Quest image?[edit]

Hey Rob! I just composed what I thought was an ideal quest image for the Dawnstar:Quest Walkthrough page. Image is here and shows all four Champions next to each other. However, when I add the image to the quest header template, it shrinks the image and removes the alpha channel. Any way to solve this? I can reluctantly live with the missing alpha and the frame, but the really small image is an annoyance. Any way to keep the image 275 x 108px on the quest page? --Krusty 19:28, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

I could add an extra param to the Quest Header template but it seems like a bit of overkill for just one image. I think there might be some DF images that might find it useful but even so... I'll take a look later. rpeh •TCE 19:38, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
I remember a few DF pages as well (can't find any at the moment, though), but don't break your neck tweaking the template, as I'm not even sure how good that happy-family image will look on the page. Right now, the biggest problem with DS is the size of the images; they will start to look weird even with the smallest attempt of resizing and the Champions image was an attempt to squeeze a bigger image out of the small png's. Again, if it is a huge task, don't bother. I might be able to do some fan art or something. Maybe it was a bad idea adding the quest header template in the first place, but it kindda makes the page a bit "better" and more UESP, if you know what I mean. --Krusty 22:09, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Turns out there's a "nothumb" param to stop the image being treated as a thumbnailo. That does what you need but it means you can't use a caption. That okay? rpeh •TCE 10:06, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
More than okay! Thanks for looking into it. The four champions are a bit boring, though, but for now better than that blurry Gehenoth image. I think I'll have to do some real pixel work and get the Gehenoth made in better resolution, with an alpha. Thanks again. --Krusty 14:22, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

AKB[edit]

I don't mean to whine but I made a post on the Skyrim talk page asking if the developers had mentioned anything about the nerevarine being in Skyrim, or did the developers send the nervarine to akavir to get rid of him. And then Akb deleted saying it had nothing to do with skyrim and sounded like a forum post. So i posted on his talk page saying i was asking a question on the content of Skyrim and he deleted that section with the summary "I dont care". Dont patrollers have to answer our questions?Sorry again if I sound whiny I just wanted an answer. Kinvalor75 18:28, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Patrollers don't have to answer questions. I tend to leave things unanswered if I don't want to respond, although there have been a couple of exceptions over the years.
Your post on the Skyrim talk page was a forum-like post. It's not about improving the page or even a question about the game itself so it should be asked on the forums rather than here. rpeh •TCE 18:30, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

But I was asking on the content of the game! The rest of the talk page were all questions. Kinvalor75 18:32, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

See, this is why I don't like forums. 1) The Nerevarine going to Akavir is only a rumor. 2) What does Akavir have to do with TESV? 3) How the hell do we know anyway? rpeh •TCE 18:34, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

I remembered hearing something about it somewhere in oblivion. Must have been random talk? I meant to ask if the developers had mentioned anything about the nerevarine being in Skyrim, I ramble on sometimes I admit. I shouldn't have mentioned Akavir, that was just where I had heard the Nerevarine went. Sorry to waste your time running this site is probably hard enough without people like me. Kinvalor75 18:39, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

New Template[edit]

I'm not sure exactly about the Wiki rules on Templates, but I was wondering if it would be alright to make a Template:Uns, a redirect to Template:Unsigned. Mostly for being lazy when editing unsigned pages. --DKong27 Talk Cont 20:19, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Personally I frown on template redirects these days. I think they're lazy, and they don't save much time - especially in a case like this where you're saving a grand total of 5 letters. If you want to create it, go ahead, but please make sure you add it to the relevant category. rpeh •TCE 20:30, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Lobbying for the Umbra poison trap tip[edit]

Hey, I'd like to lobby for having the information included in my edit for the Umbra article restored in some form.

First, the only skill required to successfully pull it off is acrobatics and a simple apprentice level fortify spell (Fortify Agility 50 for 3 sec on self) does the trick. Lesser fortify enhancements or native skills may work; I haven't had time to test it.

Second, since this doesn't require combat it can be useful for a level 1 character trying to complete the main quest without a lot of frustration.

