Hired Thugs[edit]

I found an interesting bug which occurs after you steal something in the Riften Jails. I had hired thugs sent after me, from Threki the Innocent, while having never touched her pockets or the meager things she has in her jail cell. What's even curiouser is how she managed to hire someone while in jail.... 71.178.171.182 04:56, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

This isn't a bug, it's a random encounter which can happen with almost any NPC in the game (even dead ones). See the Hired Thugs page, including the related quests, for more info. ABCface 06:38, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Releasing her?[edit]

Strange that she is not released when Imperials take Riften. — Unsigned comment by 217.140.228.243 (talk) at 17:53 on 11 November 2012

That might be because she only claims to be a political prisoner, she may have done something else. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:56, 11 November 2012 (GMT)
This issue is fixed with USKP v. 2.0, so that she will be disabled when (or if) Riften is under Imperial control. --Blackpete (talk) 02:33, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
I'm fine with it being noted on the page, but unless there's clear evidence that she should have been released or removed then its not a bug (see my comment above for details). As I've said before, just because the Unofficial Patches people fix it doesn't mean it's a bug. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 03:17, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
Excellent point, I didn't take that into consideration. You're correct that it belongs in the notes section and not the bugs section. --Blackpete (talk) 03:34, 17 October 2013 (GMT)

Confirmation of "bug"[edit]

I had the same situation.

It should be a bug because a prisoner shouldn't be able to hire thugs because you stole something from the prison. — Unsigned comment by 87.157.62.148 (talk) at 19:00 on 10 May 2013‎

Its a technical thing that would require far more coding than the minuscule amount of times this may happen is worth. It isn't even a bug, its how the game is designed to work. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 20:01, 10 May 2013 (GMT)
It's certainly a bug. No use denying it. — Unsigned comment by 70.199.244.31 (talk) at 00:28 on 20 May 2013
It isn't a bug, anyone in the game can send thugs after you. They do not have to see you take it, be in the building at the time, or even be able to afford it (beggars can send thugs too), that is the way the encounter is scripted. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:46, 20 May 2013 (GMT)
I don't see an issue with considering it a bug, but regardless, it definitely doesn't belong on this NPC page. The quest page, Steal, Thugs hunt player already has it noted (as a bug, for what that's worth). Since it's not specific to this NPC, it belongs only on the quest page, not on this page. — ABCface 00:54, 20 May 2013 (GMT)
Of course it is a bug since the player doesn't steal anything from this character. Something scripted incorrectly is a bug. It isn't a very complicated problem to solve either, and would require any "coding," although minor scripting would be involved. The bug pertains to this character in specific, so it wouldn't hurt to be on this character's page--but it is almost a non issue and mentioning it on this page is little more than a waste of space. — Unsigned comment by 66.91.108.212 (talk) at 06:35 on 20 May 2013
What you've stolen is likely marked in game data as belonging to one of the factions which Threki belongs to, and thus it is playing out as that quest is intended. Your specific situation is specific to this NPC, but it's a general issue of the quest, not specific to her and no other NPC. — ABCface 06:39, 20 May 2013 (GMT)
It's possible to have thugs go after someone outside the jail while you are serving time, it happens often in real prisons. Besides this is Riften where corruption runs high. All it would take is a few coins to get a message out and a few more to get a person back in (You can bribe your way past the guards yourself, why can't Others?) As for paying she could have a stash hidden out in the world that the contracted thug can take before going after a person.
