Block Him[edit]

Please block this user 65.31.163.119 and Dagobah Crowbar 22:11, 31 August 2008 (EDT) I hope i have helped protect this wiki. Crowbar 22:22, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

You have. Thank you. The ip address has been banned. Dagobah will keep the warning you gave for now meaning that any further vandalism will result in a block. –RpehTCE 00:27, 1 September 2008 (EDT)

Edit of Bleaker's Way[edit]

I took out the second NPCs living here table. It might have been there for a reason, but I don't know. If its needed I have it on my page just in case.

Thanks. That's strange - I could have sworn I'd had that problem before and already fixed it. Anyway. For future reference, you don't need to keep copies of material - the page history lets us roll back to any previous stage. –RpehTCE 00:35, 2 September 2008 (EDT)
Okay thanks:)--Albinobear43 02:10, 2 September 2008 (EDT)

Thanks, Apologies and a Cookie![edit]

Thank you kind sir for the welcome and it's always good to hear from a fellow ABOFAL fan. I apologise for my lack in use of the Preview button, I'll rectify that post haste. The lid, by the way, is down the side of the sofa but I will put it on top of the piano, next to the jar. I hope you are aware you may have opened Pandora's Box now, as I may bug you from time to time for assistance. I hope that's OK? Mr. Dalliard? -Uniquely Fascinating 09:12, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

No problem - I'm always ready with a helping hand! Just remember that I have never had an Opal Fruit on me. –RpehTCE 09:38, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Category:Propsed Deletion[edit]

Hi Rpeh,

Category:Proposed Deletion seems to be broken. When I open it, I don't get an alphabetical list, I get everything listed under "2". The page worked yesterday, I remember, but I have no idea what may have caused this. Maybe it's related to the vandalism somehow? - Game LordTalk|Contribs 11:14, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Yeah that's right. Proposed Deletion lists in date order, so it's easy to dell what's due for deletion. If you want to list in alphabetical order, check out Category:Marked for Deletion instead. It lists Speedy Deletions and Deletion Reviews too, but does at least do it in alphabetical order. –RpehTCE 12:09, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Why revert?[edit]

When I finally start to help the wiki to be accurate, you revert my edits! I won't stop until that icon is replaced by the new one, we don't want some users to be confused (like I have been many times), eh? --Lord Walter TCW 12:36, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Because it's going to be a real pain when we have to ask the users who use it to change to a new version. Because a different name isn't that much of a deal. It'll be much, much easier just to change your two references to the new one and then delete it. –RpehTCE 12:38, 4 September 2008 (EDT)
But I a offering myself to do all of that! I want the wiki to be accurate, and you don't have sweat over this, just delete the old image and let me replace it, that is the first thing I want to be done on this wiki since I started to edit... --Lord Walter TCW 12:43, 4 September 2008 (EDT)

Drothmeri army[edit]

Hi there, me again to bother you. I was just reading the Unearthing Mehrunes Razor page when i noticed there wasn't any page on the Drothmeri army. (veterans, recruits, archers) Am i overlooking something or was it decided not to give them a page?--LordDagon 08:13, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

Hi again. The Drothmeri Army is on the Task List as are the poor Laborers. If you want to create a page or pages - go for it! –RpehTCE 08:19, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
No problem, though I'm incapable of giving them the correct info(health, magicka, ...) or images.
Ok, this page shall be the army page!--LordDagon 08:25, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
That's fine. Any missing params like health automatically get the page added to the Pages Needing Verification category so somebody else will know to pick them up. Good luck! –RpehTCE 08:27, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

Ok, I filled in info on their weapons, leaders and armor. --LordDagon 08:38, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

And here is our new Laborers page.--LordDagon 11:11, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

Editing Lore:Third Era Fifth Century[edit]

Hi! I was wondering if you'd be able to fix the "Daedric Invasion of Tamriel" part of 3E433 because it doesnt seem to be formatted right or something. I tried to fix it myself but I just cant seem to get it right or see what exactly is wrong with it when I open up the edit page.-Talos 10:22, 7 September 2008 (EDT)

