User WikiSysop[edit]

I was looking through the various user groups and there is a user and bureaucrat named WikiSysop who has no pages and no edits or action at all. Is this some sort of default profile or something? --DKong27 Talk Cont 04:04, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

I've always assumed so, although it doesn't seem to exist at some other wikis. Daveh might know. rpeh •TCE 11:17, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Bot Work[edit]

Can you get around to putting your bot on adding the speed tag to the redirects caused by our page moves. But mostly yours. ;) Dang you have a ton of subpages. --DKong27 Talk Cont 04:09, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Also, getting it to auto-undo edits that have NIGGER inside of their edit summaries, along with the phrase telling you to "Man up". That might stop the first wave of the next attack.--I a m g o o f b a l l--Need Something? Drop by on my Talk Page. What I've done for this site. 04:17, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
I saw that you altered the MediaWiki page to include those words. Will that include edit summaries? Either way, hopefully that will at least give some time. The page moving really sucks, that needs to be changed fast.
Afterthought, why weren't those phrases blocked to begin with? Wouldn't that just be good prevention? --DKong27 Talk Cont 04:20, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
I'll just speedy-delete the redirects later - no need for the tag. The Titleblacklist doesn't prevent edit summaries, alas. rpeh •TCE 11:49, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Signature Help[edit]

Three sections to your talk page in one day, I must like you. XD anyway, I was wondering if my signature is showing up in a color for you. It is intended to be orchid (light purple, not pink as my friend insists) but all I see are the hyperlinks, dark purple for visited page. I have seen other users with colored sigs, like GUM!!!, and I am pretty sure that I am using the same notation. I used the template and the standard HTML tags. I can see it fine where the hyperlink is disable, like here. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 04:51, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

You have to colour each link differently. So <font color="#DA70D6">DKong27</font> <font color="#DA70D6">Tk</font> <font color="#DA70D6">Ctr</font> <font color="#DA70D6">Em</font> to give DKong27 Tk Ctr Em . It's a bit cumbersome, but that's the only way. rpeh •TCE 11:57, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! I haven't done much work in HTML, and I am still working out how to use the various functions in conjunction with wiki code. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 15:13, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

User[edit]

The fox was asking for gamertags, why you remove? Also how do you flag a spelling mistake. There is a mistake in a subitle. Cheers --Manic 13:12, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

No he wasn't. User:MichaelFox was asking User:The Fox for a gamertag. I thought your "pure instinct" post was a reaction to my removal of your welcome message - you should really be clearer about what you're trying to do. rpeh •TCE 13:21, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
My bad. I will not argue your removal now I understand why, you are right.. There is one thing you have removed which I was right in though. When the plural of a persons name already ends in s you do not add another s. For example, my name is Lewis. If you wanted to say that coat was mine, you woud spell it, that is Lewis' coat, not Lewis's. So I am going to reinstate the tag. --Manic 14:06, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
Please don't. It's quite correct to add 's even if the word ends in s. See this, or this for instance. rpeh •TCE 14:07, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
It is strange, we were always taught in school never to put another s. I have removed the tag. Sorry for wasting your time rpeh. --Manic 14:09, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
No problem - it's a style thing. Some people do and some don't. I was always taught not to use 's after a double s, but that it was fine after a single - although not required. rpeh •TCE 14:25, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Stopping Page Moves[edit]

Could you possibly add the following to MediaWiki:Titleblacklist in order to prevent new accounts froms moves? Would it even work?

.* <autoconfirmed | moveonly>

I'm not an expert on regular expressions, but I believe that would help in the meantime until Daveh changes the rights completely. Elliot (talk) 17:05, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

CS Help[edit]

I need help with the Construction Set, whenever I try to open up a dialogue window (The one that allows you to see the script notes and everything), it crashes the CS. Nothing else is doing this, but since I'm mainly doing dialogue right now it is going to make it much more likely that I will make a mistake while transcribing dialogue as I can't simply copy and paste it. I'm running the latest version of the construction set and windows if that helps (This bug in fact appeared when I got the new version of windows). Do you have any clue what is going on or can you point me in the right direction for advice to fix this? If you can't help I won't mind, it'll just be a bit more work for me but it would be both quicker and better if I could get this fixed. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:25, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

