weird[edit]

I return to my home in whiterun ,to store some gear when she randomly told me this "Am glade were friends ,here i got you somthing" or somthing like that and gave me a ragged cap? has this happane to anyone else p.s i think she killed the hobo in white run because i never take out to battle with me but i haven't cheaked yet — Unsigned comment by 107.10.38.37 (talk) at 04:40 on 14 April 2012

Sometimes NPCs who have a high enough disposition will give you gifts. It doesn't seem to happen very often, but it's part of the game. ABCface 05:23, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
The above is correct. It's very rare, though. I've had it happen to me no more than two or three times in 2000+ hours of play, always with Lydia. 174.6.51.17 10:20, 26 February 2013 (GMT)

Lydia outside the house in the middle of Whiterun[edit]

I'm not sure why but she was standing outside in the middle of whiterun by the blacksmith. I was stunned and had to blink a few times. I'm not sure what caused it and I know I went into my house and made sure to check every room and only then did she enter the house from outside. I have been away from my Whiterun House for many in game months, so I'm unsure if that has anything to do with her being outside the house. --67.185.108.121 03:46, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

I too have a problem of this kind. When and wherever I tell Lydia to "part ways" she says that she'll head back home. But infact she does not move to Breezehome and remained standing at the same place where I dismissed her. This problem starts when I started playing Dawnguard main quest, don't know if there is a relation with that. Any kind of help to solve the problem? — Unsigned comment by 117.194.3.94 (talk) at 02:15 on 13 August 2013
This worked for me. Ask Lydia to follow you, when you go away from her she just stands still and don't follow. Draw your weapon and kill her, you should see a text telling your follower left you. If she is not epic (can't die), use console command resurrect (use eg. Google to find out how). If she is epic, fast travel to another location, then back, and now ask to follow, and she will follow, if she is not where you killed her, she might be in Breezehome in Whiterun. — Unsigned comment by 85.233.240.80 (talk) at 21:49 on 1 April 2014‎
Have the same problem with Lydia standing still and not moving after I dismiss her. But in my case the problem appeared after I installed BreezehomeTNF (Elianora's edition). I have no idea how to fix this. Uninstalling the house mod does solve the problm though. But the house is too damn good, I can't force myself to return to the vanilla Breezehome. — Unsigned comment by 188.168.106.208 (talk) at 08:52 on 3 April 2014‎

Buying Lydia's Equipment from her[edit]

Ok, I decided to marry Lydia in-game, and then i wanted to set her up with some more lady-like clothes than her battlegear, so i could keep her around the house and use another follower. However, Once i married her and checked her shop to buy her steel armour, shield, etc. it didn't show up. The only armoiur in there was some random gear that you would find in her ordinary shop, and none of her equipped gear. Is this supposed to happen? will her gear show up eventually with the daily resets of her stock? — Unsigned comment by Jaffarr (talkcontribs) at 10:23 on 9 January 2013

You will never be able to buy her gear as she never sells it. And yes it is supposed to happen. - The Chez Cake Talk to the Cheese 10:50, 9 January 2013 (GMT)
For more info on your spouse's merchandise, see this section of the Marriage article. — ABCface 17:43, 9 January 2013 (GMT)
I checked around some more, and found that if you give her some armour better than her default, her default armour will show up in the shop, which you can buy and replace, and then take back the armour you gave her. I haven't tried this yet, but im just saying that according to a lot of sources it is possible, although glitchy, to make follower spouses wear normal clothes... Jaffarr (talk) 01:51, 10 January 2013 (GMT)
You can't replace all of your spouse's clothing. A follower spouse will respawn the default armor/clothes if you buy them all. However you can buy the armor/gauntlets and leave the default boots, for example. --Morrolan (talk) 19:12, 17 March 2013 (GMT)

Dialogue[edit]

I think this was once mentioned here but got removed: she says 'honor to you, my thane' even after married. Additional thing: she opened a shop in my house without mentioning it. Could it be a bug? — Unsigned comment by ‎86.101.32.61 (talk) at 19:29 on 29 January 2013

