I found a bug related to the crimson nirnroots. If you have the quest open to collect 30 roots, and you accidentally eat one, when you put the roots in and out of containers you will slowly accumulate a negative inventory number of roots. Sadly I now have -12 roots.

[response] If you put multiple crimson nirnroots in a container at that same, it will only remove 1 from your total (x/30) gathered so far for the quest. Similarly, if you take multiple crimson nirnroots out of a container at the same time, it will only add 1 to your total for the quest. By manipulating how many times you remove and replace the crimson nirnroots from your inventory, it is possible to trick the game in to thinking you have collected 30 samples even though you really have not - or to have the game show a negative total for the number of samples collected so far. 69.244.131.207 01:21, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Are there a finite number of crimson nirnroots in the game?[edit]

The nature of the quest seems to imply this, but it's never made totally clear.

[response] The crimson nirnroots do regenerate however it takes a long time. 69.244.131.207 01:21, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

crimson nirnroot sound persisting forever? (ps3)[edit]

After doing this quest (i don't know exactly when since I had it muted at the time), the higher pitched crimson nirnroot chime never stopped looping. It's subtle, but when I'm indoors or sneaking I hear it, just going forever. It's pretty annoying. Anyone had this happen or have any idea how to stop it? I tried storing my leftover crimson nirnroots, dropping them, eating them... Nothing so far. — Unsigned comment by 98.232.136.81 (talk) at 04:49 on 23 January 2012‎

As far as I know this is the in game music for Blackreach, and though similar it is not the same as the Ninrroot chime. --Negativeiamacapsicle (talk) 03:33, 25 November 2012 (GMT)

Harvested Crimson Nirnroot[edit]

There is no already harvested Crimson Nirnroot. The one in the laboratory is still growing (still producing that sound). There is soil on that plate (?) where it grows and it is a plant in the game data (0x000eec59). --Alfwyn 20:43, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I just checked in-game. There are no already harvested crimson nirnroots. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 21:39, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Duplicate location?[edit]

I think that the following are the same location - can anyone check? I'd already harvested a heap before I came to this page so can't be 100% sure.

  • West of Derelict Pumphouse at water level and against the edge of the cavern is a small shrine. In a pot.
  • From the Falmer Camp at the bottom of the Tower of Mzark, get into the water and travel in the direction of the main waterfall (To the right of the waterfalls coming from the building). There will be two plants. The first is on the right, in a pot at a little mini shrine-like alcove (watch out for the guardian).

More than 44 samples?[edit]

I'm currently in Blackreach hunting around for Crimson Nirnroot, and out of curiosity I thought I'd see how many samples there were to find. The article says 44, but I already have 45 in my inventory, and I can still 'hear' at least one more in the cavern. I play on the Xbox so I can't provide a screenshot, but I promise I'm not misreading my inventory. Has anyone else ever managed to get more than 44 samples? --Negativeiamacapsicle (talk) 20:22, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

There are only 44, but I believe it's possible that they respawn. Vely►t►e 20:54, 3 September 2012
The respawn hypothesis seems valid until you realize that I've never been to Blackreach before (with this character), and I have not yet left. I certainly have not been in the ruin long enough for the nirnroot to have respawned, unless there is some sort of hyper-respawn glitch with the crimson nirnroot. I found a total of 52 samples (with one more that I could see but could not reach, on top of a rock in between a waterfall) before I gave up and went on with the main quest. --Negativeiamacapsicle (talk) 21:08, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
That's odd, then; there's only 44 in the game data. However, since it's managed by an activator (unlike other ants in the game), it could work something like this. If a trigger fails to despawn or if you activate it more than once, you could get those extras. Vely►t►e 21:33, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
Just for the record, there was another report of more than 44 plants here. I have no real explanation for this, I can only see 44 plants in the data and no other sources of Crimson Nirnroot. --Alfwyn (talk) 11:20, 28 September 2012 (GMT)
As far as I know, there are 44 growing around Blackreach + the ones found indoors (if I remember correctly). The book states approx. 50 ( maybe a few more or less).
Also, they do respawn when Blackreach does. - Kellynne — Unsigned comment by Kellynne (talkcontribs) at 17:00 on 11 December 2013

incorrect location "In a tunnel in the stream near the Hall of Rumination"[edit]

There's no stream near the Hall of Rumination. But to the East side of the complex, East of the Debate Hall, there's a short tunnel off a stream that leads to an entrance to the Silent City Catacombs that does have a Crimson Nirnroot. If someone agrees, please replace that description.
