Oblivion:Gripes Solutions/Mod Links Proposal[edit]

Wrye's Alternative[edit]

I know I suggested a table, but looking at it, I think that it's going to use up too much space, and will be a pain to maintain as well. I like the icons though. So how about this...

[[Image:Gripe.gif]] This should have an "gripe" icon. Maybe a flame smilie or something like that? Anyway, gripe goes here.

[[Image:Yinyang22.gif]] Icon is wrong size. Should be 22 pixels. Anyways, here are any balancing statements are made.
[[Image:Compb22.gif]] Yadda, yadda pc stuff here.
[[Image:Xbox22.gif]] Yadda, yadda, xbox stuff here.
[[Image:PS22.gif]]Yadda, yadda PS2 stuff here.

Might be a good idea to replace images with templates to allow quickly changing them. Also you could probably get by without a "gripe" icon (the gripe is the only text that's not indented.) --Wrye 21:54, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Yeah, I like your solution better. Been busy modding, and still have to find gripe icon, but will get to this soon. -- Felic 01:15, 8 February 2007 (EST)
Cool. Here's a more expanded example (based on one of your sections above.) (Pretend yinyang icons are a different more "gripey" looking icon though. :) --Wrye 00:38, 16 February 2007 (EST)

You'll notice that I've modified the gripes page to use templates, and I've updated a chunk of it. And after a lot of beating on it, I haven't found any way to make the images aligh to the bottom. MediaWiki only recognizes left, right, and center, and refuses to allow you to specify the image with an html image inclusion. Sure "bottom" alignment has been available for images since the crack of dawn (internet time), but it seems to be impossible to use in MediaWiki. Grrr... --Wrye 21:05, 17 February 2007 (EST)

Proposal Notes[edit]

Some gripes might actually have a solution on the XBox or PS3 (no, not mods of course). Of course, each row would only exist if there was information belonging there, so there probably won't be many rows with XBox/PS3 information. I made the XBox/PS3 icons myself, so there's no licensing issues. The PC icon is PD.

Help Offer[edit]

Thanks for your offer to help with the site. Most of the stuff I do, however, requires root access and I'm a 'little' hesitant to give that out to anyone as you can imagine. A few suggestions to get you started:

  • Get yourself familiar with the site. Contribute content, edit, moderate, etc.... As you do this I, and the other admins, will get to know you more and let you do more.
  • You're welcome to work on some sort of file system that I've been thinking about doing but simply haven't the time for. I would recommend, however, that you update me frequently on the status as well as the implementation details. I don't want you to work on it for weeks and turn out I can't (or don't want to) use it. Make some articles about the design details and that will let me and the other admins discuss it as you go. I want any initial version of it just to be very simple and allow basic management of file uploads/downloads with the option to extend it further as we need to. This means a basic simple and well thought out base design that we can build off of. I do not want a huge complex file management system that does everything.

While I'm just about always busy feel free to ask questions, or anything else, to me or the other admins. I try to get on the IRC chat channel frequently as well. -- Daveh 13:24, 5 February 2007 (EST)

Of course, I understand and agree with everything you're saying, I wouldn't expect admin status much less root access. Which is why I want to setup a testing Wiki on a separate server. Once I have it up and running, and have started some basic stuff regarding the File Upload Utility, I will post a link to it here, and let people know. Do not feel under any pressure to approve/accept my work, worst case scenario for me is I learn how to implement MediaWiki, which is a plus.
