game freezes loading save

I am in Shivering Isles and ran into problems again after starting a new character. I am at about 300 hours with an L41 character on the GOTY 1.2.0416 (Win7: XP SP2 compatibility setting). I am am trying to work stats back up to 100% while suffering Ruinous Feldew but games started freezing during loading. I ran into a similar problem a few months ago and went back into earlier and earlier saved games but kept crashing at about the same amount of time while doing any of the open quests. I have used the console a fair amount, like when I get stuck in a snag and can not more while running over rocks/uneven terrain. GRPeng 01:00, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Spent a couple hours looking for reports and solutions for crashing, and found Wrye Bash http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:Wrye_Bash to repair Abomb. It seems to have worked, I can now enter the palace, harvest Flame Stalk, and leave without a freeze/crash. It took a while to find the latest .ZIP file to expand to (Win7 64bit) c:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Mopy, since the page the UESP points to has not been updated (wryemusings.com/Wrye%20Bash.html points to wrye.ufrealms.net/#WryeBash, which has expired).
