Prerequisite Quest?[edit]

I returned to Fort Dawnguard after rescuing Dexion Evicus. I spoke with Sorine Jurard and she tells me to ask Isran about recruiting Florentius Baenius.

The problem is that Isran does not say anything about Florentius. Any explanation? Maybe a prerequisite of this quest is to complete before another Dawnguard quests? (for example Chasing Echoes, Seeking Disclosure?)

This is a specific question about the walkthrough of this quest.

In my experience, I was able to receive and complete this quest before even completing Prophet. So you definitely shouldn't have to do Chasing Echoes or any other later quests. I'm not sure what the exact conditions are, however. ABCface 13:01, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Do you need to do a certain number of "Ancient Technology" quests before Sorine Jurard tells you about Florentius Baenius ? — Unsigned comment by 80.214.8.110 (talk) at 20:26 on 8 September 2012‎
It appears that you need to complete Skyrim:Prophet_(Dawnguard) first. - 24.18.47.87 22:12, 23 September 2012 (GMT)
Once again, I was able to receive and complete this quest before even completing Prophet. So you definitely shouldn't have to do Chasing Echoes or any other later quests. (To clarify, I had started Prophet, but not completed it. That still doesn't tell us the exact conditions, but it definitely does mean that completing Prophet is not required.) — ABCface 23:34, 23 September 2012 (GMT)
I have my doubts about this. I did 12 Gunmar quests and one Isran, but they kept sending me for Gunmar whenever I offered my help. Tired, I went and finished the Prophet quest, and afterwards the very first thing Sorine does is send me to fetch Florentius. Maybe it's just my luck, but this appears to support the notion that completing Prophet is in fact required. Maybe it's a patch thing? I have all expansion DLCs, official and unofficial patches. --181.47.46.132 21:14, 19 February 2013 (GMT)
It seems like Prophet does need to be started, but it doesn't need to be completed yet. I tried to track down the specific stage in the CK, but got lost amongst all the scripts, stages, topics, dialogs and everything else. Whoever designed the quest framework must have really loved mazes as a child. --97.73.64.153 20:26, 2 March 2013 (GMT)
That is correct, the exact conditions are: Prophet needs to be started and Devion Exius must have been rescued and arrived at the Dawnguard. If this has happened, Sorine Jurard will give the quest "Bolstering the ranks". Still ABCface is right: Prophet does not need to be completed further. Source: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Bolstering_the_Ranks I just tried it and can confirm that this works. 2.244.48.50 10:34, 13 September 2013 (GMT)

() Tracing this through in the CK, this quest is triggered at stage 60 of Prophet, which means that Dexion doesn't actually have to have been rescued yet, just that you've been pointed to Forebears' Holdout. At that point, you should be able to talk to Sorine. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:38, 25 October 2013 (GMT)

Crossbow Mount Bug[edit]

Moved from article:

  • If you activate a crossbow-mount trap while you have an enchanted crossbow in your inventory, it is possible for it to be mounted in the trap and for it to lose it's enchantments, becoming a regular crossbow again (Xbox 360 version)

This really doesn't have much to do with the quest itself, in my opinion. It might be more relevant to the place page? Moving it here for input on further action. — ABCface 04:07, 25 February 2013 (GMT)

Ruunvald Excavation[edit]

When I got the task of finding Florentius from Isran I went with a follower from Dawnguard. We got to Ruunvald and it said I needed a key. Where is said key found? Nowhere on the Ruunvald site does it say anything about a key. — Unsigned comment by Baldy56 (talkcontribs) at 16:49 on 19 July 2013

This happened to me, too. I followed the quest marker up the hills off the path and somehow went straight to the backdoor, which is locked. The key can be found in the last room of Ruunvald (if I remember correctly Minorne carries it) and is only needed for the short way out of the place.2.244.48.50 10:40, 13 September 2013 (GMT)

Starting the quest after "Touching the Sky"[edit]

There's no need to use console commands to go to stage 20 of the quest. After Isran tells you he's gonna talk to everybody, you can talk to him before he calls them and he will tell you about Florentius. I still have to see if the quest ends normally even if the dawnguards are at Castle Volkihar, though. Cridus (talk) 16:36, 26 August 2013 (GMT)

Ok, talking to Isran and asking him about Florentius before he calls everybody skips that part (I think, but I'm pretty sure) and as long as you don't go near him again, he won't tell you to meet them at Castle Volkihar, so everybody stays in the castle and you can go to find Florentius without any problem. Possibility to save charmed vigilants[edit]

Is it possible to save vigilants by pickpocketing staff of Ruunvald from Minorne? I didn't try yet because it is very difficult to do so. 198.168.48.223 17:57, 20 December 2013 (GMT)

Haven't tried that, but I do know that the huskies don't automatically die after slaying Minore, and will become friendly.--149.160.118.51 20:36, 3 January 2014 (GMT)
The staff has a 0% chance of being taken, and using the paralyze pickpocket trick results in no change. Outright murdering her results in all the Vigilants dropping dead.--216.186.154.167 00:23, 28 January 2014 (GMT)
Pickpocketing the staff is possible (65% chance it said, but it took four or five tries until it worked), but it had no effect.
It is possible to talk to Florentius, though not to unlock his cell, once all of the room's remaining occupants are friendly.
One way to achieve this is to use the Bend Will shout so that it hits all three enemies (when they are properly aligned),
or to kill one or two charmed vigilants and then use Bend Will on Minorne and any remaining Vigilant.
This makes it possible to talk to Florentius.
By speeding through the dialogue sequence, it can be completed faster than it takes Minorne to recover from the Bend Will,
completing the quest. The charmed vigilants stay alive that way (except two, maybe).
Even though you did not unlock his cell, after a while Florentinus shows up at Fort Dawnguard.

Red Halo effect bug[edit]

Tried to feed on the bodies of dead charmed vigilants while in werewolf form. This resulted in an amusing glitch: my werewolf acquired the same 'red halo' effect around the head as the charmed vigilants had while alive. Furthermore, the effect became visually stronger with each charmed vigilant consumed.Beholder (talk) 16:14, 28 April 2014 (GMT)

Florentius hostility and bounty[edit]

Florentius is hostile in my current playthrough. I have a bounty in Haafingar of 2500, no other current active bounties. Possibly the bounty is the reason though. --Morrolan (talk) 18:22, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Isran's dialogue is missing[edit]

I just wrapped up "Prophet" and started "Seeking Disclosure" (so I'm nowhere near finishing "Touching the Sky"). Sorine gave me the quest to rescue Florentius, all right, but when I go to talk to Isran about him, he doesn't have the dialogue option to continue the quest. --Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 02:35, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