Done. The end of the template had got deleted. Thanks for pointing that out. –RpehTCE 10:28, 7 September 2008 (EDT)

Couldnt help noticing[edit]

Hi rpeh, i happend to be looking over your userpage earlier and noticed the line "In Real Life, I'm currently working as a developer for a large shipping company as a developer and general nerd", i know there are more importatnt things going on right now, but couldnt help wondering if this was a mistake with you repeating half a sentence --Volanaro TCE 10:30, 7 September 2008 (EDT)

Oh god! just saw what our old "friend" was up to yesterday, sorry i wasnt around to stop him i set aside yesterday for socialising inrealife, typical. --Volanaro TCE 12:46, 7 September 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for #1 - left over from an earlier edit, I think. As for number two... yes. It was so nice to see him again. One month block this time - next time will be for good. –RpehTCE 13:11, 7 September 2008 (EDT)

Tag on Oblivion:Mercantile[edit]

I couldn't agree more, this page is a mess. Travb 18:24, 10 September 2008 (EDT)

I cleaned it up a lot after you added the clean up tag, what do you think now? Please messaged me on my page, thanks.Travb 23:15, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

Edit - minor edit[edit]

What is the diffrence between a normal edit and a minor edit? -Goblin lair 21:57, 11 september 2008

The definitive answer to that is here. Basically, "A check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: typo corrections, formatting and presentational changes, rearranging of text without modifying content, et cetera. A minor edit is a version that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. An edit marked as minor appears on the right of a lower case, bolded "m" character (m) in the history."
One other difference is that you can hide minor edits in the Recent Changes page. –RpehTCE 16:04, 11 September 2008 (EDT)
Ok, thanks! -Goblin lair 22:15, 11 September 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for the welcome![edit]

Thanks Rpeh! And I am quite impressed with your knowledge of the Orkneys! My family is from there and I went back there two years ago, Maes Howe was actually a burial ground that is laden with gold and illuminates on the sunset of the summer solstice. I have enjoyed the Elder Scroll series since the release of Morrowind and have probably logged in close to a thousand hours to Morrowind and Oblivion. Looking forward to any more astute observations you have, Jim — Unsigned comment by Maes Howe (talkcontribs) on 12 September 2008

I went there on a great holiday a couple of years ago and visited Maes Howe - indeed, it was just visible from the cottage we rented. It was the Viking graffiti that particularly amused me! I just wish I had known Ingigerth :) –RpehTCE 14:19, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

Armourer vs. Armorer[edit]

The game conform nomenclature would be Armorer, and an explanation for the BE spelling is also easily given. The one who made the original entries used the outputs that come from the program ATLAS. I've uploaded this tool myself about a month ago, after I was able to find it on the web. Since you now have the game, you can try it and see the immense dimension of the game's scene and that it is only possible to generate such a vast ambiance by using prefabricated dungeon-modules and prefabricated block-elements for towns/cities. I wanted to change the related articles myself, basically capital cities, and apply the "City Summary Template" but I never could bring myself to do this. I did a similar task once. When I overworked all articles regarding regions, and it took me about six hours to do this. Therefore almost all capitals use the non-game conform nomenclature for their stores, resulting in so many unused linkings.--PLRDLF 17:23, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

I shall take my leave[edit]

Well, this is it, as of the next few minutes im going to be inactive for at lesast a few weeks (and just as i was starting to get back into TES!) hope to see you and everyone else soon and should i not be able to return at all for some reason i wish you the best in the future, cya soon hopefully --Volanaro TCE 03:26, 15 September 2008 (EDT)

Good luck! Hope to see you back soon. –RpehTCE 03:29, 15 September 2008 (EDT)

Got a Question??[edit]

I am really new to this particular site, as far as the Game goes I own the GOTY edition (well, Oblivion IV The Elder Scrolls, if that is technically the GOTY edition) with all 3 expansions for the PS3 and I am a Master of all right now! Just messing around with shivering isles finding things now for a past time!! My question is, I have the new PS3 80 gig and I was wondering, these patches everyone is talking about for computer GOTY and xbox GOTY, Do they have one accessible for the PS3 ?? I have noticed a few glitches in my game as well, and I see most are fixed with the patch, but I am unfamiliar with the how to "do" it and where to "get" it stuff!! I don't even know if ONE is available for PS3 at all...thought maybe you could shed some light for me!!

