Torbern at Aerin's Camp

Torbern is a Nord acrobat and the master trainer in Acrobatics. He can be found at Aerin's Camp high in the Jerall Mountains.

Torbern has a simple schedule, though this is impacted by a bug. He sleeps from 8am to noon and then wanders around the camp until midnight. After spending the next eight hours sat on his stool he goes to bed at 8am.

Provided you've completed the Acrobatics master training quest, he will offer his training services from midnight to 8am and from 2pm to 8pm. If the Fighter's Stronghold plugin is enabled, he will also offer training from 12pm to 2pm.

He is equipped with a set of fur armor: a cuirass, gauntlets, greaves, and boots.

He will greet you with:

"Hello there. Welcome to Aerin's Camp."

If you have started the training quest for Acrobatics, he will tell you that there is no 'Aerin' living in the camp:

"You came all this way for training from Aerin? You must be really disappointed that she's not here. Well, I haven't ever seen her, so I guess you're out of luck there. But, if you want... I could train you. I'm pretty skilled myself. And I could always use the money."

Notes

• Torbern's stats are all quite low and correspond to the default settings when creating a new NPC in the Construction Set: all skills set to 5, all Attributes set to 50 (except Personality, which is 40) and each of health, magicka and fatigue set to 50. As a result, he can be killed very easily by wild creatures roaming around his campsite, especially as he wears fur armor, carries no weapons and cannot cast any spells.
  • The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 2.0.0, fixes this by marking Torbern as essential.

Bugs

• Torbern was supposed to tell you a bit about Aerin, but the related 'camp' topic is not available and the dialogue cannot be heard in-game: "Yeah, it's her camp. I don't know where she is, though. For that matter, I don't know who she is either... No one was here, so I thought I'd settle in." (listen).
  • The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, version 3.4.0, fixes this bug.
• Torbern was meant to eat from 12pm to 2pm and from 8pm to midnight. However, doesn't carry any food and there is none available at his camp, which means he just wanders around hungry instead. ^?
