Uxith-Ei[edit]

"The Dominion's interference rendered the Hist unable to influence the eggs, and without the direction or purpose provided by the Hist, the eggs would return to Sithis unless they were salvaged from the nests."

This cannot be true, or else there'd never be Argonians born away from the Hist, who cannot hear it. Reference: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Strange_Case_of_Ja-Reet

Likewise, if Argonians cannot be born without the Hist, there'd never be any way for "generations of Argonians" to be kept as slaves in Morrowind, far from any Hist. Reference: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Uta-Tei - "We were slaves to Dark Elves for generations. When the Ebonheart Pact formed, we refused to fight beside our former captors. [...]". It would make sense for slaveowners to want to breed their slaves, rather than pay to have new ones captured every year. The only way to resolve this is to assume Keeper Uxith-Ei was misrepresenting the situation - or he actually believed that without the Hist the eggs would die, but it is not actually the case. — Unsigned comment by Korrek ar (talkcontribs) at 15:48 on 5 July 2021‎

Argonians being able to reproduce outside of Black Marsh has nothing to do with what was happening to the eggs beneath the Hatching Pools' Hist. The Hist being able to influence the eggs and Argonians' ability to reproduce away from the Hist are not mutually exclusive concepts; both can be true. The fact of the matter is we're shown the eggs exploding after the connection is severed during Keepers of the Shell. Uxith Ei says that without the connection to the Hist, the eggs born beneath the Hist can't hatch. We aren't told the exact mechanics of Argonian reproduction. We know they have cloacas, and we know that Argonians who are born beneath a Hist look a certain way according to the Hist's will, ergo the Bright-Throat Argonians having brightly colored scales. But knowing what Uxith-Ei says, it's safe to assume his statement (Without the Hist, the eggs can't hatch.) only applies to eggs born beneath the Hist. Keeper Uxith-Ei isn't wrong because what he says will happen as a result of the connection being severed happens before our eyes. There's nothing that needs to be resolved, and we don't need to assume he's misrepresenting anything. The quest verifies his claim. -MolagBallet (talk) 21:41, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