If you're strongly against adding another tip section, perhaps a shortened version can be used to correct the bullet point above which leads you to believe the traps are of limited usefulness. — Unsigned comment by 173.173.75.247 (talk) on 7 April 2011

But that means you need to have got into the Arcane University or completed the Frostcrag Tower quest so you can craft your own spells. This is all far too much effort for one way of beating an NPC when other methods are already described. Bring it up on the article's talk page if you still think I'm wrong - other people may agree with you. My view is that when we have too many tips, the article becomes less useful because it's less clear. rpeh •TCE 12:06, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
o Let me find some time to determine the exact level of Acrobatics needed and if it remains feasible after I know that then I'll post on the discussion page. (Probably should have gone there first anyway.)

Awesome Page!!![edit]

Hi rpeh I was just looking at your page and was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to make my page like that. Sorry if this is innapropriete (SP?) for this page or if it should be in the forums or something instead. Count Marius Caro 20:49, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks! Honestly, it's not that complex. If you look, it's just three vertical columns - the userboxes, the main text, and the image. If you want to learn about tables, see this page, which gives you all the necessary information. The slightly complex bit is in the middle column, where I use this template to generate the repeating sections. If you want to roll your own, your best bet is to look up a good CSS reference and start from there. Have fun! rpeh •TCE 21:05, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks rpeh! Count Marius Caro 09:35, 9 April 2011 (UTC) I am still not sure how to make a table because I used the guide you put in and it did not work it just came up with the codes I had put in. How do you do it? Count Marius Caro 14:44, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

You missed the start of the table tag. Re-read this page to see what you did wrong. rpeh •TCE 16:24, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey...[edit]

I would like some advice. I would like to know when you think I could go for Recent Changes Partoller? JackTurbo95 08:31, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Looks like you're quite some way off meeting the qualifications at the moment: you have less than 70 edits to content space, and you need at least 250. Please don't try to make that up with lots of tiny edits because that'll count against you in the long run. Good luck. rpeh •TCE 08:35, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Right thanks! I will work as hard as possible. =D JackTurbo95 08:37, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Content-Space Patrollership[edit]

As above, I've been wondering if I am qualified for the job of being a Recent Changes Patroller. I know (Or at least am positive that I do) meet the technical qualifications. However, having read through all past nominations I've seen many blown by some other reason. So I guess my question is do you think I meet the spoken and unspoken qualifications. As of right now it seems to me like a matter of either waiting two months when I am absolutely ready or three months because I failed the nomination. Considering you are one of (If not the most) qualified editor to judge another editors merits I'd feel more comfortable going forward with your blessing. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 19:13, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Well you certainly meet the technical qualifications, and I can personally say you've been on my list of potential patrollers for some time now, so yes I'll be voting for you. You're a little Oblivion-centric, but that's not a problem - just don't get carried away and start patrolling things you can't judge.
On another note, and I should have said this when JackTurbo asked me the same question, I'm not comfortable with being treated as some kind of cult figure whose blessing is required before a nomination can be made. I'm aware that my view carries quite a bit of weight because of the work I've done on the site, but that doesn't mean it's more important than anyone else's. While I don't have a problem with AKB asking in this case, because I hadn't said anything before, I won't be responding to any future requests of this nature. rpeh •TCE 19:35, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Quick Question[edit]

Hey rpeh! I have a problem locating the "turn handle" at F on this map. It seems like the page have been written and checked already and I simply can't find that handle. If you could take a quick look in the CS and figure it out, I will be most grateful! --Krusty 11:27, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I can't find it either. It's not quick though - there's a mass of stuff going on in the CS. I'll try to work it out. rpeh •TCE 11:54, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Okay, it looks to me like that handle is never actually visible. The other handle in that cave is definitely the one that makes the trapdoor to the hidden area visible. rpeh •TCE 12:00, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I was going crazy looking for that handle and even tried all possible combinations with the other two. I'll update the walkthroughs and descriptions on the page later today. --Krusty 12:18, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism[edit]

Why did you accuse me of vandalism? — Unsigned comment by 129.2.129.219 (talk) on 12 April 2011

I didn't. I accused the user with IP 96.4.127.21 of vandalism, because he or she made these two edits. I don't understand why you are looking at that user's page. rpeh •TCE 14:43, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Uhhhh...[edit]

I've never edited anything on this site. Please don't falsely accuse me of vandalism. I don't appreciate it. — Unsigned comment by 108.23.106.128 (talk) on 14 April 2011

