Quest Structure

4 tiered quests, all from same guy and all the same name. Better Structure for this? — Unsigned comment by 70.63.86.17 (talk) at 09:46 on 23 November 2011

I agree. a lot of quests on this wiki have limited info.I know its early, but at the moment the wiki is almost useless. 86.178.73.8 11:38, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
I personally think that all four quests should be placed on one page. Although they are technically separate, they're pretty much one quest. Separating them just makes it a little too confusing. I will start with something in a sandbox. elliot (talk) 19:17, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
I've thought the same thing, but keep in mind that each of the four quests has as much info as a regular quest. Combining all four could make for a very long, and potentially hard to read, page. It's worth a shot trying to come up with something though, because I don't know if the current arrangement is the best. Chris3145 00:46, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Making a table or summary on the primary Arniel's Endeavor page while still maintaining the four quest pages is also a potential idea. Chris3145 00:54, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I went ahead and made a rough merge in my sandbox. I think it works. It obviously needs some more images and some smoothing out, but I think it will help the reader understand the quest a little better. elliot (talk) 05:21, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

No keening

When Arniel disappeared, Keening didn't show up, it looks like it disappeared with him. Did this happen to anyone else? --DelosFandas 04:44, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

This also happened to me on Xbox. — Unsigned comment by 76.25.38.224 (talk) at 18:36 on 28 January 2012
Check in the room below. In my game, Keening glitched through the floor and ended up on the floor in the room below when Arniel vanished. Xyzzy 15:58, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Warped Soul Gems

I got two warped soul gems from the last box, but it said to return to Arniel so I went to him, yet the quest could not be completed. — Unsigned comment by 24.33.141.151 (talk) at 01:02 on 26 November 2011

Bugs

I got a quest update for roasting the gem in the first convector (in the storehouse outsize of Mzulft). I then proceeded to one of the quest markers in the north-west part of Skyrim, finding a convector sitting all by itself outdoors. Roasting the gem there did nothing. I must have roasted for about a minute. The quest marker was still there and I had not gotten any quest update. Thinking that maybe I needed to do it in a convector near the first one, I went back to Mzulft and roasted the gem in the convector inside the dungeon proper. No joy.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, I noted that after the first roasting, I advanced from quest stage 10 (via 20 and 30) to stage 16. I would have expected stage 13. But the quest description on the main page says only two roastings needed. Is stage 13 unused? Tageborg 18:15, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

While confirmation by somebody else would be nice, I tested this thoroughly by going to EVERY convector, heating them all with the warped soul gem inside. Nothing helped. The workaround is to place the warped soul gem in a convector, open the console and type setstage MGRArniel03 20. THEN heat the convector. — Unsigned comment by Tageborg (talkcontribs) at 13:18 on 2 December 2011
Regarding the fire perk bug on the main page: I had the perk and got to the last stage after the first heating. But then again, I'm not certain you need to heat it three times, given the description of the quest stating that only two heatings is needed. It is not always necessary to pass through all quest stages. Tageborg 15:34, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
There is also mini bug with quest log when you give the soul gem to Arniel and complete the quest but objective "Deliver the soul gem to Arniel" remains unfinished. Any way to complete this objective? Console command not working for finished quests. — Unsigned comment by Tartarus (talkcontribs) at 18:09 on 3 December 2011
Did you get duplicate gems as per the bug on the main page? I'm thinking it may be related. Tageborg 15:34, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm they are not related. I did not get duplicate gems, but my quest log shows the objective uncompleted. Had no effect on the quest though. EmmBee 18:06, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

() I'm having the same problem. Heating up the first time went without problem, but I don't get a quest update for heating up a second time. I also tested several convectors. [Galatthar]

