Bug[edit]

There was a solution for the bug that the quest can't be finished "hidden" in the source (it wasn't visible due to a manual bullet point character). I don't know how to format the two paragraphs so that they have the same indentation and still fit inside the same Bug braces, so I joined them into one. I've encountered the bug on the PC version and can confirm the console fix partially works. I don't know how to make the bug template show that bug applies to both XBox and PC version, either, so someone who does should probably fix all this. Thanks! --188.100.158.221 16:35, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Bah, by the time I talked to Svari, I had 5 amulets on me. Greta told me she'd go to temple, didn't take a single amulet, didn't give me a reward, and didn't finish the quest. Luckily at least she made the amulets be non quest items, but I can't do anything with setstage or completequest to get rid of this quest in the journal. Even setstage 200 which should list it as failed.BMFPoochie 21:21, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Can someone please tell me how to get rid of this quest!? I don't care about the reward anymore, I just want it gone! None of the setstage commands are working! 184.19.11.214 07:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Radiant?[edit]

Perhaps I don't understand the radiant quest system but, I don't see how this qualifies as one. Don't they have to have at least one aspect that's random? If so, what part(s) of this quest is(are) random? Foubister 07:43, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, it's not radiant. Some people seem to think any miscellaneous quest is radiant, but they're not. — Unsigned comment by 173.169.155.159 (talk) at 01:04 on 7 December 2011
Nephele is the one who put it there so I'm apt to believe that there's a good reason for it (s/he's a well respected editor) but, to err is human. I think I'll wait until the CS comes out before getting picky. Foubister 07:06, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I thought it is a radiant one. Any quests whose menu contains <Alias.ShortName=Target> etc. are controlled by the radiant system, although this can only be trigger by the only one person and the target list has only one person. --Aflyhorse 23:23, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Reward[edit]

What is the reward for this one? 85.157.34.172 03:31, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

I don't know. I completed the quest but didn't get anything, even though the conversation suggested she would give me something for my trouble. By the way, I got one such amulet before, but I left it in my Riften home. When I did this quest, I had to steal the amulet from the catacomb because the body already disappeared from the execution place. 71.132.201.220 09:13, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
I also have no clue what the reward is. Instead I keep the amulet of talos and it becomes a non-quest item. Unlike stealing from the catacombs, I did retrieve the amulet from the body after starting the quest (to be on the safe side) but when I returned it to Greta with the option "I've got the Amulet", she proclaims to give me something for my trouble but nothing appears in the corner of my screen to clarify receiving anything and I keep the amulet but the quest IS completed. The only denoting factor not mentioned above was that I decided to save before completing this quest to try and catch anything strange after completing the quest. my weight capacity said 299/330 before I completed the quest. After completing, it said 300/330, yet I have not found any item that suggest I earned something from Greta. Also money was not a coherent reward. my amount in gold was 2742 constant before and after completing the quest. -Anonymous User — Unsigned comment by 74.130.21.65 (talk) at 04:43 on 19 December 2011
Your Amulet of Talos was a quest item so it had zero weight. After you complete the quest, the Amulet of Talos is no longer a quest item, so it has a weight of 1. 173.51.151.186 23:27, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
I had my follower loot the coffin in the catacombs and as a result the stolen flag was somehow removed from the amulet. The Official Game Guide claims the reward for this quest is leveled gold. None was given, though I did get to keep the now no longer stolen amulet. — Unsigned comment by 98.111.53.66 (talk) at 19:34 on 7 January 2012

Use console drop command to get quest complete[edit]

I had two undroppable Amulet of Talos in my possession and the quest would not complete, nor would I earn the reward. I used player.drop cc846 to drop both amulets, then talked to Greta to get the quest. Picked one up and talked to her again for quest completion. Didn't get a reward but at least it cleared the quest. — Unsigned comment by 99.73.224.32 (talk) at 02:32 on 28 December 2011

This would seem to be the preferred method to complete the quest. Sqs, sqo and the quest marker will follow correct progression with the exception that Stages 20 and 30 will both complete when you pick the quest amulet back up. Not a problem. Upon talking to Greta, the quest will then complete and clear itself from the Quest Journal. Although she mentions giving you something, your inventory does not change. It appears that there is no cash quest reward. Retaining the quest item seems to be in keeping with several other quests around Solitude. Lazar 08:10, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Stuck in log[edit]

So I have no recent earlier save to revert to and this mission is stuck in my log. Sqs SolitudeFreeform03 returns that Stage 0, 10, 40, 200 are completed and 20, 30 are not. Setstage 200 doesn't remove it from the log, since that stage seems to be completed already. Killing the npc also doesn't seem to work. Halp?— Unsigned comment by 75.34.55.137 (talk)

Type resetquest SolitudeFreeform03 and doing it over again with one of the fixes shown. This should resolve your problem. Sulhir 06:45, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
When do it again, the radiant system seems won't generate the correct information. After speak with Greta, another journal titled "Retrieve <Alias.ShortName=Item> off of <Alias.ShortName=DeadPerson>." wiil emerge, and thus you can only complete this one, but the original "Speak to Greta about going to the Temple of Divines." will not vanish. --Aflyhorse 00:19, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Still stuck in log[edit]

I used resetquest SolitudeFreeform03 and it does nothing... it is still in my log as "Speak to Greta about going to the temple of divines" and she doesn't saying anything different.

