Race[edit]

This is the only NPC page that does not mention its race; is he an Imperial or Breton? Mebestien 01:17, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

The construction set says he's a Breton. Th232 01:33, 18 March 2007 (EDT)

Death[edit]

Is there any major disadvantage to Jauffre dieing during the Defense of Bruma quest? --WerdnanoslenTalk 10:58, 22 April 2007 (EDT)

  • No, but he is helpful in the final part of the main quest -Lordsword 8 11:14, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
OK, that's what I thought. Is it worth it to restart the Defense of Bruma quest and try to keep him alive? --WerdnanoslenTalk 11:18, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
Given that you'd presumably have to redo both Defense of Bruma and the Great Gate, I'd say it's probably not worth it just for sake of having one more ally during Light the Dragonfires. But it's probably mainly a matter of personal preference. --NepheleTalk 14:10, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
Good. As long as Jauffre has no use other than his sword in battle, then I won't bother. On another note, I just finished the Main Quest :D, so I'll stop with the dozens of questions X). --WerdnanoslenTalk 14:19, 22 April 2007 (EDT)

Managed to accidentally make Jauffre hate me...[edit]

Okay, I think what happened was: I accidentally got on Jauffre's horse after the Weynon Priory quest. He didn't like that, and attacked me. I yielded, and he accepted. But ever since, every time I talked to him he had a pretty grim scowl during/after the conversation. And then, when I went to start the Great Gate quest, he began attacking me - all the other NPCs proceed to rush to my aid and attack Jauffre, who will now not accept my yeilds. Argh. QmunkE 09:32, 31 May 2007 (EDT)

You need to get a strong Charm on target spell and cast it on Jauffre from a distance whenever you approach him. That's basically the only option you have for increasing Jauffre's Disposition because you can't use Speechcraft or bribes. Or else go do a lot of quests to boost your fame sky-high... it will take a while, but that's the only permanent way to make him like you more (and make sure not to gain any infamy while you're at it). There are consequences for your actions sometimes ;) --NepheleTalk 12:39, 31 May 2007 (EDT)

Quest Item?[edit]

The article says Jauffre's body never disappears, but I'm not sure that's true. I found his ID and used the "player.moveto" console command, but instead of just transporting me to Jauffre or Jauffre's body, the game transported me back in time to the Temple District while there are still Oblivion gates and spikes and even the ambient sound of fighting; incidentally Jauffre's body was lying on the doorstep of the Temple of the One. There were no Daedra and no people except for a couple of Imperial palace guards who had their swords drawn, ready to fight. The buildings were on fire and, when I went into the Temple, the sky was Oblivion red but the statue of Akatosh was there. So, questions: Why did I get the weird time paradox effect? Can everybody else but me find Jauffre/Jauffre's corpse after "Light the Dragonfires?"

Okay, I loaded up my other game that has a complete Main Quest and I got the same time paradox. Baurus died in that game and his body was there, too. IWon'tFightUndead 16:01, 15 November 2007 (EST)
You're hitting an issue here of game semantics. Jauffre's body never disappears from the spot where he was killed. But the game does a few strange things with locations. In particular, there are two different versions of the Temple District, the "usual" version and the "Light the Dragonfires" version. They are considered by the game to be two different locations, both of which always exist according to the game engine. Things happen in the two places independently of each other. Under normal gameplay, you'll only see one at a time, because the gates leading to the area will only ever connect to one of the two versions. But if you use commands like moveto or coc you can hop back and forth between the two, just like hopping back and forth between Anvil and Skingrad, for example. You're not hopping back and forth in time, you're just hopping between two different locations.
The upshot is that if Jauffre is killed in the "Light the Dragonfires" version of the Temple District then his body will always stay there. Just because your player can't easily get there doesn't really invalidate the statement that his body never disappears. It's just that his body never disappears from an area that's effectively been locked off. --NepheleTalk 16:53, 15 November 2007 (EST)
Ah, okay; thanks. That makes sense. I still find the time paradox explanation to be pretty amusing, though. =D IWon'tFightUndead 21:59, 15 November 2007 (EST)

paralyze[edit]

If you cast paralyze at Jauffre's horse while Jauffre is riding, the horse gets up (and is angry) but Jauffre does not get up. You can speak to him, but he does not get up. Jauffre lays on the ground with his body still in a riding position. If you fast travel, Jauffre does not come with you, but if you return to the spot you left him, he will be mounted on his horse and ready for you.

