Starting quest

I've been talking to the Solitude guards for about 10 minutes and they haven't said anything about Volskygge. Are there any prereqs to start the quest? I could just go there myself but I want the quest to count towards the complete quests stat. Dbbolton (talk) 21:57, 13 June 2013 (GMT)

It's one of the "non-existent" quests, meaning that it is described as a quest in the game stats, but not in the game itself. It will never show up in your journal, regardless if you get the map marker from the guards or not - and I'm pretty sure that it won't count in your stats. --Krusty (talk) 22:01, 13 June 2013 (GMT)

Volsung, Barbas, and Farkas Clavicus Vile Quest

While in the second half of the Clavicus Vile quest, with Barbas in tow (or rather myself in tow) along with follower Farkas (Level 12), I followed the pointers for Rimerock Burrow to claim the Rueful Axe and meet the inimitable Mr. Lod. The pointers clearly showed entering Volskygge Passages, which I though rather strange, though it may be a physical shortcut, it is hardly advisable considering the caliber of enemies inside. Two points on this, lest I get long-winded. We battled Volsung after I approached the word wall, and he floated a bit down the mountainside to the left facing the word wall....I jumped to position, not too close, and he seemed to just float there without moving, so I was able to annihilate him fairly quickly with augmented flames, while taking no frost damage (I do have magic resistance on the order of approx. 50%). What gives here...is this a known bug, a one-off, or characteristic behavior of Volsung? Upon his defeat I followed the pointer into the Volskygge Passages (in reverse), and suddenly was confronted with a Lord Draugr, so I just ran ahead and it was one enemy after another, and checked my active effects and saw sanguinaris vampirism....This can't be the way developers intended the Clavicus Vile quest to play out...it became epic. So instead, reloaded, and went around the mountainside and approached Rimerock from the exterior without setting foot in the passages.