When you marry an NPC, they're not supposed to lose their original dialogue. They keep their original dialogue, plus have extra marriage-related dialogue added. So her saying "Honor to you, my thane" even after married is not a bug. After all, she is still your housecarl, in addition to now being your spouse. Also, she's supposed to become a merchant after being married as well, so this is not a bug either. You may have missed it when she first brought it up- it's easy to miss short lines of dialogue sometimes, especially when NPCs are interrupted and start different lines before finishing what they started saying in the first place. But you're not experiencing anything out of the ordinary here. — ABCface 19:51, 29 January 2013 (GMT)
Thank you for the answer! She mentioned she will open a shop the last time I talked to her, but it was after she actually did it. — Unsigned comment by 86.101.32.61 (talk) at 20:18 on 29 January 2013

Dragonborn Dialogue[edit]

Did some digging in the CK just now to determine whether some of this new housecarl dialogue is unique to Lydia. Turns out, all of the following lines of dialogue can only be spoken by Lydia (Cond:GetIsID HousecarlWhiterun == 1.00) and some of it has additional conditions.

"I've come a long way to kill you." The target must be an Ash Spawn, Netch, or Riekling. "I don't plan on being killed by the likes of you." The target must be an Ash Spawn, Netch, or Riekling. "I don't have to know what you are to kill you." Ash Spawn or Netch. "What next, carnivorous rabbits?" Target is a Riekling. "I don't know whether to kill it or pet it." Target is a Riekling. "That's a nice trick, but it won't save your skin." Target is a mounted Riekling (one of the boar riders). "For Whiterun!" GetInCurrentLoc DLC2SolstheimLocation == 1.00, so apparently she only says it while in Solstheim. "So this is Raven Rock, Eh? Not all that much to look at." Arriving in Solstheim. "I've heard tales of the mushroom towers of Morrowind. Never thought I'd see one." Near Tel Mithryn. "Someone's been busy." Near the Temple of Miraak, Have not yet completed DLC2MQ06. "Hmm. Reminds me of the standing stones back home." Near a DLC2LocTypePillar, DLC2MQ03B completed. "There's something... wrong here." Near a DLC2LocTypePillar, DLC2MQ03B not completed. "She fights well enough, for a Skaal." During DLC2MQ02, between stages 30 and 200.

Also I believe a statement made on in the article is incorrect: "While she is still sworn to carry your burdens, additional variations on that have been added as well." I didn't find any evidence in the CK to support this claim, nor have I heard her say anything new when I've traded equipment with her ingame. -Trogdor — Unsigned comment by 99.141.87.48 (talk) at 00:02 on 13 February 2013‎ (GMT)

Lydia's line "So this is Raven Rock" seems to be spoken after the automatic conversation with Adril Arano. On one character, she said that line once I was into town, but I had rushed off the boat and was well up by Glover's shop before she caught up with me. With the most recent character, I stood fast on the boat and she said that line right after the conversation with Arano was finished. Quillan (talk) 18:45, 21 February 2013 (GMT)
The new "trade items" dialogue for Lydia is definitely in Dragonborn, I've heard it myself. I'm playing on the 360 version, though. If evidence of it should be in the CK but it's absent, and you can't get her to say it no matter how many times you ask to trade items, maybe they were accidentally cut from the PC version or something? Strange... Icedus (talk) 15:17, 13 February 2013 (GMT)
For me, her new trade dialogue appeared with the 1.8 patch. Since I play on PC, it was well before I got Dragonborn. Quillan (talk) 18:47, 21 February 2013 (GMT)
Are we on consensus that just because Trogodor didn't find it in the CK doesn't mean that it's not really there (since it is), and it's good as is? It appears nearly ALL followers have somewhat expanded trade dialogue due to DB, or some update. ("I am at your command" is something I've heard from Lydia - I'm switching out between Breylana, Jordis, Lydia, and I'm running with Jenassa right now. Jenassa asks me if I really want to give her things when I open up the trade menu, as an FYI.) Agmen (talk) 05:33, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
The two lines I recently removed from the page, "How can I serve you, my Thane?" and "I am at your command." were added by Hearthfire. They don't appear to be unique to Lydia. — ABCface 05:39, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
Looking into it further, for the player dialogue "I need to trade some things with you.", here are all the base game responses, the Hearthfire-added responses (top three unique to specific NPCs), and the Dragonborn-added responses (all three are unique to specific NPCs, none Lydia). With this information, I'll go ahead and remove the line about new trade dialogue specific to Lydia from the page altogether. — ABCface 05:51, 25 February 2013 (GMT)

