The Shrine of Saint Veloth ca. 2E 582

The Shrine of Saint Veloth is a Daedric ruin located on the eastern river of Deshann, as part of the province of Morrowind. It is a temple dedicated to Saint Veloth the Pilgrim, who guided the ancient Chimer away from the high life of the Summerset Isles for a new one with his followers in modern-day Morrowind. The temple houses the Reliquary of Saint Veloth, which holds Veloth's very skull, the Sacred Cranium,[1] and his bones. Many pilgrims flock to the shrine because his bones are believed to have magical properties.[2] The temple is built on a grassy knoll and it's marked by its large obsidian arches and vast scope.[3]

History[edit]

It is unknown when the temple was constructed by the Chimer but it houses the Reliquary of Saint Veloth, a special urn that holds Veloth's remains[2] after he passed away sometime around the mid-late Merethic Era.[3] Ever since then, many pilgrims traveled to the shrine for a blessing and legends even dictate that the most faithful sometimes see visions of Veloth's vestige appear to them.[2]

Sometime in the mid-Second Era, Urili Vox, the Magistrix of Morals in the Tribunal Temple guided the envoy-scholar Flaccus Terentius on a tour through Deshaan and their last stop was the Shrine of Saint Veloth. While Vox and her troop of Ordinators prayed to the Good Daedra in the shrine's cathedral, Terentius was freely able to paint it for his revision of the Emperor's Guide to Tamriel. He painted the temple's architecture and noted its ancient Chimer style. In time, they left the temple, and Terentius was sent off to Black Marsh.[3] At this time, the shrine was overseen by Master Aron.[4]

Years later in 2E 582, Magistrix Vox returns with her faction, the Maulborn and Veloth's Judgement, and called forth the spirit of Saint Veloth. Afterward, she shattered the reliquary and summoned Daedra to attack the temple grounds. An acolyte was able to call for help in the form of an Agent of the Ebonheart Pact. They were sent by Veloth to recover the shattered pieces of the reliquary and pass it to Master Aron, who could rebuild it. Once they retrieved each piece, however, they needed to find the Sacred Cranium from the daedroth Varvesuu Nograta. Once the threat had been dealt with, and the reliquary was completed again, Saint Veloth gave the Agent his blessing so that they could face Vox and survive Veloth's Judgement in Eidolon's Hollow.[5]