The only thing I can think is that there's a mod conflict or that you're short of memory. I guess you've already tried dealing with those, so I'm not sure what else to suggest. The fine folks at the TESCS Wiki might know more.
I can email you a file containing dialogue extracted from the CS if it helps. I don't make it available for public download, but for people who clearly have the game it's probably okay. Email me so I have your address and I'll send you a ZIP file. (it's big) rpeh •TCE 23:30, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
I had the same problem. On some audio cards, the CS will crash if you open the dialog windows and you do not have a microphone plugged in. I fixed this by taking an old broken set of ear buds and plugging them into the mic jack in the computer. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 00:40, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I finally got around to testing this, and it turns out you are one hundred percent right Dkong, I was able to open up dialogue windows after plugging in a pair of headphones into my microphone jack. Thanks for helping me out with that. Also, thanks for sending me the dialogue file rpeh, I probably won't need it now but you never know, it might come in handy yet. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:09, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Deleted image still showing[edit]

File:Electronic_cigarette_3123.jpg was deleted a month ago but is still showing up. It's saying the page was deleted, but there is obviously an issue. Any idea? Elliot (talk) 02:40, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Weird. I re-deleted it and it's definitely gone this time. rpeh •TCE 08:59, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Found another one. Elliot (talk) 06:06, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Done. I'm guessing this is caused by some kind of caching problem. rpeh •TCE 08:09, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Ban Warning?[edit]

I was notified I'm about to be banned for "adding nonsense" while editing pages. I don't remember editing anything on this site ever. Can I see what I wrongly edited, or just be told if it's been fixed/removed? Thank you. PS: I will probably be easier to reach over XBL though, Cheeze Ball 23.

More than likley you saw a warning aimed at another user. It is an ongoing problem at the moment. I wouldn't worry about it. --Manic 14:35, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Yup - almost certainly. If you can let us know the page on which you saw the warning message, that would be great. Thanks. rpeh •TCE 14:47, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
It was on the Skyrim page. I am glad I could help.— Unsigned comment by 67.186.158.24 (talk) on 1:01, June 15 2011
Just a question, I was the one that made this question thing right here, but I made this account. Will having an account protect me from this happening?— Unsigned comment by D Pear, 1:07 June 15 2011 (talkcontribs)
I don't think we've had any problems like this with account Users. At least I've never seen an issue like this with an account user. Oh by the way, I've purged the page's cache so there shouldn't be any problems from Skyrim in the near future. Thanks for helping out with this problem.--Kalis AgeaYes? Contrib E-mail 01:32, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Account users should never get the problem because pages aren't cached in the same way. It's always best to get an account for this and other reasons, like being able to edit semi-protected pages. rpeh •TCE 05:31, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Warning[edit]

Hey, i never submitted anything to the wiki. If i did, could you show me? Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 72.42.97.131 (talk) on 14 July 2011

See the preceding conversation - it's an ongoing problem at the moment. rpeh •TCE 06:53, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay, thanks.— Unsigned comment by 72.42.97.131 (talk) at 20:08 on 14 July 2011

Daedric Quests vs Userboxes[edit]

Hey rpeh! You've probably seen that Dwarfmp has uploaded quests images (in the dark) for all Daedric quests. While I love the new images and the mood, I also reckon it makes a few other pages suffer, such as the Lore pages (maybe) and the Userboxes (definitely). So; how do you suggest we solve this? I was thinking about renaming all new Daedric images to the standard OB-quest-yadaya.jpg thing, ad then opload the older images over the redirects, with an OB-img-name. Is that the right way to do it, or do you have other - and easier - suggestions? --Krusty 14:47, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

