Summons Hostile?[edit]

I've noticed the daedra that are summoned by this staff often attack me...bug?

From what I understand, the summoned creature is hostile to both you and the target, so it's somewhat random which it attacks. --68.110.235.31 00:33, 25 February 2007 (EST)
Yes, the creatures that appear using Sanguine Rose are the standard versions of the various creatures, and therefore belong to the Daedra faction and Conjurer faction, which will dictate who/what they attack. (On the other hand, the creatures that appear when you cast a summon spell are special versions of the creatures that do not belong to any factions). So I'd guess that using Sanguine Rose when fighting other daedra or conjurers would probably be pretty ineffective, because the summoned creatures would automatically be allied with your enemies. --Nephele 00:55, 3 March 2007 (EST)
It does kind of work. With a previous character, I did occasionally use the Rose on daedra, esp. Storm Atronachs. The creature the Rose summoned usually did attack whatever I aimed it at, regardless of what it was, unless I got too close, in which case the summoned creature came after me. --Gaebrial 04:50, 20 August 2007 (EDT)
I played one character to level 50+ at highest difficulty and found the Rose to be a very useful weapon (along with the Skull of Corruption). The summoned creature almost never attacked me. Just stay some distance away or use invisibility on yourself after using the Rose. -- Oban 00:42, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Duplication[edit]

It is possible to duplicate this item using the arrow glitch. sanguine rose can be used for the main quest as an artifact for martin so it might be possible to complete the main quest and still not have to pick a artifact to get rid of.- JRM

Can it be duped with the Skull of Corruption? --Debatra 15:54, 21 June 2008 (EDT)

Stub??[edit]

How is this article a stub? --Eshe 15:55, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

It isn't really. There's not much more to say about the Sanguine Rose other than that wich is on the page. The stub box thing may as well be deleted.--Willyhead 16:02, 1 August 2007 (EDT)

Huh?[edit]

The article lacks information whether casting this spell at an NPC constitutes an assault. --194.251.240.113 08:23, 16 August 2007 (EDT)

Then add it! If something like that is missing from the site it's because nobody's realised it would be useful. If you think it would be, this is your big chance for fame and glory :-) --RpehTalk 08:59, 16 August 2007 (EDT)
Unfortunatley, it does. --Debatra 15:54, 21 June 2008 (EDT)

Does luck influence the chances of spawning a higher level daedra?[edit]

Just wondering. --Sundaroct131088 07:16, 19 August 2007 (EDT)

I seriously doubt it. Tests on item leveled lists have found absolutely no effect from luck. With creature leveled lists it seems less likely that the developers would introduce a dependence on luck, in particular because it's really not clear what effect luck should have (if you're lucky, would you rather have weaker creatures appear and have easier fights? Or would you rather have stronger creatures appear who may have better loot?). For Sanguine Rose in particular, there is no preference given to any of the listed creatures: they all spawn starting at level 1 with no difference in weighting. So there isn't even any way for the game to differentiate between the creatures if there was some adjustment being made to the list probabilities. --NepheleTalk 11:41, 19 August 2007 (EDT)
Ya that makes sense. Guess it's just completely randomized. Thanks anyway. --Sundaroct131088 15:07, 19 August 2007 (EDT)

Murder[edit]

Should there be something on the page about using the rose to kill an NPC without it counting as a murder? This could be useful for dispatching characters like Umbra without attracting the attention of the Dark Brotherhood. — Unsigned comment by Oban (talkcontribs)

Look on the page, under "notes". Using the Rose on an NPC counts as assault, and will get you a bounty. If using it gets you a bounty, it will count as a murder. --LordDagon 11:19, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
That's not entirely correct. The projectile gives you bounty, but it's not the projectile that kills your target. Since the creature belongs to the Daedra and Conjurer faction, and not you, you actually won't get a murder charge. Just an assault. ZirePhoenix 18:28, 25 December 2008 (EST)

Stop Working[edit]

I was playing around with the staff yesteryday and for some reason, it stopped working. I tried it on a prisoner in jail, and assumed he was a specail rarity. Then attempted it on guards, and assumed it behaved like the staff of corruption, and wouldn't affect guards. Now you have to understand, it had worked, I killed the three people in the stables outside imperial city using it, so I know its not any of my mods (not that I have any that do anything more than recolor armor and other small mods). After It failed to work after multiple dead on hits on the prisoner and various guards, I removed my bounty as to stop the huge guards vs citizens fight going on, and when everything slowed down, I tried it on some maged at the arcane univeristy (normal mages, not guards) but still no daedra. I even tried it on some kahjiit dude walking about on the streets, still nothing, yet I was getting the assault charges and the usual lines you get when you attack people. anyone ever heard of this bug or know how to solve it? It just stopped working on anyone. (yes it was charged, I have about 50 varla stones hotkeyed). — Unsigned comment by 75.117.160.208 (talk) on 30 October 2008

Yeah, my Sanguine Rose stopped working too, sometime after I completed the Battle for Castle Kvatch. Pity. — Unsigned comment by 75.37.149.112 (talk) on 5 December 2008
Stopped working, 280 days passed, 98 quests done. duh — Unsigned comment by 79.24.2.113 (talk) at 10:51 on 4 February 2021 (UTC)
