skooma for him as it says on the Some Light Theft quest page. I think this needs correcting. Regards :). 82.4.54.248 00:01, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Yea, it should have been Double-Distilled Skooma, I changed it! ^_^ — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 00:13, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Market District[edit]

Okay so I just updated with patch 2.08 and went to the market, was the wall by the Smithy always broken? Because I have no memory of this, also a guard now stands behind the broken wall--Dovahreid 13:03, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

Could you be more specific how you judge it as broken? And what wall? The low fence like wall between the smithy and the rest of the market or some other wall? —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:13, 12 February 2013 (GMT)

House in Windhelm[edit]

The game locks up every time I try to enter Hjerim. I have stored my masks here and cannot retrieve them. I have been throwing all my extra jewels here (a ton)...is it possible to have too many things in a residence? — Unsigned comment by 98.223.236.194 (talk) at 14:34 on 18 February 2013 (GMT)

Have you installed and/or uninstalled mods that may interfere with your house and/or items you have stored there? The same question goes to DLC? —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:36, 18 February 2013 (GMT)

Respawn time/condition for city guards[edit]

I killed most of Windhelm guards some time ago for some reason I don't remember, although there is still one patrolling inside the city walls and palace guards and the ones at the dock are still there, but it seems most of the dead ones, for example the ones guarding the palace entrance, have never respawned so far. Guards in Markarth however do get respawned within a few days. Do I have to kill *all* of the guards for a timed respawn? --Kinlar (talk) 20:34, 29 March 2013 (GMT)

I don't think so, but you have to stay out of town for at least 10 consecutive days if you want them to respawn. Try to avoid Windhelm for a while and the guards should be back. Elakyn (talk) 20:52, 29 March 2013 (GMT)

Market District II[edit]

Another question about the market: for me most of the market is a mess. Goods are floating in the air, especially at Niranye's (sp.) stall. I thought it was some bug, but even after a few patches, it is still messed. Is the reason for this known, and is there a fix? I tried stealing all the stuff to clear the place, but they later respawned the sam way, floating around. 91.137.244.139 12:48, 15 April 2013 (GMT)

I have the same problem. Weapons, shields, and meat everywhere! I also have a dead Angrenor Once-Honored lying in the marketplace, and a completely missing Aval Atheron (yes, I've checked the Hall of the Dead). I tried staying away from Windhelm entirely for 19 game days (on the basis that several people have said it takes 10 game days to reset a cell), but when I returned, nothing had changed. I'm on the Xbox 360, patch 1.9.31.0.8. Baratron (talk) 22:06, 17 April 2013 (GMT)

New Map Location[edit]

Okay, so I have played this game for quite some time, and just got the Windhelm docks on a new file and there's a map marker for it. Is this new or am I going mental? Jahkayhla (talk) 00:14, 16 December 2013 (GMT)

What platform are you playing? If it is PC, do you have any mods or unofficial patches installed? —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:53, 16 December 2013 (GMT)
Playing on Xbox 360. Got told my system needed to update and it appeared shortly after. Jahkayhla (talk) 02:07, 20 December 2013 (GMT)
This update was not patching to version 1.9.31.0.8, but a more recent update that did not change the version number? —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:08, 20 December 2013 (GMT)
I'm not even sure if it was a Skyrim update. It just said my system needed to update. I didn't notice the map marker until afterwards. Jahkayhla (talk) 04:26, 21 December 2013 (GMT)

() There was a mapmarker added with Dawnguard (DLC1WindhelmDocksMapMarker), but as far as I can see, it is always disabled. Some bad memory write enabled it? There was actually a way to enable it all along? Or did some xbox update change that? --Alfwyn (talk) 16:14, 21 December 2013 (GMT)

It's not there on my other file. As far as I can remember, I had beaten Dawnguard and was pretty far into the Dragonborn questline. Perhaps there is something to do with Dragonborn that activates it? I'll try to get it again on my new character and see if anything in particular activates it. Jahkayhla (talk) 15:53, 30 December 2013 (GMT)
Same issue here and no idea. I think maybe one of mods is doing this?? — Unsigned comment by 82.12.245.9 (talk) at 00:45 on 9 February 2014 (GMT)
FWIMC: Playing a long time on 360 and just noticed Windhelm Docks map marker today for the first time during Battle for Windhelm. I never noticed it before, so I reloaded a few old saves to look for it and it wasn't there. I think it was added along with Windhelm Military Camp marker. Windhelm fences and decorations missing[edit]

Hello!

I'm playing the legendary edition of Skyrim and i've encountered a bug in Windhelm. It seems that in the part of town around Hjerim, a lot of the fences and decorations are missing. They don't show up and there is no collision also. I've saved my game before entering Windhelm for the first time, but it's always the same, the fences around Hjerim and house of clan Cruel-Sea specifically are completely missing.

It doesn't seem to be game breaking but it's irritating. Any help would be appreciated! — Unsigned comment by 93.103.182.212 (talk) at 13:09 on 25 December 2013

Windhelm Arena?[edit]

Based on some info I've seen on other pages (including some of the Unused NPCs floating around in the game data) I have come to the understanding that there was originally supposed to be an Arena in Windhelm (I'm assuming similar to the Arena in TES4: Oblivion). Is this correct? If so, maybe it could be added as a 'fun fact' or at least in a 'Notes' section. Piffinatour (talk) 16:19, 16 January 2014 (GMT)

We currently have it documented at Test Cells - a note about it may be the way to go. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:56, 16 January 2014 (GMT)

Valunstrad[edit]

Is this really not mentioned in any text beyond the Prima Guide? I'm using a new computer, don't have everything working and ready yet. If it's only referred to as such in the Prima Guide, my reverted edit should be readded in some manner. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:33, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

As far as I can tell. I first searched the wiki and there didn't seem to be anything referencing a source for that name; there were few results and they were just Skyrim pages about buildings in Windhelm saying "it's in the Valunstrad district" but nothing saying why it's called that, where the name comes from, etc. I did a search on cs.uesp.net and the only results were 38 STAT records named something along the lines of WHValunstrad. So it doesn't seem to be referenced in-game; no dialogue or books that I can find. ~ Alarra (talk) 07:07, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Flowers seem never respawn[edit]

Skyrim Special Edition adds some Nightshade flowers around the graveyard in Windhelm. I plucked all of them for the Ingun quest but it seems they never respawn when I revisited the city after some time had passed. I also plucked 1 or 2 Nightshade in Solitude near where Roggvir is executed after plucking the ones in Windhelm. The Solitude ones respawn but not the Windhelm ones.

This might also be the same problem Windhelm guards who die never respawn, as mentioned by someone above long time ago, also in the bugs section of Skyrim:Guards page. 115.134.179.16 14:20, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Further testing: I loaded a recent save and waited for more than 30 days inside Honeyside house, Nightshade in Windhelm did respawn. Test it further, I reloaded the same save and waited for more than 10 days inside Honeyside, the flowers also respawned. So, my mistake. 115.134.179.16 15:35, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