Thanks. Tageborg 19:43, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
Ditto. Saved before using the first one. I have both Augmented flames, and it skipped right to the last convector. Went to a second convector, nothing. Reloaded save and this time just used short bursts (don't know if that helped) and got 2 gems. Took both gems to a second convector and put them both in. It updated to the final stage (with 2 gems) but Arniel had no dialog with one or both gems. I had multiple saves with different combinations of one or two gems so I tried many combinations including ignoring the updates and using 4 convectors. I'm guessing that this quest HAS to be done before you have the augmented flames. I'll play on from before the first convector in case Bethesta fixes this. — Unsigned comment by Philbert (talkcontribs) at 03:02 on 17 December 2011
If stage 2 quest is Ilinalta's Deep and The Black Star quest has already been done the stage is not properly reset, even after more than 30 days in-game time between the two. The bodies are ash and cannot be interacted with and the pointer is to the side of a chair next to the Enchanter but nothing is there. The Objects (potions, food, chests, etc.) are reset as are harvestable items. Philbert 01:08 09 January 2012
Same if it's in Morvunskar and ?you've done Sanguine's quest?, but I also had Meridia's Beacon there, so it might be that. Or it might be that Sanguine's wandering through there killing everyone to pass the time, or .... Whatever the cause, it's got the same problem as yours: a quest arrow pointing at an empty space next to an ash pile, and a permanently broken quest (unless you console-hack it). Aliana 04:20, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

() Could it perhaps be which convector you use? Every time I use the ones at Mzulft, I get the "final convector" bug and the quest won't advance without the console.Xaa (talk) 20:24, 25 September 2012 (GMT)

I experienced the "final convector/quest stalls" bug on the XBox 360 as of patch 1.8. However, I did find a workaround. I ran through this 3 times to confirm the workaround, but YMMV. 1) I never used the Mzulft convectors. I used (in order) 1- Shors Stone, 2-South of Ivarstead, 3-Across river from Drudach Redoubt. I equipped the Convector spell in my left hand and Steadfast Ward in my right. Used the flame until the quest updated. I do have the Augmented Flames Destruction perk, but I had no issues. I didn't try any of the other convectors or mess with the order - but it seems like the Mzulft convectors are definitely bugged, at least in my game. Chicagowiz (talk) 13:40, 2 December 2012 (GMT)
I got around this bug by doing 2 things: A: Drop the Staff of Tandil if you still have it after completing part 2 BEFORE beginning part 3. B: Heat with short bursts instead of one long stream. Side notes: I noticed that on the times that I was glitching, the quest would update as soon as I opened the convector and not wait for me to actually retrieve the gem. I went to Ruins of Bthalft first. Xenix47 (talk) 00:24, 22 January 2013 (GMT)

Glitch

There is a glitch with this quest where if the second convector doesn't heat up,the quest will stall and you will not be able to complete it. We will have to wait for bethesda to patch the problem. 96.42.21.232 07:52, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Same problem

I also had the same problem with this. I recieved the quest to and heat the gem. I went to the farthest west side of the map because 2 of the spots were so close. I did the first burn with no problem. I had the spell in both hands. but i only casted with one hand. i then walked up to the mountain to the second convector and put it and and it did not work. My second burn was also listed as my final burn before it was finished. Thinking that maybe certain convectors were already broken because i remembered arniel stating heating the convectors breaks the equiment. so i went to all the remaining sites and burned the gem for about 30 seconds on each and still same problem. I cant proceed in the quest. feel free to email with a solution. masondwilfong@yahoo. I am also playing on the xbox 360s. Not sure if that matters or not. Im going to try to go back to the first site i burned the gem to see if there was a duplication glitch or try to reburn. I will repost if i find solution. good luck — Unsigned comment by 66.44.69.177 (talk) at 09:56 on 10 December 2011

Going back to the first convector that i placed it in did not work. no duplicate, no fix. — Unsigned comment by 66.44.69.177 (talk) at 10:01 on 10 December 2011
Sorry to say, the fix I know of is only available on the PC, as it requires access to the console. Perhaps you can bring this matter up in the BEthesda forums? There's a section for XBOX issues there. Tageborg 10:20, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
I went to the bethesda forums and made a post located here. http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1311468-arniels-endeavor-quest-bugs-cant-complete/ register and post there. keep thread bumped. — Unsigned comment by 66.44.69.177 (talk) at 10:39 on 10 December 2011
When I first got this quest I went to the Mzulft Ruins to use the convectors located there, much like everyone else, after heating the soul gem in the first convector it glitched on me by jumping to the 3rd/final convector and I could not heat the gem a second time no matter how long I heated it for. However after reloading the game and beginning the quest again I avoided the actual ruins and instead visited three of the random convector locations. This time I was able to heat the gem all three times without any real problems. Although after heating the gem for the 2nd time a quest message came up directing me to return the gem to Arniel as well as a message directing me to heat the gem for a third and final time. Ignoring the return to Arniel request, I continued to the final random convector and heated the gem for the last time, after which, no message prompt came up requesting me to return to Arniel but the directional marker on the map for this quest had now returned to Winterhold and all convector location markers had disappeared. I returned to Arniel and delivered the gem and successfully completed the quest. 121.219.246.60 07:39, 30 April 2013 (GMT)