All of this applies to Martin as well.75.198.214.243 04:07, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

This works on most (if not all) NPCs that ride horses and has already been mentioned in the Proposed Glitches section of the wiki. Vesna 23:08, 7 June 2008 (EDT)

Bodies that never disappear?[edit]

I don't know where else to ask this, but does anyone know which NPCs bodies will never disappear if they die? I know Jauffre, Prior Maborel & Alval Uvani don't, but who else?--Barfightbob 09:14, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

Right off hand, I can name Glathir and Telaendril. I'm not sure if anyone has put together a list.--Darth NANAME 10:25, 12 August 2008 (EDT)
I looked around, and I found that Bernadette Peneles and Toutius Sextius have permanent corpses, too. I'm sure there are others, but I don't know who. --Darth NANAME 10:35, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

I've posted the full list of NPCs at Oblivion_talk:Containers#Quest Item NPCs, which is a more appropriate place to hold this discussion. –RpehTCE 04:57, 19 August 2008 (EDT)

There is a full list with the permanent corpses in Oblivion at Oblivion_talk:Containers#Quest Item NPCs as Rpeh said. --Rigas Papadopoulos 08:49, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Dialogue after completing the main quest?[edit]

Can you guys post what he says after stopping the Oblivion siege machine thing and the main quest? He died with Baurus in the battle for Bruma in my game, but I'm still curious. All help would be appreciated. 60.50.69.188 07:57, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

After siege it's, "You should be proud what you've done here today. But you must still retrieve the amulet and light the dragon fires so that Mehrunes Dagon will truly be defeated." No further new dialogue seems to be available. He's a frail ****. took me a while to save him.

Assertion[edit]

I moved this from the main page because there was no reference to a source. It's not unreasonable, but I'd prefer it to be cited.

"Jauffre is named after and based upon Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre. He was Commander-In-Chief of the French Army between 1914 and 1916 during World War One."

Jauffre in Aleswell[edit]

I was just walking around the world when I visited Aleswell (Everyone was visible at that time) And sitting in the tavern was Jauffre, Does he do that a lot (the last quest I completed was Dagon Shrine)Spriggs37 17:31, 10 January 2009 (EST)

Where is he?[edit]

I have always wanted to know where Jauffre disapears after the last quest in the main quest. He was alive when I and Martin enter the Temple. After the battle no more Jauffre.Does he disapear or...? — Unsigned comment by 85.167.52.140 (talk) on 18 April 2009

If he's still alive you'll find him back in Cloud Ruler Temple. Don't forget that he may be killed on the way. –RpehTCE 04:38, 19 April 2009 (EDT)

"May Attack You" Bug[edit]

Just thought about it for a second, is it really necessary to mention that he might attack you if his disposition is low enough? Isn't that assumed, since it's true for most characters? IWon'tFightUndead 05:22, 27 April 2009 (EDT)

I've deleted the note because you're right - it would happen to anybody. That edit just hadn't been patrolled yet. –RpehTCE 05:37, 27 April 2009 (EDT)

Jauffre's aggresion is 5! This means that unless you use a Frenzy spell on him he will NOT attack even if his Disposition towards you is 0! --Rigas Papadopoulos 11:46, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

"Essential Until" corrected[edit]

According to the construction set, Jauffre is essential until the quest "Great Gate" (MQ14, index 0, Result Script), not "The Defense of Bruma" as was stated on this page.

The entry in the data table has been corrected, as well as the "example" in the second of the opening two paragraphs (because it gives the example "The Defense of Bruma").

--Someone 03:24, 12 May 2009 (EDT) — Unsigned comment by 76.180.222.84 (talk) on 12 May 2009

Actually if you look at MQ13Script - the script for the battle in the Defense of Bruma, you'll see that he gets made unessential in that. –RpehTCE 03:41, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

Voiceactor relevance[edit]

Given that Ralph Cosham does the voices of 'all' the Breton males, is there a reason he's credited on this page as opposed to any other NPC pages? I'm asking now in case there is a good reason before I edit the page. --Darth NANAME 17:50, 22 May 2009 (EDT)

I don't think there's good reason for it. The only reason I can think of is that he's quite a major character. So, in my point of view: not noteworthy. Wolok gro-Barok 17:55, 22 May 2009 (EDT)
I agree...the only reason that he would be notable on this page is that Jauffre's a VIP. It can be removed, if you haven't already done so. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 23:43, 28 May 2009 (EDT)
Sorry, went ahead and removed it. No need to waste time. --Mr. Oblivion(T-C) 00:21, 29 May 2009 (EDT)

