Random hostilities[edit]

I'm pretty sure this was related to this quest. After killing the witches and going to Riverwood, all citizens(but not guards) inside were hostile. Similarly, everyone in Dragonsreach attacked me the moment I stepped inside, but NPCs in city itself were acting normally. Uthgerd the Unbroken attacked Aela at the Jorrvaskr stairs and other people in the city turned against her.

Hovewer at the funeral - which has Jarluf, Irileth and other people from Dragonsreach in attendance - everything was fine, and after the next quest started the random hostilities stopped both in Dragonsreach and Riverwood. Weird, but everything turned out to be okay. Except for Ulthgerd. 178.183.233.70 12:01, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Quest won't start[edit]

I've done "The Silver Hand" and the two radiant quests afterwards, and the quest just doesn't want to start. No one gives my "work", the Huntress never informs me that Kodlak may need me... any ideas what to do? — Unsigned comment by 46.249.145.229 (talk) at 16:23 on 14 December 2011‎

I have the same issue. setstage C04 commands don't fix the problem. Does anyone have a solution? — Unsigned comment by 74.198.164.121 (talk) at 17:11 on 5 November 2012‎

The next quest will not start[edit]

I editted the notes to show that no matter how many heads you bring, it doesn't matter. There is still a chance that the quest will not proceed.

What is going on with this quest, I spend all this time on it and it won't let me even dump the witches heads. I can't get the next quest to start to avenge the companion's leader death and now I'm stuck carry 20 pound worth of dead witch heads around with me? To top it off I'm stuck being a werewolf forever. Bethesda games is still the glitcheyest platform I've ever seen. I hate this crap, spend money on a game and it won't play even close to right. Sick of this after both Fallout games acted the same way and now Skyrim also. If anyone has a fix for this I'd love to hear it. I really don't want to start a new game all over again because of this bug!! — Unsigned comment by Hank382 (talkcontribs) at 10:02 on 26 December 2011‎
Even worse, for me Warmaiden's is locked for good because Ulfberth War-Bear is standing outside Jorrvaskr taking in the scene after the Silver Hand invade. — Unsigned comment by 64.132.59.117 (talk) at 14:21 on 18 January 2012‎

glitch prevents the quest from proceeding.[edit]

When returning to Jorrvaskr (with one witch head or all) there is a glitch that will prevent the quest from proceeding. HELP!!!!!!! — Unsigned comment by 24.237.52.92 (talk) at 08:10 on 27 December 2011‎

Possible workaround for Helm of Winterhold quest collision[edit]

When a friend of mine had this problem tonight, I was able to get the C05 quest going by resetting and stopping the Helm of Winterhold quest ...

resetquest favor158
stopquest favor158

... and then giving the Purity of Revenge quest a push ...

setstage c05 1

... which started the quest.

I have no idea if this permanently breaks the Helm quest, and since it's not my save, I won't put too much energy into this. Will report back if my friend reports back. Anyone want to verify / check this workaround?

Another possible workaround for Helm of Winterhold quest collision
The problem with this quest only exist when the Helm's location coincides with the dungeon for the next Companion's Quest which is the Driftshade Refuge. The helm and the fragments occupy the same space, if the Helm is still there, the fragments can't appear breaking the Companions Questline. Clearing the dungeon to get the helm will also break the Questline. Completing the Helm of Winterhold Quest doesn't require you to clear the dungeon. Try to get the helm without killing everybody in Driftshade Refuge. So long as the dungeon doesn't have the cleared tag once you are out, you can go ahead and finish Blood's Honor and the next quest of the Companions Questline will start normally. — Unsigned comment by 99.9.102.138 (talk) at 17:48 on 11 February 2012‎

Dialogue option, "Vilkas says it was a curse laid upon the companions."[edit]

Anyone know when Vilkas says this? He never said it to my character, wondering what I missed. Also, Kodlaks speech is incredibly dumb. You're all werewolves because you drank werewolf blood, no matter what happened 200 years ago. But that's video game writing for you.--RumblePen 08:35, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

