note confirmed[edit]

Salas Valor is already dead? The pain is almost more than I can bear... but somehow, you have anticipated my need and served me faithfully! It is a sign! This miracle compels me to grant you a divine blessing. Would you like skin as tough as iron? Would you like the terrible force of lightning tamed as your protector? Or would you wish to always bask in warm comfort of my reflected glory? Quick, now! Choose! You must not keep your Deity waiting!

The new note is confirmed. (see above dialogue)

The normal dialogue is as follows: Salas Valor is dead? The pain is almost more than I can bear... but you have served me faithfully, and it is in my mind to grant you a divine blessing. Would you like skin as tough as iron? Would you like my protection against paralyzing terror? Or would you wish to always bask in warm comfort of my reflected glory? Quick, now! Choose! You must not keep your Deity waiting!

If you choose "Tamed Lightning" you indeed end up with the paralysis ability. This is so because for both the "paralysis" and the "Tamed Lightning" the "choice variable"is 3. This automatically leads you to recieve the paralysis ability. There is also no other dialogue option (normal, disabled, non-used or otherwise) that gives you the "Tamed Lightning". I also checked and there is indeed an ability called "Her tamed lightning" that does 10pts Shock Shield.

Fair enough. I'll take out the VN. --Gaebrial 11:41, 6 August 2008 (EDT)

It seems there were originally plans to include the Tamed Lightning power, yet were probably cut by Bethesda. The dialog options are still available in the toolset (check out Almalexia's dialog options for the Missing Hand topic), so you can restore this. Extend Almalexia's conversation so that she offers this cut ability among others. Create a new answer for the player to choose in the result window, assign Choice 1 to it. Create a new Almalexia dialog (or simply copy one of the other 3 and adjust it) that has Choice==1 as its condition and gives you the lightning power:

Demoralize Humanoid on Salas[edit]

Salas can be demoralized, however it requires an extremely powerful Demoralize Humanoid spell - magnitude of exactly 330 points. Such magnitudes are obviously only possible with the Morrowind Code Patch. Why 330? I have no idea. I tested Demoralize Humanoid 320 points for 30 sec. on Touch and it didn't work. Then I created another spell, increasing the magnitude by another 10 points to 330 and this time he ran away. I tested it several times and it always worked. Any magnitude below 330 won't suffice.

I'd really like to know how the engine calculates the required magnitude. Salas's AI has a standard Flee rating of 30 points (see character sheet in TES), which means 60-70 points should suffice to increase his Flee rating to 100, thus demoralizing him. However, since nothing works below 330 points, the game obviously expects a Flee Rating of 330+30=360 points, for whatever reason. WRFan 18:25, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

The game probably calculates your magnitude as level. But that damn high?? I can only guess that 330 is a lvl 33 (for Salas)? Giving it this way means 330 is level 33, which is not enough for him to flee, because he's 40. But with his flee rating 30 pts, it sums 33+3 = 36, which is above the 35. Probably it works this way. Additionally, have you tried others with 40 lvl and 30 flee? However 330 is a damn high.Janmojzis 16:05, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Disposition?[edit]

If you refuse to take a gift from Almalexia, not only do you miss out on a useful spell, but her disposition drops 30 points. How is this possible since creatures don't have disposition?--Aleksa 23:22, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Hmm, good point. To be fair, the script in the editor DOES have a line that decreases disposition by 30 points, but I'd imagine that this actually does not do anything at all since she is, after all, a creature according to the game. Guess even the developers forgot you can't actually do that... --TheRealLurlock Talk 06:00, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Assault[edit]

For some reason, I found that if I hit him with a sneak attack critical before speaking to him, he begins fleeing instead of fighting back. I don't know if this is something that always happens, but if it is, it could be helpful for people like me who aren't good enough to take him in a straight fight. 71.205.142.127 01:10, 26 November 2014 (GMT)

Is it possible to advance the main quest without killing Salas?[edit]

In many other instances the player has the option not to kill NPC:s. This is not one of them then?

Attacking Salas first might not result in a bounty[edit]

The article currently has a Note that reads: Be warned that even though Almalexia gave you this quest, if you attack Salas yourself, rather than triggering him to attack you through dialogue, the High Ordinators will come to his aid and you will have a Bounty. I'm not sure if this is correct, though.

I got the quest from Almalexia, went to Godsreach, and saved. First, I walked up to Salas, talked to him, he force-ended the conversation, he attacked me, and I got wrecked. At one point during that fight, I did get a bounty, but I'm pretty sure that's because I used an area-effect arrow too close to one of the other NPCs.

I reloaded my save and didn't bother talking to him this time; I sneaked near him and hit him with an area-effect arrow while the "sneak" icon was still active. I don't think I got any "bounty" notification at that time. I ran around Godsreach fighting him, being careful not to do anything that could affect another NPC. When I finally killed him, I got the stage 90 update ("Salas Valor is dead..."), and I checked my bounty and I didn't have one. I went back to the Temple and made it a point to talk to a few of the High Ordinators on the way, and none of them did anything to me. I got the reward from Almalexia and the quest completed normally, as far as I can tell.

I am on PC, 1.6.1820 (Morrowind + Tribunal + Bloodmoon, bought from GOG in spring 2022). I am also playing under OpenMW 0.46 on Linux, rather than morrowind.exe on Windows. 73.185.239.90 05:33, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