Bug

There is a bug with this quest, where if you find Keening before starting it, it will lock up at the 'Find the Courier" step: the courier's body is empty and the stage will not complete upon finding him. The console command "SetStage MGRArniel04 30" will solve it on the PC. — Unsigned comment by 88.162.105.16 (talk) at 17:32 on 10 December 2011

I believe this happens because after you've completed stage 3 of Arniel's quest, the dead courier is planted in Mara's Eye Pond. When you visit the pond, even if you haven't started stage 4, Keening is there for the taking. IMO the courier shouldn't be planted till you've started the 4th stage, but whatever, I guess. (Thank you for the solution!) Robert Cannelin (talk) 12:31, 27 May 2014 (GMT)

Bug (2)

There doesn't seem to be any connection between the two quests. I just finished this, but had not done Onmund's quest(s) at all, and the staff was still in my inventory when all was said and done. The bug is probably just a scripting error in which the object should have been, but wasn't removed from inventory upon telling Enthir that you had the staff for him. It can probably be verified once the Creation Kit becomes available in a couple or three weeks. Marstinson 06:15, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Same here. The quest advanced but Enthir never claimed the staff. However, its status in my inventory was changed from a quest item to a normal item and I could easily get rid of it.

i had found and looted the courier before getting the quest and so keening was stuck in my inventory and the quest wouldn't advance past "find the courier". I equipped keening, activated it on the weapons rack and took it back and it advanced the quest to "deliver the package to arniel". so it apparently worked. — Unsigned comment by 72.34.181.166 (talk) at 22:00 on 25 April 2012

Map Marker Bug

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but after obtaining this quest, the overland map marker pointed to a place in the middle of nowhere. I realized that it is the correct spot for the map marker, but only underground. I needed to go to Southfringe Sanctum - when I did finally arrive at the spot the staff was, sure enough, I was exactly where the above-ground marker said I sound be, only underground, inside Southfringe. — Unsigned comment by 24.211.6.34 (talk) at 18:49 on 17 December 2011

Level/prerequisite quest requirement?

I've tried to go directly to the college and start the quest, but he refuses to start it. Probably I need to be a higher level or complete part of the main quest or mage's guild main line. (Xbox) — Unsigned comment by 24.125.157.114 (talk) at 00:56 on 19 December 2011

I can't get this quest at level 59, currently on Hitting the Books and Diplomatic Immunity quests. (ZekunD 03:10, 24 December 2011 (UTC))
He gave me the first two quests (A and B) after finishing "Hitting the Books". The dialog option was still gray but he offered the quest. After quest B, he won't give me the third quest. (ZekunD 01:53, 25 December 2011 (UTC))
I think its related to you standing in the College, and as such how far you've progressed through the Colleges quests, although I've never been able to test this (I only got to the second quest before I started a new quest)--Ohnoitsmangofett 07:04, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
I've been digging around and I found that Under Saarthal cannot be an active quest, and that you must have a rank of Evoker within the College (however they never tell you this). The next three parts aren't that simple... There are GetVMQuestVariables that aren't easily defined. elliot (talk) 07:28, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
I could only complete up to stage 2. Stage 3 was only available after finishing up the Eye of Magnus quest chain. I tried at each step of the chain where possible; its not possible during certain stages to acquire or turn in any college quests. I also tried to gain all favors from every NPC that would hand out quests before hand such as letting apprentices try out their spells on me, gathering books, etc. Completing those minor quests did not allow me to proceed to past stage 2. 75.80.97.155 08:48, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm on Revealing the Unseen in the College questline, but I can confirm what the above person said about part 3 and 4 not showing up. It's good to know that I haven't encountered some bug where they will never show up; I just need to be Arch-Mage in order to get them.--75.207.184.35 20:16, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I can confirm on PC (1.8 Beta) that Stage 3 opens only after completing Eye of Magnus. I was hoping to combine trips to Mzulft, but even waiting a full week he doesn't have the quest dialog option. Go back to the save before waiting a week, complete the quest and BAM dialog or part 3 is there. 76.178.148.141 16:16, 4 November 2012 (GMT)
The game data confirms this. Part3 is started by Part2 in stage 200, if stage 200 of The Eye of Magnus is set. Alternatively it is started by stage 200 of The Eye of Magnus, if stage 200 of Part 2 is set.--Alfwyn (talk) 16:26, 4 November 2012 (GMT)