Is there a way to completely jsut destroy the quest... i don't want to reset it, or re-do it, i just want it deleted. — Unsigned comment by 67.171.203.81 (talk) at 01:38 on 6 February 2012

Try "CompleteAllObjectives SolitudeFreeform03". --Gaebrial 15:49, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Just tried, not working as of version 1.4. --Aflyhorse 23:23, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
To delete it you will have to revert to a save prior to getting the quest. Otherwise, use resetquest SolitudeFreeform03 and then use the setstage command to manually advance through Stages 10, 20 and 30. Then talk to Greta and the quest should complete and clear. Lazar 08:32, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Manually advancing though stages 10, 20, and 30 does not work. You have to revert to a prior save. — Unsigned comment by 70.113.73.249 (talk) at 04:32 on 23 March 2012
I started this quest at the start of the game and I'm now near the end so it's impossible to reload. This is the only quest I have stuck in my journal along with the infinite companion one. Resetting and walking through quest stages manually don't work, it create a second instance of the quest in the journal with "" instead of Greta of the item name and let the other journal instance untouched. — Unsigned comment by Dunge (talkcontribs) at 22:23 on 13 April 2012
The only solutions are indeed only to load and old save or use Skyrim Quest Deleter, here is a link to a guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=396170582. I tried to resetquest SolitudeFreeform03 and then recomplete the quest manually (you can use any Amulet of Talos) and with setStage SolitudeFreeform03 30 but it didn't work. I got the new dialogue and refinished the quest but it didn't work, the quest was still there in the log, so I guess loading an old save or using Skyrim Quest Deleter are the only options.

His corpse is gone.[edit]

Just what it said. On 360, so no console. It's been only a day.NickTyrong 19:51, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Nevermind. Missed the part about the Catacombs. NickTyrong 22:04, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

My Experiences[edit]

I did a quicksave right after the execution so I was able to try some variations. (Patch 1.5)

Savari didn't offer the Uncle convo option when I first tried talking to her. It took 3 or more tries before the option came up.

Taking the amulet before speaking with Savari and Greta ruined things. I tried the suggestion of exiting the conversation instead of choosing "Actually, I've got it here", then talking to her again (several times). The option "Hi. Svari asked me to talk to you" was still there but no option to give the amulet.

Dropping and retrieving the amulet didn't work. Han 16:17, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Bug-free Walkthrough[edit]

  • Arrive during the day (I don't know if Svari and the children will be outside playing at night after the execution, and you don't want to leave the cell to find her inside Addvar's house because you risk Roggvir's corpse vanishing)
  • Wait for the execution to run its course and let the crowd finish dissipating (good cue is when Ahtar walks down the steps from the execution area). Do not leave the cell or enter any buildings in the interim. Do not loot Roggvir's corpse.
  • Now quickly seek out Svari (Greta's daughter), running around with her two friends, and talk to her - follow the "sorry about your uncle" dialogue to get to the quest trigger dialogue
  • Quickly find and talk to Greta while she is still outside (probably on her way to Addvar's house) - again, you're trying to intercept her before she leaves the cell - you don't want the Solitude exterior cell to refresh as it may remove Roggvir's corpse. Use the "Svari asked me to talk to you" dialogue to trigger the quest to get the amulet
  • Now go to Roggvir's corpse and take the amulet of Talos
  • Return it to Greta (she might be inside Addvar's house by now, but it won't matter other than you may need to pick the lock)
  • Say that you have the amulet and it will be successfully removed from your inventory, you will successfully receive a (leveled, presumably) gold reward, and the quest will successfully complete and clear from your journal
  • As an aside, if you have experienced issues with getting Sorex' delivery quest in the past, now is a good time to acquire it - he should be standing outside somewhere just past Angeline's Aromatics

A way to clear your log[edit]

