Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Speaking to Maurrisha about new orders, and she tells you that a guard who had guard duty for the Old Ebonheart treasury is out today, and you're the replacement. She gives you a key to some of the upper level sewer doors and tells you to head to Arkay's Tower on the west wall to get down into the sewers to get to the treasury.
However the Arkay's Tower is not on the west wall of the city proper, it's in the Ebon Tower section of the city with the Legion HQ, etc. It's just north of the Valenwood Mission door indicator on the map, on the west wall. You'll have to walk along the back wall and up a staircase to get to Arkay's Tower, or just levitate over everything.
Walking in, you'll be met with Helice Rastin, a priestess. You can ask her about gate in the sewers and she will give you a key, the Arkay's Tower Undercroft Key. Head into the Ebon Tower, Arkay's Tower: Undercroft Mortuary door, and walk down into the undercroft. To the south you'll come across a Wooden Door, you do not need to pick this, just open it with the keys you have and head into the sewers.
From here, head straight into a central chamber, and go south (right). Follow the tunnel to a flooded room. When you exit the tunnel, you'll be facing east. Turn left (so you're facing north), follow the wall around. Skip that tunnel you see when you face north and keep following the wall. You'll run into a wooden Gate. Open it with your keys and move through it, you'll meet your fellow "Treasury Guard".
The guy doesn't have a name, just "Guard". He says: Welcome to our post, <Imperial Legion Rank>. Now that you're here -- I can't stand the squeaks of these damn rats. I believe we have an infestation somewhere on the northwestern corridor, can you take care of it? Go backwards the way you came to that central spot just outside of the Evon Tower, Arkay's Tower: Undercroft Mortuary door to the sewers. There are 2 rats in the northwest tunnel. Kill them and go back to the guard.
On reporting back to him, he states that he wants you to check on a recently damaged area near your post at the treasury. It's west of your posting, the tunnel you ignored earlier on the wall on your way to the guard. Go back to that tunnel and you'll meet with an obvious thief standing at the ladder named Miriel. You have 2 options here:
- Ask "Who goes there?"
- On asking "Who goes there?" the obvious thief will tell you: You don't know me? I'm Miriel, fellow Footpad of the Thieves Guild. Here to make room in some noble's cellar." There are 3 options here:
- You should go home. Nothing good awaits you here.
- Selecting this option if you have 50+ Speechcraft, Miriel will state: I guess you're right, this heist is already too dangerous. Thank you for not taking me away in chains. I don't often see guards that care about people like me. Your journal will be updated. Report back to the Guard at your post, telling him you encountered a thief, and he'll say that you managed to get rid of the scoundrel, and to report back to Captain Maurrisha for next steps. When you get back to Maurrisha, she'll say: Good job, <Imperial Legion rank>. Here's your pay for the day. You don't need to go back to the post, as I've got some more pressing orders for you. You get 200 gold as a reward.
- If you have below 50 Speechcraft, she will state: I see we're not on the same page. It's a pity that only one of us can leave this scene. and she will attack you. You can attack her and bring her to 50% HP, and either jail her or kill her, with the stated rewards/repercussions:
- If you jail her, go back to the Guard who will tell you to go back to Captain Maurrisha, who will give you 200 gold and the quest will finish. If you kill her, go back to the guard who will tell you to go back to Captain Maurrisha, who will give you 100 gold for killing her, since she doesn't want you to kill anyone, and the quest will finish.
- I'll let you go for a few coins.
- If you have 50+ Mercantile, she will state, 50 coins is all I have. What do you say? And you can choose from:
- Give it to me.
- On selecting this option, Miriel will state: Here's your coin, you greedy bastard. Now let me leave. and she will leave. On reporting back to the Guard with you at your post, he will tell you to report back to Captain Maurrisha, who will pay you 200 gold for not killing the thief and protecting the vault, ending the quest.
- I'm afraid that's not enough.
- If you select the "that's not enough" option, she'll fight you, and you can either fight and kill her or jail her at 50% HP.
- If you select this option, Miriel states: Are you trying to get a bribe from me? This is going to make for a hilarious story to tell! It's a pity that only one of us can leave this scene. On making her reach about 50% HP, she will tell you she surrenders. You can either:
- Take her to jail
- If you select this option, Miriel will say: One day I'll get out, you can be sure of that. And upon returning to the guard at your post, you'll be told to report to Captain Maurrisha, and get 200 gold as a reward.
- Kill her
- If you decide to kill Miriel, she says: You cruel monster! Somebody help me!. She has no notable loot. When you return to the Guard at your post, he says to report to Captain Maurrisha for next steps. When you return to Maurrisha, she says: You've killed the intruder? We try to avoid bloodshed as long as it's possible, <Imperial Legion rank>. Nevertheless, you've protected the vault, so here's your pay for the day. You don't need to go back to the post, as I've got some more pressing orders for you. You get 100 gold as a reward.
- Can I join you?
- When asking her if you can join her, she says: Are you sure? I thought your officers would expel anyone for this. And you have 2 options:
- Yes, I am. Let's rob this place.
- On selecting the Yes option, Miriel will say: Great! One thing: there's a lightning trap that I need to deactivate, before we go in. Follow me after a few seconds. We're getting rich! And she disappears up the ladder.
Waiting approximately 5 seconds, you'll get a notice at the bottom of your screen, stating: You hear muffled sounds coming from the breach starting to call your name, then a flash.
When you go up, you'll be apprehended by a Guard who states: Do I see you participating in a robbery of the Palace Treasure Chamber? The one that you were supposed to guard? Your accomplice was lucky enough to teleport away, but you... You're expelled from the Imperial Legion for this. You will be expelled from the Imperial Legion faction. On returning to Captain Maurrisha, she states: You've been expelled. I have no orders for you.
- No, I've changed my mind.
- Selecting the No option will have her suspect you're waiting for your partner to show up, and she attacks you. Then you can kill her, or take her to jail, with the previously stated repercussions/rewards happening, ending the quest at Captain Maurrisha.
- [Look the other way]
- If you look the other way, you'll have the woman kick sewage into your eyes and she will run away. Then if you report back to "Guard" at your post, he will say: A thief has breached into the vault? How could you let this happen? Report immediately to Captain Maurrisha!
- Make your way back to Captain Maurrisha. Captain Maurrisha is disappointed in you, stating: You were supposed to protect the vault, yet did nothing to stop a common thief! It's clear that you can't be trusted with anything more complicated than handling a brawl. And the quest ends there.