The Staff

From the article it is unclear which staff is to be retrieved. In my play, I got a Staff of Tandil. Can someone verify if this is always this staff? Quest item status is removed during further quests, probably when Arniel's second quest is completed by giving him the gem, but I've noticed the staff was droppable after completing Arniel's third quest. /Sergio/87.228.24.249 17:40, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Bah, just after I've described the bug with stuck staff in detail, it is merged and proposed for deletion! =D 87.228.24.249 19:30, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
The talk pages will be merged as well. But that's the staff I got when I played through it. elliot (talk) 19:32, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Reward of Part 2

When I give Arniel the Warped soul gem, he takes it and Part 2 is completed. Game informs me that Warped soul gem has been removed, but when the quest is completed (part 2), I get 8 weight more to my inventory and I have no idea what it is. Game doesn't inform me about it. Also can't find it in inventory.— Unsigned comment by 84.248.192.31 (talk) at 14:32 on 7 January 2012

Found it. Staff of Tandil loses its quest-item status. And therefore its weight is added.— Unsigned comment by 84.248.192.31 (talk) at 14:41 on 7 January 2012

When does he actually give this?

Everyone else is giving me favours, but he just says no I can't help him when asking if there's business he wants taken care of.NickTyrong 06:06, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Anyone? on 360, and he's not giving the quest.NickTyrong 02:52, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Hello? I mean he won't give it. Is it the time of day that's the issue? I have to complete other favours first, what?NickTyrong 19:36, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
At a minimum you need to have completed Under Saarthal but I rather suspect that there are other preconditions as well. — DryHumour 20:16, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
I should probably add that Under Saarthal is a pre-req for part one; part two occurs about three days after part one; part three requires the completion of The Eye of Magnus; and part four follows about three days after part three. — DryHumour 20:26, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
Still nothing, and I had completed that already, of course. Looking up though,s eems others had this issue. Seems to be you must be a certain rank. Kinda wish they had Morrowind/Oblivion's style for THAT. What rank am I? Why not CHECK?NickTyrong 00:18, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
He never gives me the quest either. (I'm on XBox 360.) I never managed to give him the stuff I found Under Sarthaal. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Anyway, I'm finishing Staff of Magnus now, so if he hasn't asked me yet, I supposed he's not going to. Greg Hullender 05:03, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Similar Problem

There is supposed to be a PC console command: setstage MGRArniel03 20 that is supposed to heat up the convector if you get caught in that bug. For me, I was able to heat up 2 convectors but the second, it game me multiple warped gems (PC command: player.remove item 0006a10a 1 to remove the duplicates). But after I got the multiple warped gems, that same bug does not allow you to heat up any more in any more of the convectors. That command setstage MGRArniel03 20 is supposed to fix that and allow you to heat them up in the other convectors, but on my PC this did not fix anything. It keeps telling me I completed heating in all the convectors but the quest dialog to return the gem to Arniel never opens. Maybe a new patch stopped that command from working, not sure. But the quest remains open as in progress. There is no way to finish it if setstage MGRArniel03 20 does not work. — Unsigned comment by 69.224.223.35 (talk)

Final reward: power of the Arniel Shade

It turns out that in my game the shade cast only Sparks (it seems dual-casted). But I started mage-line quests very early and thus meet Arniel at low level. Does the Shade cast more powerful spells if your meet Arniel at higher level?

