YO[edit]

hello everyone

Hi! --Nephele 01:23, 19 February 2007 (EST)

Dagon Shrine[edit]

Thanks for your help with the addition - I was disproportionately jazzed to be able to contribute. I think I'm developing a crush Nephele.

We all have crushes on Nephele...It's a natural part of the process here. Somercy 12:40, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Aww, now you all are making me blush ;) And it's not even Valentine's Day any more. But it is a relief to know who my Dagon Shrine secret admirer is - and to know that it's a cute harmless bunny rather some scary stalker :) Welcome to the site, Rabbit! And I'm glad you appreciate my tweaks to your contribution... just part of my obsessive checking of the site's recent changes. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! --Nephele 13:28, 20 February 2007 (EST)

Leveling above 'natural' maximum is a MYTH![edit]

For all the talk + theory, has anyone ever actually done this? I'm 0/1 on receiving bonuses that would push skills over 100 - I saved Jeelius (Dagon Shrine), and went to collect my skill bonuses (Restoration, Alchemy + Mysticism (-I think)), he said he was going to teach me what he knows, then nothing happened. 2/3 bonuses were at 100 (not Rest.), and I'm at my 'natural' maximum level (50). Alchemy is a major skill. I'd understand if it didn't up the maxed 2, but it should've at least given it up for Restoration. What gives? I hate that stupid mutt of a lizard, I should've let him die. Sinederion Jr. is going to fall from grace at some point and when he does, Jeelius will be the first to die.

Has anyone ever killed every NPC? I'm ready to drop bombs on kittens.

I'm going to go collect skill books (finally!) and see if having an illiterate character was worth it all this time. I'm playing the 360 version.

0/2 Mythic Dawn Commentaries I  : Minor Skill, Conjuration
0/3 Mythic Dawn Commentaries II  : Major skill, Destruction
0/4 Mythic Dawn Commentaries III  : Major skill, Illusion
0/5 Mythic dawn Commentaries IV  : Minor Skill, Mysticism
0/6 Sacred Witness  : Minor Skill, Sneak

Jeelius is specifically scripted not to improve your skills if they're above a certain point (I think 90), so that method won't work. Other scripted skill increases are known to work, however, such as the Oghma Infinium, not sure which others. --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:51, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Free Skill Boosts summarizes the skill boosts available in the game, and in the requirement column lets you know whether the boost does anything to highly skilled characters. There are several with "none" as the requirement: these will push your skills past 100. There are a couple more that you can trick into pushing your skills past 100 if you drain your skill first (the ones with getav<90 rather than getbaseav<90). The caveat is that most of this info is just derived from the construction set, and could do with some in-game testing to verify that I've read the scripts properly. I've only confirmed >100 skills using the Oghma Infinium.
I'm not sure why you didn't get Jeelius' restoration bonus. The script goes through and increments each skill separately, so unless your restoration was also 90+ it should be incremented no matter what the other two skills are.
I doubt that skill books will work to push you past 100, but it's worth checking just to be sure. And just to be sure, you're doing this just to boost your character's level, not in the hopes of improving your character's abilities, right? Because other than Acrobatics and Athletics 100+ values do nothing for you (see Skills). The one other way to cheat your maximum level is to spend alot of time in jail. --Nephele 16:54, 20 February 2007 (EST)

yay. So NONE of the book bonuses work if you're at 100? OOPS.
I guess the good news is that its not completely bugging out- my Restoration was at 94. I'd missed the 'free skill bonuses' page. I knew of the Oghma Infinium +10 bonus (worth 1 level no matter which), but I really wanted the book bonuses. I was after the level boost and decreased casting cost, but admittedly also some misplaced want for character bad-ass-ery. Does +100 even decrease casting cost, or am I wrong about that too? And how do you get your Acrobatics/Athletics up to 255? My Acrobatics (100) obviously hasn't continued to advance.
Going to jail A) would hurt Sinderion Jr.'s political future (no dubya here) and B) seems a huge waste of time. I'm not that psychotic. And 50 is a nice round number.
Nephele, when can we go out? --Rabbit
Well, you might want to check with my husband first ;) Although my Oblivion namesake is available: maybe Sinderion Jr should keep an eye open next time he's in Cheydinhal. She's got great personality but not much of anything else :) --Nephele 23:32, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Swingers, eh? Well alright then: 'Nephele's husband, can we go out?' --Rabbit

3D modeling software?[edit]

My Oblivion edition came with a DVD showing some of the programmers working. It looked like they were using 3D Studio Max, but I wasn't sure - does anybody know?

Yes, they were using 3D Max 5. (Not sure if they upgraded to later versions, but I remember hearing reports that they didn't want to because it messed them up upgrading twice during the production of Morrowind.) There are plug-ins available for exporting from Max, but many features, such as animation, are not available via these plug-ins, so Oblivion is much more difficult to mod items into - particularly creatures or clothing - than Morrowind was. --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:54, 20 February 2007 (EST)