Rescue quest[edit]

I'm not sure this should be listed under her "Related Quests". This quest is radiant, and as far as I know it can affect almost anyone in Skyrim, or at least anyone who can be a good friend of the player. General policy has been not to include quests such as that, because then the same list of radiant quests would be on almost every NPC page. If the list of possible targets is very small, I can see justification for this, but in this case I don't think it is - can anyone confirm? — TheRealLurlock (talk) 00:38, 20 February 2013 (GMT)

Ref ID[edit]

While playing Dragonborn (becuase I -finally- got it) I noticed that Lydia's Ref ID was changed. Obviously, this is because Dragonborn adds dialogue and mods the NPC. I was just wondering if this information should be included on the page. This message was written by Rosalia Tell her what you think......of her work here. 07:41, 24 February 2013 (GMT)

The Ref ID is 08034e5b, where '08' represents the placement of Dragonborn in my load order. So should the page include a note about her Ref ID changing to xx034e5b? This message was written by Rosalia Tell her what you think......of her work here. 07:43, 24 February 2013 (GMT)
Are your sure you copied the ref correctly, the CS lists that ref as Cultist dialogue. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:48, 24 February 2013 (GMT)
Yes. I double checked it, just to be sure. When I click on Lydia in my game, I get "08034e5b" as the RefID. When I use the prid command to target her using the a2c94 RefID, no commands will work on her. This message was written by Rosalia Tell her what you think......of her work here. 09:07, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
Well, the ID I get is still 000a2c94 when I click on her (SR+DG+HF+DB, nothing else). I'd suspect it's some mod (unofficial patch?) changing the ID. Does something like "help Neloth" show only IDs starting with 08 for you, or some prefix mixture? --Alfwyn (talk) 15:02, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
Neloth comes up with a prefix of 04... I am so confused now. This message was written by Rosalia Tell her what you think......of her work here. 00:31, 27 February 2013 (GMT)
Yeah, if you're getting prefixes as high as "08" on anything, it's because of unofficial mods (given that there's only 5 official ones so far). Any mod which alters Lydia in any way (even bug fixes) has the potential to change her refID. Given that Lydia is one of the most popular targets for modding, it's quite likely that something like this occurred, even if it's not obvious what. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 02:36, 27 February 2013 (GMT)

"So this is Raven Rock, Eh? Not all that much to look at."[edit]

Hello, I can confirm I heard this phrase from Lydia after fast travelling to Solstheim --Mannygt (talk) 10:32, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

Yes, she has quite a bit of new dialogue in dragonborn. Jeancey (talk) 14:06, 12 March 2013 (GMT)
She does not say that line while you are on the boat. — Unsigned comment by 82.74.67.87 (talk) at 10:18 on 19 August 2013

Lydia comments on stealing[edit]

So I have used Lydia as my Companion for the better part of 600 hours and only once has she commented on my stealing. I usually make her stand outside when I am going to steal something, I don't know why its just what I do. However once while in the Ragged Flagon I stole a bow from one of the vendors (it was sitting on the counter and I figured that if your a merchant selling to thieves and I am the guild Master then you should expect me to steal some things...I digress) This time and only this one time Lydia says "Wow you must really need that" Since I maxed sneak no one has caught me and her comment gave me a start..I nearly choked. Anyone else experience that? — Unsigned comment by 50.152.192.254 (talk) at 06:18 on 28 March 2013 (GMT)

upgrading Lydia's armour[edit]

