Leveled undead bug?[edit]

I just got finished playing this on my level 15 Khajiit. In the room with the word wall, the two draugr on top of the platform were a Draugr Scourge and a Draugr Death Overlord! The overlord had an ebony war axe. My level 45 orc has only seen one of those things. Is that scripted, or did this just bug way the hell out? I wound up sneaking by them and missing the treasure in the chest on the platform, then went back in afterwards and toggled god mode on; it was the only way to beat them. --QuillanTalk 06:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Keep in mind that Draugr, even the highest level ones, burn like matchwood. If you can light them up, there's usually much less of a problem. Set them on fire, wait till they totter up to you, and then blow them back with Unrelenting Force, rinse and repeat. --174.6.51.17 12:56, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm guessing this mission bugs out a lot. I was playing earlier and I had to fight four draugr deathlords. It was a pain. Jfigz 08:02, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Mercer Glitch[edit]

Now this is odd. At the start of the dungeon, I did a bit of Archery training using Mercer as a practice dummy... didn't seem to affect anything for a while, got to the Word Wall room without any problems. Then when I approached the puzzle-ring door... bam, invincible Mercer attacking me for no reason. I had to use "stopcombat" to get him to unlock the door. 112.201.196.17 19:54, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Watch that trap, Mercer[edit]

After he alerts you to the presence of traps, he'll stand right in the pathway of a swing-gate waiting for you to pull a gate chain. For a cheap laugh, feel free to stand on the trap. Repeatedly. Bootstomp 02:16, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Word Wall?[edit]

Where is the word wall? I must have missed it. There's a large room behind a wooden door where Mercer said be careful, an ambush is behind, and lo and behold, I had Dragon Priest and 3 Draugrs. I killed them, went up for the Master chest loot, but didn't see any word wall in that room! 71.132.201.220 10:50, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Nevermind, I went back there and found it in that room. 71.132.201.220 11:01, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Follower[edit]

Mercer replaced Uthgerd (my follower) inside the sanctum, and once I was out I lost her. player.moveto 91918 takes me to an empty place with nothing and no one. 71.132.201.220 11:06, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

I fast traveled back to a city and Uthgerd reappeared but lost everything I gave her... What a bug. BE WARNED! 71.132.201.220 20:09, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Missing Mercer[edit]

Okay, so I cleared level 1 of the sanctum just fine. But when I moved into the level 2 area, mercer was missing, cleared all the way to the puzzle lock and now I'm stuck, coz there is no mercer to open the door.( Actually I noted him missing only when I reached the door , :P) What should I do ?

Try waiting for an hour. He should appear next to you.75.54.82.110 17:17, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Mercer won't open puzzle door[edit]

So I'm at the Puzzle door for like an hour and Mercer won't open the door.. Been pushing him and everything I can.. he walks right up to it and the guy won't open it! :( what to do?? — Unsigned comment by 114.76.174.86 (talk) at 09:28 on January 4, 2012

Load a save. I just played through this part; little time should have passed since your last auto-save. Save again before walking up to the door. If you stand by the door, out of Mercer's way, you should become frozen in place and Mercer will start talking about the puzzle door. Minor Edits 09:35, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

No "cleared" dungeon status?[edit]

Not for me, anyway. I went back one more time and ran through the whole dungeon, including the final room, just to get the "cleared" tag to show up on the world map icon. No enemies living and the entire interior map is well-defined, but still no update. Anyone else have this problem?71.224.13.163 05:54, 18 January 2012 (UTC)Marcus

Yup, I am. I can't even find the location code to clear it on the console. --Nick — Unsigned comment by 165.123.208.133 (talk) at 05:18 on 20 January 2012 (GMT)

A few minor inconveniences[edit]

For starters, being above level 50 and doing this quest. I strongly advise against it. Mercer is a very capable fighter, but at one point in the dungeon we had to fight 8 Draugr Deathlords, and 2 Lower level draugr at the same time. Also, make certain that the trap where the model ship is, DOES NOT GO OFF before you get the ship. I spent a good 30 minutes before quitting looking for that thing. Another smaller quip, is I lost one of my favorite thralls. The first thrall you get will stay after the quest, but the second will disappear. Somewhat unfortunate, but that is my opinions on the matter. -Craig — Unsigned comment by 173.69.20.158 (talk) at 15:19 on 24 February 2012 (GMT)

Bug - No cutscene[edit]

I've completed this quest on my Breton with no problem. Second play through with my Dunmer everything goes fine until I reach the end of the quest. Mercer opens the door, I waltz through, and nothing happens. I wander around the room, Mercer walks into the room and up a few steps, then stops there. I'm told that the quest objective to "Find Karliah" is completed. No new objective, no cutscene. I can even walk up to the top of the stairs and open the door back out to Skyrim. I've gone back loads and nothing changes. I've even gone back to a load before I started this quest. Same thing. Now, I've found a lot of information on Mercer not opening the door, but nothing on this. Anyone else have this problem? 72.226.47.155 03:51, 16 June 2012 (UTC) Malek

This can be fixed by entering into the hall in first person after reloading a previous save — Unsigned comment by 59.88.247.67 (talk) at 11:31 on 2 April 2015 (GMT)

