Elven Maiden Discussion[edit]

  • Unfortunately, upon arrival in the waterfront, you find out that Armand has been accused of stealing the statuette and has gone into hiding. Even worse, the Waterfront is crawling with guards including Hieronymus Lex. Other Thieves' Guild members will tell you that Methredhel is looking for you. If you don't run into her in the streets or while you're inside a building, visit Methredhel's house to find out more about Armand. It seems that your job was a setup in order to expose a traitor in the Thieves' Guild. It is a Dunmer named Myvryna Arano (the same woman who delivers the invitation to the Thieves' Guild). In order to turn the tables on her, you must sneak into her house (located on the Waterfront). If your sneak skill is good enough, you may be able to get into the house when guards around (just make sure the sneak "eye" shows that you are undetected); if your sneak skill isn't good enough, you may have to wait a long time before there are no guards around. Once inside, place the statuette in "Myvryna's Cupboard", which is the cupboard nearest the door and next to her bed. Then speak with Hieronymus Lex and convince him to search Myvryna's house. Lex's disposition must be at least 71 for him to believe you.

  • Unfortunately, upon arrival in the waterfront, you find out that Armand has been accused of stealing the statuette and has gone into hiding. Even worse, the Waterfront is crawling with guards including Hieronymus Lex. If you hurry to speak with other Thieves' Guild members, they will tell you that Methredhel looking for you. She is actively seeking you to update you on the situation, and can come inside the Shack for Sale or other houses to find you, but can be found inside her own house if necessary. As you question her, it becomes clear that your job was an elaborate charade designed to expose and in turn, frame a traitor in the Thieves' Guild, a Dunmer named Myvryna Arano (the same woman who delivers the invitation to the Thieves' Guild). The same stolen item that revealed her treachery is now to be used to turn Lex against her. The swarm of guards continues to bolt to and fro throughout the Waterfront area, <-added in later edit, see below- with the guard being reduced to one after a week or so;> and Lex remains in constant line of sight <of Myvryna Arano's front door>, so a very high sneak skill would be required to enter Myvryna Arano's house unseen, but the guards will disperse eventually. Once inside, place the statuette in "Myvryna's Cupboard", which is the cupboard nearest the door and next to her bed. Should Hieronymus Lex's disposition not be high enough, he will not believe your story, but once it is at least 71, you can convince him to search Myvryna's house.

Very similar to the discussion here, I think that the newest version of this pharagraph (second one) is constantly "beating around the bush", adding loads of unnecessary edits. Also the quest pages are only to guide people through the quest by giving tips, and in my opinion, the second version is very looked like to the plot of the quest instead of a walkthrough, so again, please compare these two versions and post your comments. --S'drassa T2M 23:08, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

As for 'beating around the bush', perhaps you could give an example? I am afraid I have not the slightest idea what you mean. Quite the contrary, I took care to put the consequences of Lex's disposition before the advice to speak with him, as I always feel that if a player is following the walkthrough line by line, it hardly helps to be told they should have done something else earlier.
I am glad that you find it to look like the plot of the quest, I like walkthroughs to feel like a story, as well as explain the critical requirements for the player to pass through each part of the quest. My edit does both, with no additional length, and actually does not add anything more like a story than was already there ("Unfortunately", "crawling with guards", "in order to turn the tables on her"). It tells more of what is happening and is required than previously (which accounts for the extra two lines), in a style which was, not only in this article but throughout UESP, a welcome break from the dry Wikipedia 'just the facts'. Guards[edit]

The guard was reduced to one after a week; Lex remains in direct line of sight to Myvryna's front door. It seems the original author was speculating, as is consistent with the language ('you may have to wait a long time'). I have changed what is now, I suppose, effectively an edit proposal (anything else would seem to lead to an edit war, since my edit was reverted without rationale, and when rationale was asked for, reverted again), to fit these new facts. Anarchangel 00:03, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

premature stage 30[edit]

Removing the VN from the article after digging around in the CS:

The bug is caused by the "No sign of Armand Christophe, Sir" HELLO Conversation entry. It incorrectly checks for the stage being > 10, and bumps it to 30 if it is, completely bypassing the actual theft of the bust (20). This also explains why it's intermittent (and likely extremely rare) - the Legionnaire needs to run into Lex by sheer chance, because they aren't both moved to the Waterfront until stage 20 is completed.

