The Goat of the Everlasting Fair

The Goat is a talking goat with glowing red eyes who can be met at the Everlasting Fair. He is unhappy with the decisions of the Fair's new management, and thus is open to helping you find some missing Fighters Guild members in exchange for your assistance.

Quest-Related Events

After speaking with Sergeant Alydine, you learn that several members of her squad became trapped in the fair and are unable to leave. She suggests you search for their Alfiq scout Sashii at the fair.

While you mingle with the guests and speak to some of them, you will soon hear a voice in your head as you approach the stone platform:

Goat: "Yes, yes, many wonders at the fair. But none as magnificent as the talking goat!"

If you wander around a bit before talking to the goat, you may hear him comment on Frandeline Theroque:

Goat: "Such beautiful music! What a shame she's the only one who can hear it."

When you climb the stairs and get close, the goat will prompt you to talk to him:

Goat: "Are you not amazed? I'm a talking goat! Who knows what I'll say next!"

Since the goat is so eager to talk to you, oblige him and see what he knows:

"Ah, you're smarter than you look. You've come to hear the wisdom of the talking goat. Few can resist my ineffable charm.
I'm not just a pretty face, you see. I know things. Secrets about the fair. Like where your missing Alfiq is."

How did you know I'm looking for an Alfiq?

"Not so fast. A goat never reveals his secrets. I'll help you find your missing Alfiq, but I don't work for free.
Things aren't what they seem here, and not in a fun way. I can assist you, but you'll have to help me sort out the fair in return."

If you can lead me to Sashii, I'll help you.

"How kind of you to say.
I need your aid in dealing with that usurper, the Lady of Riot. Her alteration magic has made a mess of the fair. I can offer some protection from her, but do tread carefully. No telling what she might turn you into."

Thanks for the warning. So where can I find Sashii?

Where I come from, goats aren't conversationalists. They're stew meat.

"Bold words coming from a mortal. Remember where you are.
The Lady of Riot distorted the fair, and she can just as easily turn you into something vile with her alteration magic. Stay on my good side and I can protect you. Or not. It's up to you."^{[verification needed — see talk page]}

All three options lead to the following response from the goat:

"The Alfiq ran into the Bristleback Extravaganza, southwest of here. Not the wisest move. The pigs are cranky today, and she wasn't quite herself, you see. If you survive, meet me outside the back gate and we'll speak more about the Lady of Riot."

You can continue talking to the goat to learn more about the Everlasting Fair:

"I wouldn't dawdle if I were you. The bristlebacks are fun to watch, but they're very territorial once you enter their enclosure. I, of course, wouldn't be caught dead inside a pen like that. But the Alfiq might, if you keep stalling."

What did you mean about things not being what they seem?

"Look around. There's drinking and debauchery aplenty, but is anyone really taking pleasure in their delicious indulgences? Their fantasies are twisted and strange. This isn't Sanguine's realm anymore.
Something's different with Revelers of the Rose."

You're very observant for a goat.

"Am I? Baah. There, happy now?
Goat cliches aside, the Revelers of the Rose used to worship Sanguine. Now they bow to the Lady of Riot. That insidious woman has eyes everywhere. Makes me want to drink. If only I could hold a cup."

Why are you so interested in restoring the fair?

"Because the Lady of Riot snatched the fair away from Sanguine and destroyed everything he stands for. Danger and delight can coexist, but she turned this place into a false shrine to her own ego.
Go. Find the Alfiq. We'll speak more of that later."

After you finish talking to the goat, he will give you a Goat-Hair Talisman for protection:

Goat: "Here. A talisman to protect you from the Lady of Riot's influence."

Entering the Bristleback Extravaganza enclosure, you find Sashii hiding in the western corner. The issue is that she met the Lady of Riot and was turned into an Orc. You can lead her out of the enclosure to the beachside exit, where the goat is waiting for you:

Goat: "Over here, mortal. I see you found who you were looking for. Rather gangly for an Alfiq."

Sashii: "Says the mangy, flea-ridden goat!"