Jenn!!

PS: How do I get a cool page like you have?? WOW!! Neato!! I feel like one of the "Envious" Grummites now! hehehheheee

Jenn!!

You don't need to patch your game on PS3 - the standard version is already patch 1.2 (wich is the last patch available to any platform.). For more info see this page. --LordDagon 12:02, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
I'm a PC player so I don't know for certain about the PS3 version. There's information here that should help, and we believe that the PS3 has all the latest patches.
As for the page... our help pages will give you a good start on how to format stuff on the wiki, and please feel free to ask if you have any specific questions. And welcome to the wiki! –RpehTCE 12:08, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
Well the reason I asked about the patch is that I too cannot access the throne of Mania, meaning I chose to kill Thadon and I cannot sit on his throne, I thought I saw where a patch fixed that, in my readings, maybe I was wrong! Not that it is important that I sit on his throne, I just want to make sure all is working correctly! yanno??
Jenn!! aka Pinkee 12:13, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
Unfortunately that bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, which is available only for PC players. See the bugs section of the quest page. Sorry! –RpehTCE 12:24, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

Thanks so much for the info, you have been a great help!! now I need not worry about bugs and fixes for my PS3, there aren't any!! hehhehe...Thanks again!!

Simple Questions[edit]

Hi Rpeh, thanks for all of your help in the past. These are questions that I've always wondered.

  • What is an "Area"?
What exactly is the definition of an "area"? Is it determined by distance (feet/radius) or by county/region (Skingrad/West Weald) In game message "Loading area" seems to show up every 5 seconds if I run while it's raining. If I'm in the White Stallion Lodge and an essential NPC is unconcious near Greyland, I will be alerted. That's at least 300 feet away.
  • Aggression
I know the figures. But for example dogs (generic) unless they actually see me kill their master, they won't attack. There is no way to charm or bribe a dog, and my character's personality or speechcraft skill should have no effect. How are creatures aggression score increased or decreased?
  • Beggars and their disposition towards PC
With almost any NPC, PC can drink 4x Cheap Wines, draw their weapon and lower their disposition. But somehow with the beggars it seems impossible to "trick" them. Damaging my personality, draining it with a spell, or with an enchantment never works. It seems once their disposition reaches 100, the only way to lower it is by commiting a crime. I just want to give them more money (bribe) but their disposition towards me is nearly always 100. How do they differ from other NPCs?
  • Random Oblivion Gates and how to spawn them
I've of course read the article on the Random Oblivion Gates and their possible locations. But how can I increase the probability of one spawning at a certain location without progressing further in the main quest? To be more specific, I would like one to spawn south east of the Arcane University but it won't spawn there. I've loaded my older save numerous times and also made sure that there are 3 more random gates that could spawn. (Checked all possible location)

Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is not simple enough, it's as simple as I can write.Webdemon00 15:54, 21 September 2008 (EDT)

Sorry. No idea on any of those. –RpehTCE 02:00, 22 September 2008 (EDT)
No need for an appologie Rpeh, thanks for replying at least. If you don't know then I guess I will never find out... I did have couple others questions I wanted to ask you but they are even more minor/unimportant than those above but far more complexed. I think it's for the best that I just forget about them and try to enjoy the game. Thanks again.--Webdemon00 11:27, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

New Generic Userboxes[edit]

Ok, so I'm on my parents laptop right now, due to the backlight on mine crapping out, and I'm on IE and all the userboxes on my page, have no text. All I see are little squares with the userboxes icons. Whats going on? 24.226.23.56 12:43, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

Whoops, forgot to login DaedryonTCE 12:44, 22 September 2008 (EDT)
Just tried it again. I can see the text. DaedryonTCE 12:44, 22 September 2008 (EDT)
So... everything is fine? –RpehTCE 12:58, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

Daggerfall Quest Deletions[edit]

Given that a more complete explanation for the Daggerfall quest deletions is apparently not forthcoming, it looks like I'll have to ask explicitly. Because frankly the provided link to the discussion on deleting redirects leaves me more puzzled, rather than less.

