Dialogue[edit]

If you speak to her prior to starting the related quest, she says:

"Travel cautiously. There is trouble in the air, and in the land."

Quest-Related Events[edit]

Once you've started Rusty Daggers, she'll greet you with:

"The winds bring us strange tidings. Fortunately, we can always find a way to cope."
Why did you hire these mercenaries to kill the harpies?
"The harpies came down the hillside and attacked our horses. I'd heard of a band of traveling fighers [sic] who were experts against the harpies, and sent for them.
We were lucky. They were nearby, and between contracts."
Tell me about your tribe.
"Our tribe's descended from an ancient race. We care for the horses, and they work hard for us. We often train steeds for others as well, which brings us goods in trade.
This may be a simple life, but it's one full of history."
What do you think of these men so far?
"They seem to work very hard, but without much progress, like foals. I'm sorry we didn't add a provision to the contract about timeliness."

After you helped the brothers, follow the quest marker back to Makar the Elder's cave. There you'll witness the following scene:

Makar the Elder: "Are you telling me you've made absolutely no progress on the contract we signed with you?"
Balin Remly: "It's Armel's fault. His stupid trap malfunctioned again."
Armel Remly: "It's not my fault! Those harpies are crafty! And bloodthirsty!"
Makar the Elder: "Is that why you reek? What is that smell?"
Bumnog: "The harpies! They're here! The scent lure on these two brought the whole flock down on us!"
Armel Remly: "We need to wash this stuff off before the harpies get us! To the pond!"
Makar the Elder: "Please, go with them. The villagers and I will hide from the beasts."

If you speak to her before going to the pond, she'll ask:

"What is going on? Why are the harpies attacking? You look like you can handle yourself, get out there and help."

If you speak to her after returning, but before speaking to Bumnog, she'll say:

"This is the strangest group I've ever hired."

After speaking to Bumnog, she'll say:

"You're the only one who isn't a member of this group. Perhaps you will speak truly. The contract specifies they must do the work promptly and effectively.
I'm not sure what happened, to be honest. Did they do anything worth paying for?"
You'd trust my opinion about such a thing?
"You're not a part of their group, as I said. I'm not trying to cheat them. I just want to know if they did what they said they would. Is their effort here today worth our hard-earned gold?"
To be honest, I helped them out quite a bit.
"If only we'd known, we could have hired you instead of them. I'm sure they mean well, but I've never seen such incompetence before!
We do not have much, but please take this as a token of our gratitude."
[Lie] Absolutely, this was their plan all along.
"I am pleased to hear this! When the harpies attacked our horses, we were desperate. They're as dear to us as our children.
We will gladly call on this group again should the harpies return."

If you agree to lie and save The Dagger's reputation, the following scene will play out:

Makar the Elder: "Your friend has vouched for your good work. Though your methods were unconventional, you greatly thinned the harpy flock."
Bumnog: "All in a day's work. We're glad we could help!"
Makar the Elder: "Here's the agreed-upon payment. Stories of your heroic deeds will be told to all those that pass through our camp."
Bumnog: "Thank you. Our business is all word of mouth, so that'll be a huge help. And thank you, friend! We won't forget your support, either."

Speak to her again, and she'll say:

"These men will always have a place of honor among my people."

After the quest, she says:

"There will be a feast later to celebrate the work of these fine men! We must show our appreciation for their hard work on our behalf."

However, if you decide to take the credit yourself, she'll say:

"We rarely use written contracts, but I'm glad our seer suggested one for these men. Their deceitful ways will cause them much sorrow."
I'm glad I could help.

Once you complete the quest, the following scene will play out:

Makar the Elder: "According to the contract, you were to complete the project without additional help."
Bumnog: "What? Maybe we didn't work in a conventional way, but we got rid of the harpies."
Makar the Elder: "In accordance with our contract, your pay goes to the one who did the work, not to you."
Bumnog: "Gelvin is not going to be happy when he hears this."

Speak to her after, and she'll say:

"We will escort these men to our border. They are not as skilled as we were led to believe, and I'll be sure to let this be known."