Trip to Chorrol[edit]

(moved from the article)
  • Always make sure Myvryna Arano is in Bed when The Guards arrest her otherwise you will be stuck inside the door until she is caught and usually she takes a visit to Chorrol which can result in hours of waiting
This... would be odd. The only time she goes to Chorrol is when looking for you to hand over your invitation to join the guild. Is it possible that you could run back from Chorrol, complete the Joining quest in double-quick time then start the next one all before she returns to the IC? It's not that far to travel, surely? rpeh •TCE 12:12, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Armand not hiding?[edit]

Is Armand supposed to just walk around the dock area? I was traveling around the dock side of the waterfront and Armand is just walking. He then stands outside of the Imperial basement all day and all night 24/7. The Imperial Watch walk right by him and pay no attention to him. I just now went and got the bust so should I go on and plant the bust?

Moved[edit]

Moved from main page *During the Untaxing the Poor mission, the Guild traitor Myvryna Arano had an "exempt" entry on the list of people taxed. Too careless on Lex's part.... Couldn't she have been giving him information since she's already a traitor, thus the "exempt" entry?--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 03:34, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Moved from article[edit]

* The ghost of the Countess Indarys is sometimes only activated by taking things from her coffin

I've moved this here because I doubt it since it should spawn as soon as you activate the coffin, and in any case, it needs more information than sometimes. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 12:55, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Skip Missions glitch/exploit?[edit]

Yeah, so i pretty-much completed this quest, I just didnt bother to find Armande Cristophe after Lex has taken to Dunmer to jail. Through my travels I went to Bravil and found S'krriva in one of the bars of the town. I talked to her and she said something like: "I can no-longer give jobs to a thief of your rank, but I heard the Gray Fox himself is looking for you". I believe this is one of the higher rank missions? Yet I have only just started the Thieves guild quest-line. This may be worth looking into?

The Thieves guild is prone to several quest skipping glitches. However I do not advise you to do the quests out of order as certain bugs often trigger that prevent further advancement in the Thieves Guild or completion. --Manic 02:04, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Llathasa's Bust Question[edit]

I'm looking for cool stuff to put in my house that arent weapons, so i was wandering if you could obtain Llathasa's bust after the quest is completed. — Unsigned comment by Spokaneskater (talkcontribs) on 4 December 2010

Without Console Commands the Bust is Unatainable. Once the quest ends the bust disappears from the game. --Manic 02:00, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
I think you can keep it if you kill the chapel guardian and then pay the blood price. But that involves abusing a bug. --Wizy 02:34, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
True, but does the item not remain a quest item if I remember correct? --Manic 02:35, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Test it out, seems the best way to find out. That or CS it. - Emoboy64 02:42, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
Llathasa's bust is moved back into the chapel after the quest is complete, but it remains a quest item. This is fixed by the UOP. rpeh •TCE 08:32, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Tested it today, rpeh is right. So once you pick it up it can't be dropped even after the quest is completed. --Manic 11:05, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Quest qualifications[edit]

Just changed 'you can only start this quest' to 'It is only possible to start this quest'. First edit, albeit minor, so...that's okay, right. And I'm Linara, or Nell. Nell 06:18, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Moved notes[edit]

  • Although you are given the rank of Bandit for completing this quest, this does NOT mean that you are free from attack by bandits at ruins and on the roads, as they are not a part of the Thieves Guild.
  • If you summon the ghost by stealing from the grave and quickly hide behind a pillar, it is possible that the guard will attack the ghost and ignore you. This is an easy way to obtain her armor without getting a bounty or blood price, as the ghost will often kill her.