That sounds like the best idea. One way or another we'll need a new version, and doing the uploads in a way that makes for the smallest amount of work later is definitely the way to go. rpeh •TCE 15:05, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Gotcha. I'm aiming for square images for all img-versions - but I won't rename them the first time 'round. I'll have to see how many links will be affected by a rename first. The quest images should be fine, though. Due to me getting as old as you today, I'm not sure I'll get around to it right away, so hopefully people can live with amputated userboxes for a day or two. :) --Krusty 15:44, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Gah! After clogging up the RC more than ever, I think everything is okay now, with one exception: this image still links to a few userboxes and I can't find where to change the link name to File:OB-Img-ShrineofHircine.JPG - not the worlds biggest Userbox expert, I must admit. Can you make that last fixes? I think it's three Userboxes tops. Afterwards, the original image should be ready for prod. Thanks in advance! --Krusty 19:00, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Fixed, and nowiki tags around the link on this page means there are no links. Ready for your prod, sir! rpeh •TCE 19:18, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! One last question - is it better to simply move the file and overwrite the new OB-quest-Hircine.jpg, just to preserve the original uploader? --Krusty 19:22, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Ideally, yes. Keeping as many details as possible about wiki contributions is always a Good Thing. rpeh •TCE 19:25, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Linkable entries?[edit]

Hey rpeh! I'm trying to make the best out of the Xaselm page, and I have a question; is it possible to make linkable entries to each of the victims, so I can link to them separately? If it is already possible, forgive me for stupidity! --Krusty 10:27, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Done. You now have LEs for Victim1, Victim2, Victim3, Victim4 and Victim5. Have fun! rpeh •TCE 10:42, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! I wonder how much time I have spent in Xaselm all in all? Hopefully this is the last session... :D --Krusty 10:56, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

OPRP help[edit]

Hey Rpeh! I’ve been struggling to make a decent project page out of the OPRP (as promised a long time ago), and I believe I’m getting close. Could you do me a giant favor and read through this attempt when you have a minute? Layout could use some kind of overhaul and maybe the wording gets a bit clumsy at times – so, if you could get it “up-to-UESP-project-standard” (or just give me some constructive criticism) I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance! --Krusty 13:16, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Looks pretty good to me already and is certainly better than the existing project page. You might be better getting one of the project members to take a look, as they're more likely to be able to offer feedback. rpeh •TCE 13:30, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, problem is, SerC went away until late august, and I could really use his feedback now. Well, I think I'll get hold of the other members, as it is merely a question of; is this understandable or not. --Krusty 13:38, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Oh, by the way – we should really rephrase the OPRP tag; it involves template work, so I’m not going to touch it, and you know why! However, I think it should resemble the one for the OBNPCRP, at least the header in bold, with a few minor differences. The word “jurisdiction” has to go for sure, and it should be a simple matter of changing the whole template text into something like:
“This page is currently being redesigned for the OPRP. The page needs in-game walkthrough(s) to go along with the maps and content lists. If you make an addition to this page, please update this template accordingly, but make sure you have observed the project guidelines.” This is just a suggestion, though – it can probably be even more precise.
Lastly, the entire invitation about laving a message on the talk page should be canned. It makes the tag way too big and I have yet to see anybody write a OPRP-related message on the talk page.
Hope you are up for it – almost done! ☺ --Krusty 17:41, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay, done. I basically used your message but left the full project name in just for good measure. rpeh •TCE 18:46, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Brilliant - and thanks! Looks a lot better and less...big! Tomorrow morning (when everything is quiet) I'll correct the layout for all the unwritten pages, just to get it out of the way and keep the project page and the guidelines to a minimum. --Krusty 18:58, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
One last thing; the current OPRP project page has a lot of subpages attached, and my current version doesn't link to any of those. Should we prod them or are they useful for other purposes - this one looks rather useful, but I'm not really sure. --Krusty 12:08, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
I think those are all finished with now. When there were several people doing data dumps, images, maps etc, it made sense to keep track of who was doing what. Now it's obsolete. Prod 'em and I'll take care of deletions next week. rpeh •TCE 12:12, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Glith?[edit]

I'm new to this site, and don't know much about "edits" but I've found a glith.I'm using the staff of worms on mythic Dawn guards and when they resurect and then die, their drop resets and you can pick up a new item. Makes sense? I'm on the PS3 with no expansions or mods. — Unsigned comment by Alzo77 (talkcontribs) on 23 July 2011

I don't think that's a glitch. Many NPCs and creatures exhibit this kind of behaviour, and although it's a little odd it's not really noteworthy. Welcome to the site anyway! rpeh •TCE 07:15, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Talk Pages in General[edit]