This is rapidly becoming tedious. I've never accused you of vandalism. I have no idea why you think I have. rpeh •TCE 08:24, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Another anonymous user here. Apparently the actions of a user has appeared for both of us on the front page of the UESP site, despite neither of us being the user responsible for the vandalism. Simply put, it's an IP address mixup. I know for a fact I've seldom touched an edit button except for fixing a few typos that did not have a "sic" label on them. As far as I'm concerned, I am not on a proxy server connection. — Unsigned comment by 24.190.207.237 (talk) on 26 apr 2011

If you click on the contribs link after your IP on this message, you will see that your current IP does not have any edits other than this one message, so you would not have been accused of anything. Your talk page for that IP is empty. --Brf 16:14, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Additionally, it doesn't appear on the front page for everybody - just users with that IP. rpeh •TCE 16:58, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

I am accused of vandalism aswell[edit]

96.4.127.21 is not my IP, yet i can see the block. I also do not appear to be blocked from editing.

A bug maybe? 92.226.92.23 22:34, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Why were you using a proxy server? rpeh •TCE 07:58, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm another anonymous user who was accused of vandalism despite not having posted any changes to the wiki. I wanted to post the report here instead of spamming your page with another vandalism topic. 71.99.190.10 21:29, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Probably too late to ask, but which page were you on and which talk page were you directed to? rpeh •TCE 10:16, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

The whereabouts of Lucien Lachance[edit]

Hey Rob! As promised, here are a few questions about Lucien Lachance limited schedule(s). He is a tough customer to write, and I have found plenty of information on various talk pages, so this is merely a double-check so we can get it right the first time.
1: The first and second time you encounter Lucien will be after sleeping. When he leaves you, he casts chameleon(?) and then seems to disappear at some point. How much chameleon and is it true that he is disabled when he enters a new cell?
2: In Fort Farragut, he will just stand around all day and night, without doing anything. Was he supposed to do something?
3: After the Ungolim kill, he will appear in Bravil (enabled?). After yelling at you, he will once again cast the Cham, but, according to my best observations, will RUN all the way to Applewatch. Is this true?
That’s it. Basically, what I’m after is information on when he is disabled/enabled during his brief appearances – and how much Cham he uses. Hope you can find the time and, as always, there’s absolutely no rush. --Krusty 07:44, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I'll take a look at these later and get back to you. rpeh •TCE 08:16, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh boy this is complex. The answers seem to be:
  1. 50%; It looks like he disappears (moved to a special "holding cell") if the player is no longer in the same cell as him. Typically that will be when he leaves the current cell, but it could also happen if you run off quickly and leave the cell first.
  2. Nope - that's all he does.
  3. That seems to be right.
It's tricky because there are actually three Luciens, not two as we currently state. There are two versions of the first one (called LucienLachanceMurderRef and LucienLachanceFarragutRef internally) and then the Hunted version. There's a lot of stuff going on to move them to various places, enable them, disable them, etc. Really tricky to follow! rpeh •TCE 14:43, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Gah! Seems like I just can’t cook up easy questions! Very well, I did some testing with the very first Lucien appearance; I slept on the mat behind Roxey Inn and talked to him. He then cast the spell and took off. With Detect Life I was able to follow him and watched him disappear completely just before he reached the Red Ring Road. I think it is safe to assume that he is totally disabled when he reaches a new cell, whether or not you are there with him. I have no idea how it works, but that sounds easy to explain. As for the 3rd version of Lucien, we may have to mention that in the Notes section of his page, at least to prevent being incorrect. Luckily, we are not talking serious, complex schedules – only an ocean of enabling/disabling! ;) Thanks for looking into it! --Krusty 15:50, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
It'll always be almost totally impossible to enter a cell at exactly the same time as Lucien, so even if you follow him really closely, he'll vanish when you hit the cell border. rpeh •TCE 16:11, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't supose you could hunt down the BaseID we're missing from his page could you? Mxk already tracked down the missing RefID, as well as a listing of when each living variant is used, so that Base would be the last bit of info we need. Thanks in advance. Dlarsh(T,C) 23:54, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Umm, Glabrio Bellienus...[edit]

Hello, I read that you are 35% convinced of having every NPC in every book being described, and I would like to propose you, Personal Secretary to the Emperor, Glabrio Bellienus. Since you know lots of stuff about lore, you might know something about this guy? 86.81.80.104 19:10, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Never heard of him. rpeh •TCE 19:27, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Doing a search, it appears he's the author of Directions to Caius Cosades and the Package for Caius Cosades. However, these are extremely game-related. In my opinion he doesn't deserve his own lore entry. Legoless 19:32, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Probably not. Thanks to the anon, but I really don't want to do these one at a time! rpeh •TCE 19:36, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I moved the Tutorial page to "Tutorial" from "Escape from Prison", but...[edit]