NOTE: entering in first person doesn't work for me

Model ship[edit]

It should be noted that the traps, and the out of the way trip, to obtain this item can be avoided easily if you have telekinesis. In the room after the bone chime room, the ship will be to your left as you enter. You'll have to go up the stairs to your right as you enter the room to get a clear shot at it. Not such a worthless spell now, is it? Artemis Entreri 22:02, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Aela Missing afterwards[edit]

Before this quest began, I had Aela as a follower and it was fine until I got here. Once we entered Snow Veil Sanctum, Aela did not follow - it was just me and Mercer. I figured I would either find her waiting outside or back in Whiterun. When I was back outside talking to Karliah, Aela was no where to be found so I went to be Whiterun and looked for her there. When I did not find her there, I figured she was still walking back or something. But now I have finished the Thieve's Guild questline and done some more quests/exploring. I have gone back to Whiterun and Snow Veil Sanctum a few times with no luck. Any suggestions? — Unsigned comment by 132.177.236.101 (talk) at 04:15 on 16 February 2013

Missing Familiars + Mercer Follows me[edit]

so upon entering the dungeon i realized instantly all my followers and summons were gone i did nothing and continued on. midway through the dungeon i get ganged by 6+ overpowered draugers (im level 40) decide to bail on the quest for now. upon exiting my housecarl has reappeared but my dead thrall and flame thrall have not respawned and i dont want to summon another dead thrall because i grabbed a strong vampire. but bonus is i got an immortal mercer frey following me as a familiar. Re, the warning note I added that was removed.[edit]

Re: ==Notes== -

  • It is highly recommended that you make a save game before entering Snow Veil Sanctum and before each of the subsequent quests Hard Answers, The Pursuit and Trinity Restored due to a large number of bugs that can pop up.

The Silencer (Talk | contribs)‎ . . (-272)‎ . . (Undo revision 1240751 by Sniffles (talk) you can go through all of this without bugs, lets have less of this negativity) (undo)

The Silencer, while your opinion is valued, the number of bugs and their severity during the subsequent quests merits some degree of strong warning. It isn't just the quantity of the bugs. *Followers can be completely removed from the game. Both Aela and Frea vanished and all their quests with them. There are around 20 quest breaking bugs and glitches that can occur and leave the entire Thieves Guild quest line incomplete. I added that note mostly for the benefit of those who do not have access to the console. Now if you feel my wording was inappropriate, rather than simply leaving players (and users of this Wiki) in the lurch, don't you think you could assist by correcting the wording? Sniffles (talk) 22:29, 18 September 2013 (GMT)

Just look through all the pages with bugs on them, a lot of them are much more serious and potential game breakers. There is no need for this page to be singled out and have a warning on it to the exclusion of other pages. The most bugged quest probably in the history of the Elder Scrolls (Blood on the Ice) doesn't even have this note. It can be assumed that either you look at the wiki first and take note of the bugs listed, or you come to the wiki after its happened and (hopefully) see it listed. This kind of note is irrelevant when you see bugs listed. There is simply no need for this kind of pov negativity. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:38, 18 September 2013 (GMT)
The only time we mark a bug as a significant note or somewhere other than the appropriate section (such as putting it in a quest header or intro) is when it is nearly unavoidable and causes significant game issues. Vely►t►e 22:43, 18 September 2013 (GMT)

Pickpocketing Mercer's weapons[edit]

If you have the misdirection perk and steal Mercer's weapons, he "stabs" you with his empty hand at the cutscene. Also, Karliah still talks about how she doesn't want to "cross blades" with him even though he just has his fists.

Should this be added to bugs or notes on the page?— Unsigned comment by 71.60.254.154 (talk) at 23:07 on 26 August 2014

The first half may belong under the bugs section. The second half of that bit doesn't really belong anywhere since it's not really noteworthy. •WoahBro►talk 23:37, 26 August 2014 (GMT)

Mercer completely gone?[edit]

I tried doing this quest awhile back but found it was too hard so I quick travelled away and had mercer following me for a while but as soon as I went to the sanctum he just vanished? I've tried loading a save, waiting, travelling back to the guild to see if he's there or if he's in riften at all but he's just gone, and I can't complete the quest without him? — Unsigned comment by 124.168.231.170 (talk) at 04:26 on 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Reward[edit]

At the end of the quest Karliah gives you several poisons in addition to Gallus's journal. I reloaded and tried several times, and got 2-4 poisons that were different each time, despite my character being the same level. In the quest script here and here, there are the following lines:

 Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(kmyQuest.pTG05GallusJournal,1)
 Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(pTG05Reward,1)
 Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(pTG05Reward,1)
 Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(pTG05Reward,1)
 Game.GetPlayer().AddItem(pTG05Reward,1)

It looks like you can get no more than four poisons, but I wasn't able to find out how the game determines which ones you get and how many. Towards the bottom of the first script I linked is this line:

 LeveledItem Property pTG05Reward  Auto

Which suggests it's a leveled reward, but I couldn't find anything about the contents of pTG05Reward. The poisons aren't currently mentioned on this page, but it's described on Karliah's page as "four doses of a leveled poison". I'm hoping someone can figure out how the poisons are leveled. --Oriwa Talk 00:45, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