Hello! I'm new to this wiki-editing business, so I'm hoping you can answer my question. It seems to me that with many pages, particularly for pages needing cleanup, the Talk page is excessively long, sometimes containing information about outdated versions of the page that no longer exist, or old edit summaries, or "I'll change this to that" messages from, in some cases, YEARS ago that were never completed. Is it ever okay to clean up the TALK page? Are there certain users who perform this type of change? I'm finding that it's hard to know where to start on a project when there's so much conflicting or outdated information just in the discussion about it. (Also, the "show preview" option is not working for this edit for some reason - sorry if there is something wrong with it.) --Llareian 14:44, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Talk pages get archived when they reach the 35-40K mark, but we don't just delete stuff if it's out of date. Sometimes outdated messages mean that things were forgotten about and a reminder might be useful. The guidelines for archiving are here. rpeh •TCE 14:48, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Unmarked Places question[edit]

Hey Rob! I figured I'd point you towards this peaceful discussion? It raises a few (useful) questions about how a few pages were made, and you may be able to shed some light on the questions - and maybe even provide a few suggestions on how to rescue the SI-page... Thanks! --Krusty 23:28, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Hey rpeh im relatively new and ive been short on things to do lately so i was wondering if there was anything on the wiki that would need attention. If so i would be glad to help. I have morrowind and Oblivion (w/ SI and KOTN)BenScoHolm 01:53, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi there. There's always a lot of stuff to do. There's a list of large Projects that might interest you, and the Task List describes some of the smaller tasks, plus the Needs Maintenance category has lots of stuff to do. I hope there's something in that list that grabs your attention. Welcome to the site! rpeh •TCE 05:47, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Shrines' loss of quality[edit]

Hey, something I've been meaning to ask about is a strange issue I've been having while taking screenshots of the Daedric shrines. Somehow Nocturnal's shrine had a lot less detail when I was making a new batch of shots, possibly even the mesh. I've mentioned it a while ago on my talk page, in this section, one of the last posts. It may be weather related, but I wouldn't think that's it. Maybe you have a clue? I didn't have the courage to try making new shots of the shrines since, I wouldn't want to upload an image without knowing it's the best quality ~ Dwarfmp 03:08, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

I seem to recall having a similar problem when I tried to get a new shot. I found it was a lighting issue - if the light shining on the statue's face was too bright, the features merged until they were a blank white mask. Try waiting until the light shines across the front of the statue and the features cast shadows. Good luck, because it's a tricky one. rpeh •TCE 07:20, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
You've probably noticed I've uploaded Nocturnal at night and Nocturnal during the day time. It was indeed somehow the time of day that decreased its quality greatly, as you can see now those new ones are much better detailed. I think those are now as good as it gets. Thanks! ~ Dwarfmp 09:25, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Yup. Those two look great! rpeh •TCE 09:27, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Wide-Eye[edit]