This perplexes me, has anyone else had problems with the following? I have previously had Lydia in Legendary Forsworn Armour but for the last few months she's been running around in Ancient Nord Armour. I currently have 100 smithing and when i smith stuff i wear an apron with +22% smithing, a ring with +22% smithing, gloves with +22% smithing and an amulet with +25% smithing. Then i chug a +50% smithing potion. I just completed the mission to get Saviors Hide armour and wanted to see what Lydia looked like wearing it. So i smithed it as above, went into Lydia's "burdens" dialogue, took away her Ancient Nord Armour and replaced it with the Legendary Saviors Hide armour. She refused to wear it, preferring her default steel armour. So i took it back and gave her the Legendary Forsworn Armour that she had been wearing earlier - again she refused to wear it, preferring her default armour, despite the fact that she's been wearing the Forsworn Amour for about 1/3 of the game!

Anyone know what's happened and if there is a fix? All I can think of is that she's been changed by one of the patches that I've had to download. BTW I'm playing on xbox not PC. --176.27.198.9 11:07, 2 April 2013 (GMT) Paul.

*sigh* Okay so, basically it goes like this: Lydia, as you can see in the table, is proficient in Heavy Armor, not in Light Armor. At early levels, armor and weapon skills don't really matter because the tagged skills of each NPC are still pretty low, too low to make a difference. However, as followers level up so do their skills, so at level 35+ Lydia has 100 Heavy Armor, while her Light Armor skill is unchanged. This results in her default Steel Armor providing her better protection than a Legendary Forsworn Armor. I did the maths and, at 100 Heavy Armor, an unmodified Steel Armor (chest piece) gives her 78 armor rating, while a Legendary Forsworn Armor only gives her about 50. Elakyn (talk) 11:41, 2 April 2013 (GMT)
you missed my point... this is not about what armour beats what armour.... these are items that she WAS WEARING and now will NO LONGER WEAR. i.e. she was happy to wear these items and now she is no longer happy to wear these items. Thanks anyway. — Unsigned comment by 176.27.198.9 (talk) on 6 April, 2013‎
As Elakyn said, Lydia must have leveled past the point your forsworn armor was better than her steel armor ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 11:50, 6 April 2013 (GMT)
Lydia's skills are weighted towards heavy armor, not light armor. She will prefer heavy armor to any light armor you give her because that's what will yield a better armor rating for her. If you don't like this, edit her in the CK or use a mod that allows you to set an NPC's equipment.Kastagir (talk) 01:16, 24 June 2013 (GMT)
Confirmed. Before leveling up with her, this player had crafted her epic elven armor, which she does not wear. Looking in her inventory, her armor does not show up, so it can never be replaced with another piece of armor. Also made her epic elven gauntlets, boots, and helmet, but she only cares to wear the helmet.--Lmstearn (talk) 03:26, 4 January 2014 (GMT)

Follower levels[edit]

If this is already somewhere else, I'm sorry, but are followers scaled to your level? I've had Serena following me for a while, and she seems to be, but after re adopting Lydia as my companion, she seems to be dying much faster. Is this the result of a bug, some obscure coding, or just general stupidity on my part? 72.51.205.207 05:04, 6 April 2013 (GMT)

Lydia's level is PC×1 (range=6-50), that means she has the same level as you with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 50. They didn't use to level along with you properly before, but this was fixed by one of the official patches ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 11:56, 6 April 2013 (GMT)

Lydia Won't move in my house! Help[edit]

