"In setting up your character, it's almost purely a matter of choice as to whether you use axes or blunt weapons. If you'd like to make Endurance a priority along with their magical protection, you do get a bonus for spears, though you'd obviously forfeit the ability to block. The Long Blade bonus is practically negligible when you consider the level of bonus you get and that 3 other races also benefit from it. The Medium Armor is obviously the preferred style, but if you have trouble finding good pieces to use for that type, at least you still get some kind of bonus for Heavy Armor. So, we've established 2 of your 10 preferred skills... that leaves a lot of room open. You might consider adding Restoration or Mysticism so you have an easier time increasing your Willpower while also maintaining a defensive character. Strength tends to be useful for combat characters, so you could add Acrobatics and/or Armorer. That's about as far as the Nord can really ask for; further definition is all up to how you want to play. Magic should be a low priority, though, since Nords start with 30 intelligence."

The above is a part of what used to be in the Ideal Character section. I think it's too much about how to make a character, so I'm moving it here, and may try later to make it work... Somercy 13:45, 15 February 2007 (EST)

I entered that in to make the point that the Nord really lacks definition as a race, even compared to the other combat races. After all, close combat only just requires armor and a weapon. The others have something to go on, so why not put this in the least defined race? Organous 22:54, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Yeah, but it's less of a definition of Nord, more of how to play Nord. I see this as an encyclopedia article, and that info's more hint-ish than factual data on Nord. Somercy 12:21, 16 February 2007 (EST)
That's the idea. The Ideal Character section is intended for newbies (though most of'em are probably in Oblivion now). Those of us with experience are already familiar with how to play each of the races, but those without that experience can use this to get some ideas.— Unsigned comment by Organous (talkcontribs)

Are the Nords based on the Vikings or the Anglo-Saxons? Grimwald 21:26, 27 November 2008 (EST)

From the lore article, "The Nords may be based on the Anglo-Saxon (Old English), Scandinavian, or Icelandic cultures on Earth." Also see TOW. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 03:50, 28 November 2008 (EST)

Athletics bonus[edit]

Somebody added Athletics +5 to Nord racial bonuses. I don't have MW installed, so I can't verify. Can somebody else? --Xyzzy 17:26, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

I just used CSList to look it up—no bonus to Athletics for Nords. eshetalk 17:30, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Could there be some kind of "hidden bonus?" I think the user who added it thinks so. --Xyzzy 20:14, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
It's possible, I guess, but I very seriously doubt it. The game has been around so long (and we have had so many experts looking at its pages) that I find it hard to believe it's been missed this whole time. All I can confirm is that it isn't showing up in game data according to the CSList. If I'm missing something, or if the game is somehow creating a bonus when there's no data for it, then someone should throw rocks at my head ;). eshetalk 20:21, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for looking into this. I didn't just want to revert the user's edit, unlikely it seemed. --Xyzzy 21:58, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