I also am the unlucky one, who looted Roggvir's corpse right after his execution. For hours now I've been searching for answer, and the most stupid idea came to my mind. To wipe away the journal entry "Speak to Greta ..." you need the working and installed version of Creation Kit. Just press the button "Open File" and select the "skyrim.esm", but do not press "OK" button afterwards. Instead, press the "Details..." button, and then wait. It will take a while, but the list will show up. Sort by either a "Type" or "ID", and search for a "QUST" type record with following name - "SolitudeFreeform03". After you've found it, select it and press "Delete" on keyboard. This will put the "ignore" flag in place, and will simply remove the quest from the game. Thus anything it can bring will no longer appear, including journal entries. What is good about "ignore" flags - you can remove them the same way you put them into place. After you put the flag in place, close the "Details" window, but DON'T press the OK button, simply close Creation Kit and launch Skyrim, and then load your game. You should be fine, and quest in the journal will be erased. I'm not sure if it will appear in save games after you remove the "ignore" flag, but I will try to test it. Oh, and for this solution to work - make sure you turn off any plugins that alter this quest (I had to turn off Unofficial Skyrim Patch). Alastor, 22:10, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Just tried removing "ignore" flag from Creation Kit after saving in game with it - the quest became COMPLETELY reset - as if I never started it - bugged journal entry had not reappeared. I believe this way really works! --Alastor, 22:52, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
This definitely works, not just for this quest but for many others, too. Thanks! - Anon — Unsigned comment by 142.129.54.247 (talk) at 01:35 on 5 February 2013
Also tried and also succeeded. Only thing is my quest wasn't "completely reset" in that the sqs command showed the objectives were completed just as before this fix. Doesn't break anything, but when I talked to the kid I had the option to ask about her mother but I chose a different dialogue first. Haven't had the option to restart it since unless I wanted to console start it.
On a side note, when the log bug was taken care of I also spoke with Ysolda in Whiterun shortly thereafter and she let me start her mammoth tusk quest which I remember I never had the opportunity to do on my first few visits. Anyone else notice this bug affecting either Ysolda'a quest or another freeform in another area? -- Erukor 16:36, 21 February 2013 (CST) — Unsigned comment by 12.231.208.165 (talk)

What about Xbox and Ps3 Users[edit]

Is there a way that you can get rid of the amulet or finish the quest with creation kit or console commands.— Unsigned comment by 121.216.209.142 (talk) at 06:54 on 29 December 2012‎

Xbox 360 Return to Grace Completion Method[edit]

Just managed to complete the quest on the Xbox 360 version of Skyrim (Needs to be confirmed on PS3 version). The key to completing this glitch quest is to keep the characters involved near the execution area as Roggvir's body disappears if you stray too far. The wiki states you can go get his Amulet of Talos from Solitude Catacombs but I have never tried that and this way is much easier as well as less time consuming. YOU MUST NOT HAVE THE AMULET BEFORE YOU OFFER TO GET IT FOR GRETA!

I kept Svari engaged in conversation as to keep her from straying too far. For some reason or another, a dialog option of giving her one gold was coming up and I left the option up, thus causing her to stay put. I'm not sure if this has happen to other people playing the game (She asked if I could be her mother a previous attempt to work around this problem). I believe the dialog for mentioning her Uncle will not open until sometime after the guards on the execution platform step down and the crowd starts dispersing.

After finishing with Svari, Greta should be right there ready for you to talk to her. Offer to get the Amulet of Talos and go right over to Roggvir's body to pick it up. I can't remember if it gave me anything upon turning it in but it stated "Return the amulet to Greta Completed" and the quest was taken off the list.

I hope this helps those fellow completionists out there.

It works! Thanks a bunch. I entered Solitude around 1pm-ish, and did what you said, keeping Svari hanging. Had to cut the conversation with her a few times to get closer to the execution stand so that the execution could proceed. The crowd started dispersing at 1:30pm, and then Svari ran in Bits and Pieces and came out with the 2 other kids immediately. Got the quest starting dialogue then, and proceeded. Thanks again, and Xbox 360 here as well. 76.166.130.139 01:39, 5 August 2013 (GMT)
Just tried on PS3, on my sister's game. It marked the quest as completed, but I got no gold, and the amulet was still in my inventory. This is the exact same result I had in my game, when I did the quest over a moth after the execution.68.231.140.127 04:12, 19 January 2015 (GMT)

Suggested fix doesn't work properly[edit]

setStage SolitudeFreeform03 30 is said to remove the entry from journal with giving no reward. On the contrary I received gold but the only thing in journal to change was the quest entry becoming unable to activate. 178.252.126.70 18:33, 2 September 2013 (GMT)

Just tried this method, journal entry was still in my log. Got the message "Return [...] to [...]" and recompleted the quest, but journal entry was still glitched — Unsigned comment by 66.27.71.125 (talk) at 18:25 on 11 July 2014‎
Thanks for the confirmation. I've removed it from the page. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:15, 11 July 2014 (GMT)

Solution for ps3[edit]

I have worked it out for the ps3, need to be confirmed in xbox. After speaking with Greta (and causing the glich) drop the (one) amulet of talod in front of her, then talk to her again, she will tell you that you droped some piece of armor, tell her to take it and that's it, the quest is completed — Unsigned comment by 189.203.218.215 (talk) at 22:53 on 24 August 2014

That would work on all platforms, except it's a random event which only happens very rarely, so it's not a usable solution. Robin Hood  (talk) 01:48, 25 August 2014 (GMT)
Just as a funny side note, I did this and she just took it and left. So rude.Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 01:39, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

A dragon seen, requeriment to get this quest from Svari[edit]

With Legendary and non-standard start mods, I only get this quest after finish Unbound or equivalent quest. Svari only talk when you can tell to her about a dragon seen.