Also it makes sense to remark that if you double-cast the spell with Dual Casting perk it lasts 132 seconds. The shade is completely immune for any type of attack and thus even casting Sparks can damage up to 1000 HP for its live span.--89.23.164.143 16:33, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, this spell does not profit from twin souls perk (tested on PC). Oh, and he seems to always casting sparks. Got him with lvl 52. Because of the fact that he can't be harmed as far as I know, he would be too powerful with more devastating spells. By the way, this spell could be the only conjuration spell that is dual cast like a master spell, but without the few seconds of charging time beforehand (maybe someone could write this information in good english to the spell-page). Also you cannot cancelling the spell by "sheathing" your hands. Paramania 23:02, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, actually my primary use of that spell was to terminate all thralls and summons to pick up stored loot. However, you can summon or reanimate second summon/thrall after the Shade activated. So first summon the Shade and then another minion.--89.23.180.18 11:26, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Keening Bug work around for PS3

I aquired the Keening prior to starting stage 4 of Arniel's Endeavor. So when I went to retrieve it from the courior it was missing (because it was already in my inventory) and the mission wouldn't progess. Due to a bug that let's you put quest weapons on Weapons Racks; I went to Honeyside (a house you can buy and furnish in Riften) and place the Keening on the weapons rack. When I took it off and it was added back to my inventory, the quest updated and I was able to "Deliver the package to Arniel". NOTE: (1) This should work with any weapons rack, but I didn't go testing this on every rack in Skyrim. (2) This worked after the 1.4 Update. — Unsigned comment by 24.237.64.99 (talk) at 03:32 on 14 February 2012

This is noted at the top of Skyrim:Quest Items, but yes, this is a very useful glitch. I used this to finish Onmund's Request, but it can be used for any quest weapon you may have. ?• JATalk 04:03, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Could finish only after main Mage quest

It seems to me that Arniel gives his 3rd part only if you finished Mzuft and reported to Saven but then you automatically forced to finish the main Mage quest because not only Arniel but all members of College don't provide any services or misc quests (including training an master quests). Thus you can finish his quest only after becoming the Arch-Mage.--89.23.179.29 02:11, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Part 4 - random item incorrectly identified as Keening, but unable to turn into Arniel

[PC] I encountered a bug where at Bruca's Leap Redoubt, I looted a chest inside the cave and one of the items, "Dwarven Warhammer of Thunderbolts", has been incorrectly flagged as the quest item for Part 4 of this quest. In other words, the game thinks this randomly generated item is "Keening". The quest has progressed, to stage 30, including the notification popup, but the item cannot be turned into Arniel for completion of the next stage. In addition, the item is flagged as a quest item, so cannot be dropped, although weapon-racking does at least enable it to be removed from inventory.

I have tried resetting the quest back to stage 20, but cannot seem to find the courier anywhere else, including where the marker sends me. The only way I have been able to fix this is via the console by giving myself Keening (player.additem 0006A13C 1).

This occurred with update 7, game version 1.5.24.0. The ID of the item was 000ACC89 (which is not Keening's ID).

Attacks the Warped Soul Gem with another weapon

Just throwing it out there that Arniel doesn't always attack the gem with Keening. Since he has a tendency to attack physically, but starts with no weapons, if he is in a combat situation and can see a weapon lying around, he'll often take the weapon. Once he has such a weapon, even after he gets Keening, he might still use it against the Warped Gem instead of Keening, though other than that, the scripts still proceed as normal, and Keening still drops at the end of the quest.

I think I added this to the notes section some time ago, but I can't find it anymore, so I can only assume someone reversed my edit. But if anyone wants to test this out, or re-add this information into the article, feel free. 98.165.113.110 06:23, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Part 4: Can player character advance Arniel's research?