Ok so i,Lydia, and my 2 kids live together in Lakeview Manor One day i have this quest to rescue her from bandits, then s**t happens after i rescued her Lydia walks backwards and wont follow me properly (solved) But what troubles me is that when she is not following me as a follower she used to, she just stand still in my house and won't walk around (like she used to) And just stand still unless i ask her to follow me.. Is there a way to fix this? Any help would be so much appreciated Just to let you know i play on pc and i own all 3 dlc Sorry if my english is not that good — Unsigned comment by 139.228.11.239 (talk) at 13:53 on 2 July 2013

Yes that's a known bug. You need to "kill" her until she goes down to recover, that's how I reset her. (Make sure you save first) — Unsigned comment by 81.108.83.113 (talk) at 19:40 on 9 May 2014 (GMT)

Lydia won't stand up after getting "killed"[edit]

I had to go up to the Greybeards when I got attacked by a cat or something. Lydia almost got killed and now she cannot stand up anymore, she seems to be stuck in the "bleedout" position, is this solvable? --46.145.119.222 14:01, 1 August 2013 (GMT)

Almost exactly the same thing happened to me when going to the Greybeards -- I forget whether it was a cat or a bear we were tangling with, though. Lydia stayed in the bleedout position for some time after that, but eventually she corrected herself. 174.6.51.17 02:28, 18 August 2013 (GMT)
Sorry this is a late reply but you can fix this sometimes by running into her or by using Unrelenting Force. Just make sure she has enough health to survive and she'll get up as normal. --Seraphimhunter (talk) 03:11, 17 August 2014 (GMT)

Does Lydia dual wield staffs?[edit]

I've given Lydia a lightning bolt staff and the Eye of Melka, and I could swear that several times in battle I've seen some unfortunate opponent hit with a fireball and a lightning bolt more or less simultaneously. Is she dual wielding or just switching quickly? No matter which, she's a one-woman artillery battalion if you set her up that way. 174.6.51.17 19:13, 2 September 2013 (GMT)

Yes she can dual wield staves. Many followers can do this. You just have to be careful giving them area of effect staves because they do not discriminate. --Seraphimhunter (talk) 03:12, 17 August 2014 (GMT)

Lydia never sleeps[edit]

I made my Lydia, my Steward at Lakeview Manor, and she goes right to the big bed on the 2nd floor, but never gets in it, just stands by it for the whole night. Is there a way to fix that? I get hung up on the details, and just like it when the NPC's do what seems normal. Riordan (talk) 05:06, 15 December 2013 (GMT)

She never seems to sleep in Breezehome either, so it is not surprising. —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:33, 8 January 2014 (GMT)
I've noticed the same thing too (in Breezehome). USKP claimed to have fixed this in v1.2.2 (see penultimate note in changelog) but I guess the incorrect orientation of her bed wasn't the only problem. Some digging around yielded this gem of a post on the Nexus [1]. So it appears that USKP only fixed problem #2 but not #1. 81.152.206.247 11:05, 11 May 2014 (GMT)

Is she gone for good?[edit]

So I lost Lydia, and its been like 4 skyrim months and I still can't find her. I was in solitude at the blacksmith shop last time I seen her. I glitched through the wall to steal from the hidden chest in the shop and sadly when I glitched back in the shop I stole something by accident and they seen me do it. guards came threatened to take me to jail.so I fled the scene. She's not in dragonsreach the breezehome or the hall of the dead, Any idea where she might be? I'm asking because I owe solitude about 20000 gold for killing gaurds and I don't have the money to buy my way into the city. — Unsigned comment by OrcRaider (talkcontribs) at 08:52 on 19 March 2014‎

Did my wife Lydia rescue herself from bandits thanks to tempered dragonbone weapons and tempered/enchanted default steel armor?[edit]

I tend to drag on an lost the firt chunk of this via refresh on tablet, so will try to keep it brief. First off, playing legendary edition on amd a8 win 8 laptop with latest official patch and nothing else. My level 172 imperial dude has all crafting skills maxed/well perked with a set of +29% alchemy/smithing gear and +130% smithing potions. I made Lydia a set of tempered/enchanted dragonplate armor(except a circlet enchanted with waterbreathing and only equipped when following) and dragonbone sword/bow with hundreds/thousands of ebony arrows she will use any time she needs to fight, following or not. When following and dragon armor equipped, I bought her steel armor(except shield, bought that leter to enchant) to temper, enchant, and give back to her. That way, even when not following( like wnadering outside lakeview manor or kidnapped by bandits) her level 50 housecarl self is very well armed and well protected(from both physical andmgical attacks).

