Archmage Jaganvir was the Archmage of the Stros M'Kai Mages Guild following the death of Archmage Voa in 2E 864 at the Battle of Hunding Bay. While his powers as a mage were formidable, he was considered an unworthy successor by local guild members, with such references as being "a disgrace to A'tor's memory", "a spineless toad of a man", "a perfect lackey to the Governor's every whim",[1] "a real hardcase", and simply "crazy".[2]
Jaganvir spent a great deal of time studying for the test to become an Imperial battlemage at the Empire's Battlespire war college.[3] He was considered part of the "upper cabal" within the guild, a group of members known for being secretive. When he had time to conduct guild business, it was to ensure that its members kept quiet about guild affairs.[2]
A guild acolyte named Joto helped Iszara research soul gem magic and prepare to face the Sload necromancer N'Gasta using the Flask of Lillandril.[4] When the Empire caught on, Provisional Governor Richton sent his assistant Dram to speak with Jaganvir. Joto was arrested and sent to the city jail. After that, Jaganvir became even stricter about policing talk with visitors. He strictly abided by Richton's demands to keep the Mages Guild on the Empire's good side, instead of in chains.[2][3]
Three months later, Cyrus visited the guild and pushed too far in his questioning of Iszara's involvement with Joto. Jaganvir overheard his conversation with the guild's apprentice shopkeeper. Enraged, he cast a spell to turn Cyrus into a gremlin, a spell known to be his favorite little trick for handling such matters, though some considered it to be vulgar magic.[5][1]
It is unknown what happened to Jaganvir after 2E 864, but from rumors within the guild, it was clear that he was leaving soon to take the Battlespire test, leaving the position of Archmage vacant.[2]