It's actually not too much of a problem. There aren't any broken links or double redirects so the existing links will work as usual. Thanks for doing the move. rpeh •TCE 05:50, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

A few images, perhaps?[edit]

Hey Rob! With the help of Dlarsh, Lucien Lachance’s page is almost ready to launch (it is sandboxed here), but while Matthieu succeeded without any images at all, Lucien is a different (and much more complex) NPC. Dlarsh just went on vacation, so there is no rush with this, but I better pass on his image suggestions before I forget – and hopefully, you are up for a few dark images, so we can get this huge page out of the way.
Suggestions:

  • A shot of Lucien at the foot of the bed (first encounter). Now, I’m not sure this is possible, but it would be great.
  • A shot of Lucien in Fort Farragut, with that lit up Black Hand banner in the background.
  • A shot of Lucien in Bravil, if possible.
  • A disgusting shot of Lucien’s mutilated corpse (without any DB members)

Oh, and as you can see in the notes section of his sandbox, the newly discovered third version of Lucien could use some IDs. Hope you can find the time - and thanks in advance. --Krusty 16:08, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Hmm. I'll see what I can do. Not sure that first one's possible, but it'll be an interesting one to try to get. rpeh •TCE 10:59, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I can't get exactly the sort of shot you want for the first one. If you don't like the image at the bandit camp, just delete it. I'm not going to be able to do much better. Here are the four images: First Encounter; In Fort Farragut; In Bravil; Mutilated. I did them all as 4:3 images, but they can be cut down to 1:1 if that's what you'd prefer. I hope those are okay! rpeh •TCE 11:49, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Brilliant - thanks a lot! I know it is hard to do the wake-up-one, at least without cheating and everything, so we will try with this. The rest of the shots are marvelous and should be in 4:3 (I forgot to mention that), so they are all correct. I'll let Dlarsh decide and do the layout when he gets around - and hopefully, we can bury Lucien in the very near future. Cheers! --Krusty 11:56, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey.[edit]

Hey Rob , there's this guy who vandalised Nephele's page. I weren't to sure what to do , so what do you think ? JackTurbo95 13:41, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

The anon already received a warning in the past and subsequent vandalism will result in a block, so consider it done. --Krusty 13:53, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

clashing quests[edit]

dear rpeh if you were to complete bloodmoon main quest to just before hircines hunt and then started tribunals line of quests where would the assasin go?

youres sincerly (Retsam 15:12, 25 April 2011 (UTC))

The assassins only appear when you sleep, but it doesn't always happen. You'd probably get the hunt as usual and no assassin, but I honestly have no idea. rpeh •TCE 15:14, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

thanks(Retsam 15:15, 25 April 2011 (UTC))

Modryn Oreyn[edit]

Hey rpeh! Hopefully, there will not be too many of these questions with Modryn, but one of the usual oddities appeared – and needs a bit of investigation in the CS. After ordering you to meet him in Leyawiin (stage 35 of the Azani Blackheart quest) – WHAT will he do? I tried waiting for him and he left the cabin at 12pm (could be a coincidence), marched to the southern gate and through it. Outside, he took a few steps then disappeared completely. I smell another Lucien disappearance, but I wanted to make sure before writing it on his page. Basically – how does his packages look at this point in the quest? Thanks in advance! --Krusty 22:49, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

He has an AI package that runs when FGD05Oreyn is at stage 35 that should take him to a mark in the middle landing of the Leyawiin Fighters Guild, but there's a script for the quest that changes things. If the quest is at stage 35, and the player is not in Chorrol, Oreyn is teleported straight to the same marker in the Leyawiin FG guildhall. In other words, if you stay in Chorrol, he'll walk the whole way; if you leave, he'll teleport (yes, it might take a couple of moments for the script to run).
There's some extra stuff that goes on at some point in Atatar, but I don't think that affects his movement. rpeh •TCE 22:59, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Gotcha. Reminds me of the behavior of Quill-Weave during her visit to Chorrol. If you stay in Chorrol, so will she - if you leave, she will leave right away. Odd, but easy to explain in a note. Thanks a lot! --Krusty 23:03, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Image Reverts[edit]