One day, after having spent a while adventuring alone, I rerurned to lakeview manor to find a female bandit standing outside my front door. Of course I immediately stealth killed her and checked her body for anything of worth. Among her belongings was a ransom note from a female bandit leader at nearby embershard mine saying they payed a visit to my house andLydia was so hospitable, they decided to take herbackwith them andi should stop by themineto discuss her release. I guess my journal updared with a new quest to go save her. I'm like " ok, I'll just head inside ro drop off someloot, then head out and get her back. No sooner did I walk in the front door than my journal updated saying the quest was completed. I think I fast traveled to the mine( may have just walked) and checked the place out. Went back to lakeview and no Lydia. Waited/slept a while andshe showed back up. She walked vackward for a while, butthenwas just fine.

In another instance, during the dawnguard questline, I was informed of Lyidia's capture by vampires and actually had to do a dungeon crawl and get her out of a cage. That happen to thejarl od riftentwice. So I wonder, did her custom weapons and armor allow her to escape her captors before even getting to the mine? I know that given her heavy armor skill and my smithimg( and how mujch greater benefit housecarls get for heavy armor per skill level) that even without helmet or shield she was past the damage reduction cap. Also doing hundreds od damage per strike with her weapons. Thoughts? — Unsigned comment by 198.176.250.136 (talk) at 04:28 on 26 December 2014 (GMT)

Nothing to do with the dragonbone equipment. See here for an explanation. —Legoless (talk) 15:47, 26 December 2014 (GMT)

Triggering Marriage Candidacy[edit]

Should it be noted in the article that (after patch 1.5.24) she can become a marriage candidate only after the purchase of Breezehome? I'm suggesting this because I was unaware of this fact, and it might help others if listed in the article. Telrav (talk) 00:13, 1 January 2015 (GMT)

I don't think this is true anymore: I've just married her and I don't own Breezehome. I have HF installed and the unofficial patch. — Unsigned comment by 149.12.2.246 (talk) at 23:55 on 29 June 2016 (UTC)
I'll look into it, see if this is true. USLEEP did fix this initially to have Lydia marriageable AFTER buying Breeze but not before. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:55, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
This is true, in fact. With original latest(June 2019) special edition(no mods) you don't have marriage option until Breezehome is bought. 46.246.123.94 07:34, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

These dialogue lines were deleted because they are generic. Several different followers say the same thing when you open a Black Book. Lydia Vanishes During Certain Quests[edit]

I'm adding this comment because I can confirm the bug on the main page, where Lydia will sometimes vanish during quests that assign you a partner who replaces your follower. This happened to me at the beginning of the Companions quest Proving Honor, where Farkas is required to come with me. Followers are supposed to automatically return home, but when I checked Breezehome, she wasn't there. She wouldn't have returned to Dragonsreach because I own and have fully upgraded Breezehome. This bug even occurs when using all the unofficial patches. FrozenWolf150 (talk) 22:02, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Lydia cares about me trespassing?[edit]

I'm in Calixto's House of Curiosities after I killed him. I wanted to talk to Lydia so I could hand her some stuff, and she's just telling me I'm not supposed to be in here. Am I misunderstanding what "Any Crime" means? Because I would think this would mean she doesn't care whether I trespass or not. If it makes any difference, I'm on PS3, with only Hearthfire as DLC. 68.231.137.169 18:48, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Any Crime means that are willing to commit any crime at your command. I can confirm that this issue isn't just with you, I've seen it before a few times with various followers, but I cannot find a clear cause of this issue. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:48, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
