The Dagger's Edge[edit]

As you approach the Remly brothers' location, you'll hear the two arguing:

Balin Remly: "How in the Eight do you expect to trap a flying harpy with a trap set on the ground? You're an idiot, you know that, right?"
Armel Remly: "You know I hate it when you yell at me, brother. Now calm down and help me figure out how to get a harpy to trip a wire on the … ground. Hmm, I see the problem now."
Bumnog: "Looks like we found the Remly brothers."

Speak to him and he'll say:

"Did Lord Diel send you? Well, there's nothing new to report, except that my brother is an idiot.
Armel placed dozens of traps and he just realized something. Harpies don't walk! Now we're trying to figure out how to salvage the situation."
What are you trying to do?
"We're trying to capture a few of these creatures. Lord Diel wants to observe the harpies and see if they demonstrate any odd behavior that might explain the recent acts of aggression.
But we're still working on our traps, as you can see."
Are all your traps set on the ground?
"We've got some throwing snares. The only problem is the damn harpies are too strong. They need to be weakened before you hit them with the throwing snares.
I may have a sword, but I'm not a fighter. That's too dangerous an approach for me."
Give me the throwing snares. How many harpies do you need?
"Lord Diel said a few. So four, I'd say. Yes, four harpies should do.
If this works, please tell his lordship that we gave you the traps, all right?"

Speaking to him again before you hunt down the harpies:

"My brother and I will pack up here and follow behind you.
Any harpies you catch in the throwing snare, we'll be sure to haul in and get back to camp."

Finish the tasks and return to camp to find Lord Diel being rebuked by Granette Feldrin as he stands over four bound harpies:

"Something's not right. Gelvin hasn't returned yet and Lord Diel's getting more and more impatient.
By Azura, he doesn't look like he intends to do much research, either. I think he likes to watch those creatures suffer."

Lord Diel is Exposed[edit]

Later, you'll find Gelvin and The Daggers on the beach near Miltrin's Fishing Cabin. If you decided to expose Lord Diel, you'll hear Gelvin tell the others:

Gelvin Feldrin: "I'm sorry I failed you. I know you were all counting on me."

Speak to Balin before speaking to Gelvin and he'll say:

"When Gelvin gets like this, it makes the rest of us extremely nervous."

If you spoke to Gelvin and haven't turned in the quest:

"Did we do it? Did we actually complete a mission? Quick, talk to Gelvin so he can explain what happened here."

After speaking to Gelvin, he'll add:

"I knew Gelvin would come through!
We chose a good leader for the Daggers."

The Daggers Get Paid[edit]

If you decided to let The Daggers take the money, everyone will be on the docks outside Miltrin's Fishing Cabin:

"I'm not sure I completely understand what's going on here. There is a harpy menace—isn't there?"

After the deal is done:

"Gelvin actually went through with it. I'm surprised, to say the least.
A little disappointed. A little happy. I'm so confused!"

Rusty Daggers[edit]

Once you've agreed to help Bumnog find his associates, the quest marker will lead you first to Balin, where he'll be caught in one of his own traps and cries out, "Hey! You! Help me out of this mess."

Speak to him and he'll say:

"Come on, help me out of this mess. I've been stuck for hours."
How'd you get caught by one of your own traps?
"By accident, of course! These things are delicate. Tricky. One false move and—snap! I'm caught. Now my arm's asleep and my back is killing me. Can we get on with the rescue?"
Try to hold still.
"Does it look like I have a choice? Make it quick already! Those harpies are looking at me like I'm a three-course meal."

Cut him out of the tethers, and he'll ungraciously reply:

"Thanks, I guess."
How did you end up in that trap?
"Armel and I were trapping the whole gully. These things are designed to go with our scent lures. But as I said, they're very finicky to set up.
Bah! Armel's a moron. His design's clearly faulty. If you hadn't shown up …."
Scent lures?
"Right! We put down these scent barrels. They draw the harpies in and they get caught in the traps. Simple! Or so he said.
I've already wasted too much time out here. I need to report in to Bumnog. Hey, would you be willing to help me out?"
What do you want me to do?
"Place the rest of my traps. You'll know where to put them. Armel went ahead of me to place the scent barrels—just like the one here. Put the traps with the barrels, and keep watch for my brother.
And be careful. Don't want you ending up like me."

At this point, if you previously completed The Dagger's Edge' you can ask if he remembers you:

Don't you recognize me? I helped you with Lord Diel.
"Oh! Yes, yes, of course. How have you been? We're fine. Mostly. We're doing the best we can, anyway. Still in the harpy business, just like the old days."
These circumstances seem rather familiar.
Sided with Lord Diel:
Stopped Lord Diel's Plans
"No, not really. I mean, back then, Lord Diel wouldn't have paid us without your, er, intervention.
Looks like you've done well enough for yourself since then, eh? Got a new shirt, did you? Maybe that's why I didn't recognize you right off."
Is everything going all right?
"Can't you tell?
Listen, I've got to get back to Bumnog. While you're out here, see if you can find that brother of mine."
"Do they? They're not, you know. We deserved better than what Lord Diel was going to do by us, didn't we?
I didn't recognize you until you mentioned it. Good to see you again. Imagine, meeting up after all this time."
Is everything going all right?
"Can't you tell?
Listen, I've got to get back to Bumnog. While you're out here, see if you can find that brother of mine."

If this is the first time meeting him, you can ask him about the trap-setting:

Do you and your brothers [sic] usually set traps?
"You betcha. We're not strong fighters, but we're usually pretty clever. Armel's actually a pretty smart guy most of the time. This scent trap idea. If it hadn't been for the rigging on this one, it probably would have worked! Probably."

If you speak with him at the camp before finding Armel, he'll wonder about his brother:

"I wonder if Armel's trussed up like I was? Really, it's a good thing you came along when you did."

After you have rescued the brothers, you can return to Makar the Elder's cave. There you'll witness the confrontation between Makar and the Rusty Daggers about fulfilling the contract:

Makar the Elder: "Are you telling me you've made absolutely no progress on the contract we signed with you?"
Balin Remly: "It's Armel's fault. His stupid trap malfunctioned again."
Armel Remly: "It's not my fault! Those harpies are crafty! And bloodthirsty!"
Makar the Elder: "Is that why you reek? What is that smell?"
<Bumnog runs into the cave.>
Bumnog: "The harpies! They're here! The scent lure on these two brought the whole flock down on us!"
Armel Remly: "We need to wash this stuff off before the harpies get us! To the pond!"
<The brothers run off with Bumnog.>
Makar the Elder: "Please, go with them. The villagers and I will hide from the beasts."
Bathtime as the Remly brothers try to wash off the stank.

Go down to the pond and the battle will begin. You'll fend off the harpies as the Remly brothers try to wash the smell of the scent lures off of them. Throughout the encounter, the three will make comments on their progress, the current situation of the battle, and snide quips at each other:

Bumnog: "Get ready! Here they come!"
Armel Remly: "Could someone get my back please?"
Balin Remly: "I'm scrubbing as fast as I can!"
Bumnog: "Hey! What do you say we just leave the Remly brothers for the harpies? Bird-women need love too!"
Balin Remly: "We're almost done! Just a little longer!"

No matter what you decide to tell, Makar the Elder, Bumnog will turn to the boys once more:

Bumnog: "Get off your arses, boys. Go take down those traps. We don't need them anymore."
Armel Remly: "But Bumnog! We just finished setting them up!"
Balin Remly: "I get to take down the pots. It's your turn to get caught up in those nets."