After completing Part 4 of Arniel's Endeavor, you're left with Keening in an uncharged state, and the Warped Soul Gem can't be taken, even though the "Take" prompt is displayed on-screen. Just wondering, is it possible to recharge Keening and strike the Warped Soul Gem yourself, perhaps unlocking some further content?Evil-i (talk) 18:30, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

If it was, it would be noted on the page. —Legoless (talk) 18:33, 9 October 2012 (GMT)
After extensively attacking the gem, including before and after Arniel does (through killing him, giving myself Keening, etc.) I have determined that no, nothing further happens. And then I used the creation kit dealie to check and see that no, you can't do it. That probably would've saved me time. 74.134.243.62 23:32, 28 February 2013 (GMT)

Lore implications

This quest seems to confirm the concensus on the Mystery of the Dwemer as detailed in the game Morrowind and deconstructed by fan work, specifically the Final Report to Trebonius. Apart from it being a riddle solved backwards as we know the answer, MK told us the Report is correct, Arniel's endevour strikes close to re-enforcing that interpretation of events. He used a warped soul-gem and not the Heart of a god, he only had one of the Tools and it was depleted and broken (as evidenced by the 'mortal wound' not applying and its general condition and effectiveness) but he apparently succeeded in uncreating himself and binding his essence to the nearest mythically active recepticle, the Dovakhiin. (Who absorbs souls/ essence as a matter of course. Given, souls of a dragon but its a mythically shorter leap to take than any other.)

One may postulate that if Arniel had been more proficient in securing Tools, Source and Incantation the spell given to the Dovakhiin would have been: Summon Breton Race.

While the nature of the site is to exclude non-game material this goes to show once more that the lore or story of TES can not be captured from in-game data alone. It is clear there is a sort of out-game meta, bible or source that developers call on, given the interconnectedness of lore to its tidbits. (See the re-appearance of Canticle Bark in Dawnguard)

Since we unequivocally know what happened to the Dwemer, because the writer of the mystery told us what happened, can we not include this information somehow or somewhere? Possibly the creation of a new section is warranted, one defined as 'Meta'.

It could include released inside information, such as on the Dwemer, pocket guides, pieces of the puzzle that fans put together and that have been confirmed to be actual plot-hubs such as the Towers. --Merari (talk) 08:39, 1 December 2012 (GMT)

I for one wholeheartedly support the plan to add "meta" data about the Dwemer. Whether to this article, or to Dwemer or a non-Lore article, I'm not picky. I've gone searching for information on their disappearance after playing through Arniel's quest and it seems there is a *ton* of non-game information about it, but none of it exists on this (or any) wiki. Lots of people talking about it, but nobody explaining it. If the information exists, it should be available somewhere here for the curious like me. If nothing else, add it to the talk page!--75.70.230.149 06:13, 3 July 2013 (GMT)
MK has no bearing on this... this is for information from official sources. MK is, for all intents and purposes, a fan at this point. Any of the stuff he makes up isn't really doing more than amusing people who wish to read it. He has exactly zero creative control over the franchise and thus, nothing he says is necessarily true or useful in any way. Jeancey (talk) 06:22, 3 July 2013 (GMT)

Glitch in Part 3

Is there an Xbox fix? Even on the official forums I only see things about PC commands and save file transfers. But I'm on Xbox and I'm stuck on the "put it in the final convector", and can't progress.-Zydrate[][] 17:36, 4 July 2013 (GMT)

Collecting barrels?

I've got the German version of Skyrim and the quest tells be to collect 10 "Fässer" (which translates to "Barrels" in english) for the first step. I collected 10 dwemer cogs, thinking it was a typing bug but it didn't update and Arniel didn't accepted the cogs. Because Barrels aren't able to be picked up, is there a way to continue normally?

EDIT: Apparently Dwemer Cogs do work, but I had to collect them twice. Still, should it be noted that you are told to collect "Fässer"? NovaPixel (talk) 15:15, 4 September 2013 (GMT)

Sure. We've noted translation errors like that before (such as here) --AN|L (talk) 16:45, 4 September 2013 (GMT)

Arniel won't talk to me or take the Warped Gem (xbox)

I've obtained the staff for Enthir and exchanged it for the Warped Sould Gem. However, Arniel won't talk to me. He just keeps saying "I can't lose all my research. There has to be a way to save the college." every time I try to select him and progress the quest. I've gone back to an earlier save and went through and got the staff a second time. This has done nothing to fix the problem. Even when he is sleeping, I select him and he doesn't get out of bed. He just stays horizontal, opens his eyes, and says "I can't lose all my research. There has to be a way to save the college." — Unsigned comment by 69.145.43.64 (talk) at 00:16 on 8 December 2013

Hve you completed The Eye of Magnus, as it is a prerequisite for part 3 of this quest? Or is there any other event going on at the college at the moment? -- SarthesArai Talk 00:21, 8 December 2013 (GMT)

0=1???