I got a sabre cat... not a wolf spirit[edit]

Revealing the wolf spirit, gave me a sabre cat spirit. It said wolf spirit, but it was a sabre cat that was as tough as one (I'm low leveled). Glitch? — Unsigned comment by 99.184.245.227 (talk) at 02:02 on 2 August 2012

The only time you should see a Sabre Cat Guardian Spirit is during Kyne's Sacred Trials. Robin Hoodtalk 02:53, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Not all the hagravens have loot.[edit]

The article says that each room off the main one has a hagraven and some loot. The hagraven to the southwest had no loot to guard. Does anyone else encounter this? Or am I missing something, which is very unlikely since I've scoured all of the little pond, peeked at the top of the waterfall, and every where else in the chamber?--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 05:58, 7 December 2012 (GMT)

Bug Confirmation[edit]

I noticed that one bug I had experienced was listed as unconfirmed in the bugs section (the one about the Hagravens freezing into a reference pose when you take the heads), and I found a video here that shows the glitch. That's on the PC version, but I have experienced the same glitch on Xbox 360. I'm not sure how site policy works with this kind of thing, but I hope that helps confirm it.--24.140.113.127 23:14, 14 April 2013 (GMT)

Thank you. I will mark it as confirmed. --Xyzzy Talk 00:51, 25 April 2013 (GMT)

glitch wont lt me start quest.[edit]

I just finished Aela's quests. She told me that Kodlok needed to talk to me. I got there and he wont finish the sentence. I cant start the quest because he wont finish the sentence. There is something wrong with it!!!!! what do i do??!! — Unsigned comment by 69.35.192.61 (talk) at 23:32 on 9 June 2013

answer to my own question!
okay, just sit down in the chair by him. Its seems to work. — Unsigned comment by 69.35.192.61 (talk) at 23:34 on 9 June 2013

Bugs Cleanup[edit]

  • Upon finishing Blood's Honor, there is a chance that the next quest, Purity of Revenge, will not start. See that quest's bugs section for more information on possible workarounds.|USKP|1.3.0}}
  • Taking the head of one of the Glenmoril Witches may result in the witch getting stuck in a reference pose as soon as the loot screen is closed.
  • When starting this quest, the map marker for finding Kodlak Whitemane will show up as the back door of Jorrvaskr, instead of the downstairs quarters.
  • When returning to Jorrvaskr (with one witch head or all) there is a glitch that will prevent the quest from proceeding.
No. 1 is not related to this article, so doesn't belong here. No. 2 is a very common "issue" with all creatures and NPCs that have th animation, so doesn't deserve special mention. No. 3 has been unconfirmed for a long time and so is removed. No. 4 is far too vague and I have no idea how it could be confirmed when there is no issue specified to check on. Glenmoril Witch Head[edit]

After the quest is complete the Glenmoril Witch Heads lose quest item status and have weight again. If you drop and pick up even one head after that, the whole stack regains it's quest item status and become stuck and weightless. I would assume if you only have a couple of heads then you get rid of them by curing Vilkas, Farkas, and/or yourself. I saved beforehand and it's easily repeatable. AutoPilot (talk) 14:52, 3 February 2014 (GMT)

Another Bug Starting Purity of Revenge[edit]

I have an issue where the quest plays out as normal until I enter Jorrvaskr after collecting the witch heads. Vilkas isn't there and I can't find him anywhere in Jorrvaskr. I can spawn him with console commands and I get the dialog to end the quest and start Purity of Revenge. However, he's unarmed and won't move. When I leave Jorrvaskr or fast travel he appears right behind me but when I run forward he just stands there in the combat ready stance.

Notes on follower[edit]

When I returned with the heads, my follower was not dismissed. In fact, Serana was happy to help Vilkas and I exterminate the Silver Hand. 71.61.174.190 22:26, 25 September 2015 (UTC)Imbalance