Problem being asked to join the blades[edit]

Anyone ever had problems being asked to join the blades? Not a big deal to me, but he wont offer it. It may have to do with him being knocked out like 4 times, but I dont know.--Catmaniac66 04:10, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Could you provide more specifics? What quests have you completed along the main quest line? What does he say? It's hard to figure out your specific situation. - Neural Tempest 04:55, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I assumed people knew that I knew what I was talking about :-D. Just completed Weynon Priory and at the point he is supposed to offer me a chance to be in the Blades, he doesnt. He was regular dialog, and as I remember he offers you membership before you can access the other options. Again, it probably has to do with him getting wailed on one too many times, if this is never resolved its all good.--Catmaniac66 05:23, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Yep! I think it is to do with disposition. Because you attacked him a lot , it has gone down. Just get it back up , and he will offer you it. JackTurbo95 05:28, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Never touched him, hardest difficulty playthrough so I didnt bother attacking at all. But in all likelyhood he traded blows with my summon at some point, I actually didnt know his offer was based on disposition. Ill try that next time, thanks man!--Catmaniac66 05:38, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
I think it says that on the quest page. JackTurbo95 05:39, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
The disposition bit seems to be the most reasonable answer, but if speechcraft or charm spells don't work, try completing the next quest in the plot, then speak with him again. It will most likely reset his lines, and alter his disposition as a bonus. When you said he got knocked down, I didn't think about him getting angry at you, I didn't think it was you who beat him down. The disposition factor makes sense, as it's built in. As long as he doesn't die, you should have plenty of time between quests to try and court him. If nothing works, then there might be some hidden problem. Summoned creatures, especially Dremora and Xivalai, tend to fire spells off at the drop of a hat, which would easily explain Jauffre getting into a brawl with your critter, which is technically an extension of your character. - Neural Tempest 05:45, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Had this problem just a few minutes ago. Use the setownership console command on him, works wonders. 174.3.68.114 10:07, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

() I am pretty sure it could only be something to do with his disposition. Sometimes even if your creature attacks anything , their disposition goes down. Annoying problem , but all it takes is a bit of bribery or speechcraft! JackTurbo95 05:47, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Missing Jauffre after saving Martin[edit]

So I saved the city of Kvatch and convinced Martin to come with me. We fast travel to Weynon Priory and the monks are attacked. I fight the red robes and then when I enter the chapel, there are only two mythic dawn agents and no Jauffre. I kill them and that's that. Still no sign of Jauffre.

Martin gives the speech about the amulet, and then if you look at the next quest map sign it points to the Cloud's temple, which, if you travel there is closed and bared and you can not enter (martin keeps following me all the time).

I tried over and over again to go back before reaching the weynon priory and find Jeoffre. I am level 25 is that influencing something the main quest?

What should I do?

Martin And Kvatch[edit]

I saved Kvatch before I met Jauffre so the guy I've been told to talk to only says "thanks for saving Kvatch" where can I find Martin??? Please Help! — Unsigned comment by 2.216.187.247 (talk) on 10 April 2012

If you've gone to Jauffre after saving Kvatch, you need to find Martin, who is now located at the Kvatch camp ~ Dwarfmp 19:33, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Unused dialouge?[edit]

I've had most of the unused dialouge on this page in game. I'm on the ps3 so I don't think it is a mod issue. You can get into the locked room, because it isn't locked, the Mythic Dawn bust the door. It must be done before saving Jauffre, however. And ge definetly talks about Baurus during the Path of the Dawn. The only speech I do not see is the one about the Amulet of Kings, which may still be in game.--Br3admax 20:46, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

So you can get into the room after having dealt with the Mythic Dawn outside, but before going into the chapel? He speaks of Baurus indeed, but the line mentioned in the notes seems different than the one he actually says (which is included in the article), are you sure he has said THIS particular line anywhere, and if so, when did he do it? Thanks ~ Dwarfmp 06:31, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, it wasn't the exact line, but I'm sure about getting to the "locked" room first. Instead of going to help Jauffre, go check on the Amulet yourself. In the ps3 version at least, you should get the dialouge for the amulet already being gone.--Br3admax 07:03, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