When I equiped the spell that is used for heating the convectors, I decided to dual cast it for fun, but even though it says it costs 0, my magicka bar was draining. 0=0, not 0=1! Is this a glitch??? 75.170.127.127 15:44, 30 June 2014 (GMT)

According to the spell's page, the cost is 1pt/s so your magicka should be draining, so I'm not too sure what you mean by 0=0 and what your issue is. •WoahBro►talk 15:50, 30 June 2014 (GMT)
Well, the base cost is 1 magicka, so it's not technically a bug if the spell drains your magicka pool. While it shows up as having 0 cost in your screen, dual-casting increases the cost (220% I think) and thus likely increased it to 1 or 2. —<({QT>> 15:51, 30 June 2014 (GMT)

Radiant location problem

Received Ruunvald as a radiant location for the staff part of this quest chain. This location isn't accessible for me. The camp and mine don't even show up in my game. Is this a bug? — Unsigned comment by 71.237.147.35 (talk) at 05:59 on 12 February 2015 (GMT)

It might be. What platform are you playing? Do you have any mods or unofficial patches installed, and if so, could they interfere with this quest? —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:15, 12 February 2015 (GMT)

Stage 3 Warped Soul Gem Fix

Its been a while since I've visited these pages and was surprised the bug and fix was not defined better. I don't want to change the main page so I'm putting it here for those having problems since the fix is easy if a pain from a timing standpoint.

Bug - Failure to complete the final heating of the Warped Soul Gem and/or duplication of the Warped Soul Gem.

Fix(s) - (1) Do not add the Destruction: Augmented Flames perk until after this stage. (2) Do not use dual wielding when heating the convector (as noted on the main page.)

It seems the perk "overheats" the Warped Soul Gem and bugs the script, same with dual wielding. The fix and cause were identified back in early 2012 although the quest pages have been so heavily modified and merged since then I couldn't find a reference to those discussions. As far as I'm aware of this works on all platforms. Cheers! Philbert (talk) 14:38, 24 February 2015 (GMT)

I had the same bug/problem, but "overheat" gave me the idea to heat gently from distance - it work as a workaround! - bdt_guest — Unsigned comment by 92.246.23.233 (talk) at 22:27 on 31 March 2015 (GMT)

Request For Change to Bug List

I know templates are used now for most of the Wiki (or at least I think so because my recent changes or additions have been reverted without discussion and I'm too old to fight it) so I don't want to do a major change unless an admin says its OK.

Bug 1 and Bug 3 have the same cause. They should be listed one after the other to group them. It looks confusing and messy as is since both have the same cause (see below on why I think this is the case which is also my validation for grouping them.)

1) In some cases the Warped Soul Gem will get duplicated after heating it. This prevents further dialog with Arniel, thus making it impossible to complete the quest.

3) The quest can fail to update, getting stuck on "Place the warped soul gem into a final Convector". Dual/single casting, alternate Convectors does not remedy.

Both are caused by the same issue I noted above this post. The fix is the same for all platforms so no access to to CK or UESP are required. Feel free to verify first (I prefer this if possible.) I had this issue in multiple early (2011-2012) play-throughs until I read this fix on a early page before the quests were consolidated I think but I may have read it elsewhere on this site. Following those rules I have never had a issue. Recent testing I did with the Legendary version, which has the last patch included, showed I could bug the convectors and thus this quest every time by adding the perk or dual wielding right before the first "heating", reload from save, don't add perk or dual wield and all was good again. I'm making the change described above since no comments against it were made. Philbert (talk) 21:47, 8 March 2015 (GMT)