I've been pruning the notes section, if you feel these are notable feel free to re-add them. --AKB Talk 05:23, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

- I've edited some of the page so that it's less "iffy" but there's a contradiction on the page. It says that Lthasa's spirit may attack and kill the chapel guard, and then in the notes section it says that Lthasa's spirit is not hostile towards the chapel guard. This makes no sense, any objections to me deleting the note? Kitkat1749 16:24, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Methedrel's shirt?[edit]

So...I just spoke to Methedrel and she told me about Myvryna and as soon as I exited the dialogue her shirt disappeared. This took me by surprise.— Unsigned comment by 184.163.174.48 (talk) at 04:22 on 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Her shirt didn't "disappear" - she put on her Huntsman Vest because it was that time a day. See this section. --Krusty 05:02, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Quest glitch[edit]

when i got the quest, i ignored it for a long time and when i went to the waterfront next, it said "watch men are swarming all over the place" or something of that sort and i never got the bust. is there an explination to this?? — Unsigned comment by Anastasia0812 (talkcontribs) at 20:54 on June 25, 2011

Disposition glitch?[edit]

I'm doing the Elven Maiden quest on a PS3, and I've just planted the bust in the cupboard. I tried going to speak to Heironymous Lex, but his disposition is stuck at 0. I've tried persuading, bribing, and a charm spell, but nothing works. His disposition remains at 0. I'd appreciate any help/suggestions! Thanks.

Methredhel Will Find You?[edit]

When i got the message about the guards everywhere, I went to my house on the waterfront. I went to bed, I set the time for 5 hours, after about 2 hours the wait stopped, so I stood there and used the "wait" command instead, again after a couple of hours the timer stopped, and this time Methredhel showed up in my house and gave me the rest of the quest. Did this happen to anyone else? Did anyone else try to wait out the guards in their house? Just a thought, because that's what happened when I tried to wait out the guards.Dave The Red 03:06, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

The Chapel Guard[edit]

O.k. I don't know if this is a glitch or not but is'nt The Chapel Guard supposed to try and attack you after if your take the Bust, Even if your not caught. The Chapel Guard Just Kept patrolling the Undercroft, just minding her own Buisness. I think it might be my Character since he is a member of the Nine Divine Faction so maybe thats the cause?(well that or my high personality,fame/infamy?) Dunehelm (talk) 21:22, 7 October 2013 (GMT)

She won't attack you unless she detects you, and as noted on her NPC page, if you are part of the Nine Divines faction, she will only attack if she sees you committing a crime (seeing you take the bust). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:32, 7 October 2013 (GMT)

I don't know what happend then because She saw me take the Bust, during and After the quest and still did nothing. You would think she'd get fired for failing to protect the thing.Dunehelm (talk) 14:52, 20 October 2013 (GMT)

Lex is stuck in metherdhels house[edit]

k so I'm in misdirection n I'm suppose to spy on lex at the waterfront n metherdhel has the icestaff but when I go to spy on lex hes stuck inside metherdhels house n I tried to pick the lock n when I get inside the entire game freezes up n I'm just stuck there n can't move or anything but im face to face with lex and a guard n two women but can'ttalk move or nothing I have to go to reload my previous save so am I missing something a part of the mission or is it the game itself or what I'm done with like 80% of the game regarding other missions I'm level 35 n can't seem to figure this out please help shoot me an email or I'll try to bookmark this page or whatever Im just going nuts..Joshreif@yahoo.com it might be lowercase j or J not sure try them both but write oblivion in the mailbox so I know its not junk thanks help me please

Other guild members[edit]

The article says you must talk to "other guild members" after Armand goes into hiding, but doesn't give any specifics. I tried talking to S'Krivva and Ongar - the only two thieves aside from Armand that I have even heard of so far - and neither was any help. I think the article should at least mention one specific person that you can talk to in order to continue the quest. Dbbolton (talk) 19:24, 22 May 2014 (GMT)

Confirming Bugs[edit]

I've been trying to get my game to crash by starting the Unexpected Voyage quest while The Elven Maiden is active. I have tried to do so on different times of day, and during different stages of the quest, but I can always finish the quest without troubles. Can someone elaborate on why the game crashes/how to make it crash?

In addition, I have confirmed the bug that Lex will run outside of Myvryna's house when she is not there as he check the cupboard, freezing the player for the duration of the cutscene. I managed to lure her out of her house with the Command Humanoid spell.

I haven't been able to confirm the bug where immediately taking out the Bust of Myvryna's cupboard makes you unable to put it back again. It seems impossible to retrieve the Bust before the quest message appears, and after the quest message you can put it back again as normal.

