Lorsil, or "Doom-light", was a corrupted Daedric artifact, wielded in the form of a blade by Velryn the Heretic.

History[edit]

The artifact was first recorded as taking the form of a spear. It was called Silvarsil, or "Star-light", and was gifted to a Chimer Ashkhan by Azura during the First Era. The spear was passed down to a Chimer named Aranak, who became imprisoned by Molag Bal until the Second Era. During his imprisonment, Aranak lost the spear to the Daedric Prince, who corrupted it into its cursed form, Lorsil. At that time, it appeared as a flail with many tails, which could apparently wrap and scorch its victims. When Aranak escaped Coldharbour, he took Lorsil back to Mundus and purified it within the Temple of the Incarnate on Vvardenfell. The spear remained in Aranak's possession until his death in the Third Era. For a short time it was carried by a Dunmer historian named Eldus Seranus, before it was buried with Aranak's remains inside the Ahemmusa Burial Caverns. In the Fourth Era, a weapon with the same name was reportedly seen in Skyrim, in the possession of a Dunmer named Velryn the Heretic. Velryn claimed to have stolen Silvarsil from the Burial Caverns, and through unknown means, corrupted the spear into its cursed form once again, this time taking the shape of a sword. The weapon reportedly possessed a terrible power, instilling fear into anyone who looked upon it.