I was fully aware of the discussion about deleting redirects before my edits last night. As a result, I intentionally avoided deleting any redirects when I reviewed the articles in the proposed deletion category; I limited my mandated review of the proposed deletions to non-redirect articles. If I had thought that the discussion had any relevance on the Daggerfall quest redirects, I would not have made any changes to those articles. However, a discussion about whether to be more cautious about deleting redirects does not, as far as I can tell, mean that previously acceptable reasons for preserving redirects have been invalidated.

My reasons for undoing the Daggerfall quest redirects were, in essence, the same as my reasons for preserving Dragonfire Castle, the Shirt Off His Back, or Mod Management: the names have been in place for a significant period and therefore the names are ones that are familiar to readers. A name that has been in place and recommended by the site for nearly a year should not be erased overnight because we come up with a new name.

These reasons are particularly relevant for the Daggerfall quests. The Daggerfall quests do not have any official names, so the recent renaming process just replaced one arbitrary, made-up quest name with another arbitrary name. There is no inherent reason to prefer the new name over the old name; we cannot turn to the construction set to tell us what the official name is; we cannot expect readers to search for a quest using an established name. The only "official" name for these quests up until now has been the name that UESP previously assigned to the quests, so we should not just discard that name. Even two months from now deleting these quest names would seem premature.

Furthermore, the specific reason given for deleting the redirects was (and still is) invalid: each of the proposed deletions claims that the articles are orphaned, but in fact none of them are orphans. It has always been acceptable to remove proposed deletion tags from articles that do not qualify for deletion, and normal practice has been to fix identified problems before reinstating the tag.

Finally, even if there was a reason to question whether or not the Daggerfall quests should be deleted, the articles clearly no longer qualify for proposed deletion. Proposed deletion should only be used for non-controversial, uncontested deletions. Reasons have now been provided why these articles should not be deleted, which automatically means that the deletions are no longer non-controversial. The same policy should apply to these articles as to every other article on the site: if a proposed deletion is questioned, then the article no longer qualifes for proposed deletion. Instead, the article must go through a deletion review.

I fail to see anything in the linked discussion that overrides the deletion review process, or explains why legitimate reasons for maintaining redirects should be dismissed. In fact, your most recent post states that 'if there's a valid reason for keeping a redirect, somebody can "remove the prod explaining in an edit summary why the links can't be fixed".' What have I done that causes my contributions to be exempt from the same consideration given to other editors? --NepheleTalk 22:11, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

The entire purpose of the debate is to decide whether this type of redirect should be treated differently in future and your prod removal seemed to indicate that you weren't aware of it. You didn't provide a reason beyond exactly the thing that is being discussed. If in fact you were aware of the discussion it makes your action even more surprising given that it's usually you who insists on full debates taking place before actions are performed.
It's different from the situation with Wrye Bash because in that case there are known links that can't be fixed. You are simply assuming that there may be links. You didn't explain why any links that do exist can't be fixed so I'm not sure what the point of quoting my post is.
As far as the deletion policy is concerned, I'd point out that I could already have deleted those links but didn't because of the ongoing debate. You chose to ignore that with your actions. Whilst technically they should now be put up for review I'd prefer to restore the status quo ante and just leave them until this has been resolved. Invoking policy as an excuse for pre-empting an ongoing discussion isn't my idea of what policy is for. –RpehTCE 04:02, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Wonderful to see that nothing has changed. Yet again, 90% of what I said was ignored or dismissed. I don't know why I even bother trying to post comments any more. --NepheleTalk 11:27, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Nephele, you've always had a habit of posting somewhat lengthy comments but I'm afraid recently they've become almost impossible to follow. If there's a part of your comment that I haven't dealt with either here or in my reply on the main debate, then feel free to point it out. And remember that brevity is the soul of wit. –RpehTCE 11:33, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