I am running the steam version of the game without mods and without the unofficial oblivion patch. Lord Melchior (talk) 15:14, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Strange Bug - Not Explained[edit]

I'm a thief, so taking the fenced gold level was easy. I spoke to Armand and then he gave me the not-much-easy-for-me quest. I made a Quicksave and I fast travelled to Cheydanal (It was that the city, correct? I don't remember). After sneaking in the chapel, I couldn't go past the guard without warn her, so I surrendered. "Whatever", I thought (I just took the quest and I didn't think about loading a save before) and then I did very much things: from myrmidon to champion in Arena, all the Order Of The Virtous Blood quest, all the Unfriendly competition quest, 4 of 7 recommendations for the Mages Guild et cetera. I then bought a house and I went in Waterfront to see it. In nearly 45 seconds of staying in the District, the quest updated, to the path where Lex arrives in the place. Confused, I read the wiki, I saw it was missing something, and finally I'm here to write... Can someone explain this to me? Is this a Bug? 93.50.74.182 16:32, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Are you saying you surrendered to the Chapel Guard in the Undercroft, because that is impossible. Or do you mean you gave up on the quest at that point. It may be worth a look in the construction set to see at what point the quest updates internally, because it could be that entering and leaving is enough to trigger the Waterfront scene, but you still need the bust to finish the quest. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:52, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
For starting, thanks for paying attention! I, however, was talking about give up on the quest, I know well the fact that I can't yeld to the Guard. Also, I resolved the problem: I think that as the time passes, the guards arrive without condition. I resolved easily because I have the KoTN plug-in, so, by talking with the Prophet (As I said before, I started so many quests), I became Pilgrim, and then, retrying the Elven Maiden for nothing to do, I discovered the advantages of the Faction. Stealing the statuette when the Guard was far from me, I returned to the Waterfront and then brought it in the cupboard. At this point, the quest proceeded as it had to go. However, thanks, but I'm not that kind of person that controls the CS for quests that don't work... I like the Talk page for this :P 93.50.74.182 20:31, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Glad to hear you were able to use an ingame solution. "Hopefully" in the future someone else can duplicate the bug and then we can find the source of the bug and provide details of what to avoid. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:41, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Another time, thank you for answering me in a short time. I'll not go in the CS and see the things and all, but I noticed that another user inormed us of the bug, as seen in "quest bug" section, written without much care, but writren. I'm telling another time that I think as the time passes Lex goes to the waterfront. I think I have nothing other to say. For the last time, thanks for having care of me 93.50.74.182 15:51, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Player Housing[edit]

Does Myrvana Arano's House become safe to use as player housing once the quest is complete? 74.113.40.71 05:32, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

No. As noted on the house page, only the cupboard and a few sacks do not respawn. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:38, 9 March 2018 (UTC)

Strange Bug[edit]

Okay here i am on my 4th playthrough, And Armad Christophe has yet to be seen back in the Dareloth so after Lex arrested the thieve's guild traitor I've been proceeding to the Garden of Dareloth at the game time stated when he shows up but the redguard never shows up.

I have even gone to the Imperial Company Base Warehouse and he is no where to be seen in there either, Someone suggested he is at the Basement part but I have looked and i do not see him, And he is not in his House either...So I got 2 guests on what happened to him

1 He has vanished completely from the game

Or

2 Some bug has caused him to be stuck inside Dareloth's House

So I have no way to complete the thieve's guild so I'm gonna just half to delete my 4th playthrough and start it over again!

But I've never encountered this in any of my previous playthrough's

Edit : Never mind I was in the wrong Imperial Building

Incorrect information in notes?[edit]

From Notes:

  • If you are lucky, you can witness a rather funny scene, where one of the roaming guards will bump into Lex and ask him if he "has seen/knows the hideout of" Armand Christophe, to which Lex will answer with the standard beggar answer "I don't know. Please, don't hurt me". This can happen if a guard bumps into another too.

I was trying to get this to happen for quite some time, but it never did. I took a look in the Creation Kit and none of the guards or Lex have this line in their goodbye dialogue tab, but other NPCs in the IC water district does have it in theirs. It also looks like it checks whether the target is a guard or not, so that the guards shouldn't say this line. (Not 100% sure, since I don't know much about coding nor how the creation kit works) So I don't think it this scenario is actually possible or atleast not on the latest patch (without any mods)on PC.

Can anyone else who actually know how the Creation Kit works (also know how the "if Guard =" checks in the dialogue tab works) confirm this?