Hey Rpeh! I'm working on Wide-Eye for a moment and I have a problem triggering one line of (rather interesting) dialogue, originally added to the page by SerC. I have been through every combination I can think of, but still nothing: "Oh, you're helping him? Why didn't you say so? I'd do anything for him. Anything at all. Eat my own young if he asked me to... And then he... He goes and does... If I find out who she is, I'll tear her limb from limb! But... You don't need to hear that. You need to know. You need to know what he's asked of you. The Chalice, yes?" I have a feeling the dialogue is somehow related to a stage in the Lady of Paranoia quest, but I thought I'd ask you first. --Krusty 22:02, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay. Step one is to get one of two greetings: "Yes, hatchling? Do you seek Thadon?" or "How can I help you... Sir? Miss? You all look alike to me. It's so hard to tell. Are you here to see Thadon?", both of which appear as long as stage 10 of SE04 hasn't been reached - the former if you're an Argonian, the latter if you aren't. Both greetings give you the SEThadonTopic ("Thadon") response, of which the "Oh, you're helping him?..." line is one of the possibilities. The trouble is that the line only happens if you're ON stage 10 of SE04, and there's another line ("If you are working to help Thadon, I'll tell you whatever I can.") that takes precedence in such a case. In other words, I don't believe it ever gets said. The "Oh" line is marked as a "say once", so it looks to me like they got the lines in the wrong order. If they were the other way around, you'd get the "Oh" once and then the "If" every time after that. I think that's the answer. rpeh •TCE 22:18, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for checking. I got the Argonian/non-Argonian greeting, but hopefully the Oh-line will remain unused even IF you are playing as an Argonian. I don't have any saves to check it, but it sounds unlikely. Too bad about the line, though - it's an interesting part of the conspiracy. --Krusty 22:23, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Gah, I need you to look up a few additional lines that I just can't trigger in-game: "Good cheer and jubilant welcome, lady/lord." seems like an SE07-line, but I can't find it. Also, all her dialogue after the Main Quest seems to be lost: "My hatchlings for you, Lord.", "May all my children serve you well, Lord Sheogorath." and "Protect my little ones, Lord." In all four cases, the question is: why? :) --Krusty 18:42, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
The "Good cheer" and "hatchlings" lines aren't dialogue, they're conversation. That means she'll say them as you're walking past rather than when you're actually talking to her. The first one appears at stage 55+ of Ritual of Mania and the hatchlings line at stage 200+ of The End of Order. The other two lines also only appear at 200+ of TEoO, and they're also part of a "random" group. I think it means they have a roughly 1/10 and 1/8 chance of being spoken, which is why you might not have heard them. rpeh •TCE 08:59, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Dialogue conditions are a nightmare in the Isles, but I managed to get the Ritual line up and running in-game; it basically requires that you, against all common sense, leave the Sacellum right after Syl and Sheo's argument and visit Wide-Eye. Should have seen that one coming! Sheo-dialogue still unresolved, but I have a couple of ideas. Oh and my last slave died from severe CS exhaustion! :D --Krusty 09:26, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

*Small Nudge*[edit]

Hey, rpeh! Just wanted to direct your attention to this brief exchange about a possible Tamriel Rebuilt section on the Task List (though I'd actually prefer a TES4Mod section). I think it's a good idea (especially since it's something I could help out with. XD But there is one problem to consider: I have the distinct feeling not too many people would contribute to this task, even some of those who are knowledgeable enough to do so. Anyways, just thought I'd let you know so that this doesn't fade into the annals of unread Wiki talk posts. Have a great day (though I'd suppose you're actually sleeping right now unless my "calculations" are wrong or you get up at 4:00 AM :D ).--Kalis AgeaYes? Contrib E-mail 04:11, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the nudge, although the Task List is on my watch list so I'd have got there eventually! rpeh •TCE 08:06, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Potential Copyright Issue[edit]

I'm pretty sure you would have or have already seen this, but there is another potential thorn in our side as far as copyrights go. I'm not too sure how long that site will last, but we should definitely keep our eyes open. Elliot (talk) 22:16, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

I've added it to my daily checklist. Judging from the content so far, there's not much to worry about. rpeh •TCE 07:57, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Reminder[edit]

I suddenly remembered this small issue. Maybe you can finish that page now? --Krusty 22:57, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Brilliant. Now it just needs a check of the spells. rpeh •TCE 08:00, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Darn, managed to miss the spells wasn't checked. Regardless, what a nice and almost nostalgic NPC page from "back then"! Just to raise the annoyance factor, remember my last question on Wide-Eye. ;) -- Krusty 08:37, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
Sheesh! Now answered. What did your last slave die of? ;-) rpeh •TCE 08:59, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Ghostly Factions[edit]

Yep, me again! I was looking through the restless souls on the Hill of Suicides and they all share the same odd faction description. The NPC summary says Hale Citizen - but on all pages, the introductory text says they are added to the Creature faction "as soon as the game starts". This is a bit confusing; I can easily figure out what is going on - but shouldn't the creature faction be listed in the NPC Summary, right next to Hale Citizen? I know Factions are not my thing, but I'll go through the Ghosts in the near future and it would be great to figure out how to do the layout. Thanks! --Krusty 22:20, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

I'd prefer to keep the creature faction out of the infobox, but I can see why you might want it the other way. In general, we keep the infobox for factions that hold the NPC while in the CS, and the HoS NPCs aren't in the Creature faction. Each of them has a script, and in the "onload" part, they get added to the Creature faction. If you don't want it in the main text, it might be better as a note. rpeh •TCE 08:19, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Like I said, it's not my area so thanks for clarifying. I think it will go as a note, just to avoid too much confusion. --Krusty 09:08, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