I noticed you reverted a couple images that were uploaded by Mxk101. All of the ones he uploaded today are squished like that. --Brf 23:34, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

I didn't see the others. If you've spotted more, please revert them too. rpeh •TCE 23:40, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
The one of Elone has the strange perspective too, but they all look like their proportions are wrong -- like they have been foreshortened horizontally. --Brf 23:43, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
It looks to me as if he took a rectangular image and then squished it square. If I stretch it horizontally by a third, it looks about right. --Brf 23:51, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Hmm... I'd prefer new images. Stretched images = ugly images in my book. rpeh •TCE 23:55, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I think it's because Morrowind doesn't have any square formats by default and I'm using Morrowind FPS Optimizer which is forcing them into a square format. mxk101Talk 07:28, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
You can't rely on shots straight from the game. All my screenshots come out at 1680x1050 (which is why a lot of the older images have that size) and I have to trim and resize them, as well as correct the colours slightly. You're going to need an image editing program of some kind. rpeh •TCE 07:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Is this image ssuitable? I took it at 1024 x 768 and cropped it down. mxk101Talk 08:01, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
That's pretty good. Getting the NPC closer to the center would be great, but that's certainly better than the squished ones. rpeh •TCE 08:10, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

() Is this alright? If it is I'm going to start taking more screenshots. mxk101Talk 08:51, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Again, it could be better centered - he's too far to the left - but otherwise it's fine. rpeh •TCE 08:58, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
These new ones are nice. Good colors and sharp. :) --Brf 17:38, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey Rpeh :)[edit]

I am sorry to have missed your birthday, Im sure you had a great time! :), anyway, I wished to ask a question, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion_talk:Construction_Set#Off_Topic_question could you scroll down to the bottom of the page and answer that question, as you seem to have knowledge on the CS, sorry if I posted this on the wrong page or something, thanks :)

Wow. Sorry, but that's way beyond the level of my expertise! I can look stuff up in the CS, but I wouldn't know where to begin changing the player's model. rpeh •TCE 18:28, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Don't worry, it's beyond the capabilities of the game scripting as well. It requires OBSE. Legoless 20:26, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Is this fake[edit]

[1] --Candc4 18:36, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean by "fake". It's definitely an in-game document, but it's in some form of code. I haven't had any luck decrypting that one yet. rpeh •TCE 18:29, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
oh to me it looked like someone made it as a joke--Candc4 18:36, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Item IDs[edit]

I tried some of the Item and NPC IDs if found listed on this wiki in game and they didn't work. Then I checked in the CS and is turns out that they were false. You might want to check some of the Item and NPC IDs for Oblivion thank you. — Unsigned comment by 199.216.95.253 (talk) at 15:28 on April 28, 2011

You have to be careful about the differences between BaseIDs and RefIDs. The Base is the ID for all of that type. The Reference is a specific instance. Some console codes only take one of the two numbers. Anything randomly generated cannot have its RefID posted. See here for more information. --DKong27 Talk Cont 20:54, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
If you found what you think is a problem, please tell us where. I'm not going to rule out the possibility of an error, but I've used many of those IDs myself and not found anything wrong. It's more likely that DKong27 has identified what you did wrong. rpeh •TCE 21:05, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Need password change[edit]

Recently, PSN went down. I need the password here changed because I think it got stolen by the hackers who brought down the network. You are an admin so I need it changed.--Iamgoofball 05:10, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

You don't need an Administrator to change your password; simply go to "My Preferences" on the top bar (to the right of "my talk") and there's a section for changing your password. Kalis Agea 05:16, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm no admin (Just a lowly patroller though you seemed to think otherwise) but to change your password just go here and change your password to whatever you want it to be, you need to at least know your current password though to change it. BTW, how could I possibly know your password the the Play Station Network? We don't have an connections too Sony do we? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 05:22, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
The other two are right - you can do this yourself. I can't change anybody's password anyway; I believe Daveh can do it by hacking the database, but that's a little extreme. rpeh •TCE 09:27, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Alright, USEP and Neverwinter Nights passwords are changed.....Up next is Runescape, as long as I don't have to go through a gigantic survey. They seem to be fond of those.--Iamgoofball 16:10, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Re, AKB: The password for playstation network might be the same a his e-mail password. If it is, then they might get it through his e-mail.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 20:39, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
