Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Read Heretic Dossier: Blacksmith's Confessional at the Temple in Raven Rock.
- Travel to Fahlbtharz Forge.
- Kill Hand Kenro.
- Travel to Ashfall's Tear.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
To begin this quest, read the Heretic Dossier: Blacksmith's Confessional at the Temple in Raven Rock. It can be found on a table in the first room on the right on the lower floors of the temple.
You will then have to travel to Fahlbtharz and enter the Forge. Inside you will find Hand Kenro Hlan, he will be hostile and you will have to kill him. Once he is dealt with, search his body to find a note, Unenchanted Weapon, Kenro's Helmet and Kenro's Robes. Picking up these items will also start Trueflame (quest).
You will then need to head to Ashfall's Tear, once inside you will find a ALMSIVI puzzle. The correct order for the stone pillars is ASV.
If you decide to wear Kenro's helmet and robes and infiltrate the temple ranks, the ordinators at the door will not be hostile, however, if you are not wearing these, they will attack on sight.
Joining the Heretics[edit]
If you disguise yourself, you can peacefully talk to Matriarch Drevlan and either persuade or prove yourself by fighting Almalexia's Hands:
- I'm actually not one of your followers. But I'd still like to join your ranks.
- "You expect me to believe that?"
- I could prove my loyalty by praying to the Goddess. (Persuade).
- "Okay, okay, you've talked me into it."
- If I bested your warriors in combat, it would show the Goddess favors me.
- "How can I argue with that?"
If you manage to persuade her you will have to pray at the nearby Shrine of Almalexia next to the large statue at the temple entrance. Doing so acts as praying at any other shrine, curing diseases and replacing any active blessing with Almalexia's Blessing. This blessing grants +10 to the Heavy Armor skill and +10% damage with One-Handed weapons for 8 hours. Once you've prayed at the shrine, you've joined the heretics and can continue on to the next stage of the quest.
If you want to prove yourself through combat, you will have to fight Hand Kydren Indobar until he submits, then Hand Ethra Mavandas, Watchman Sindras and finally Vesparth the Toe. After this you will need to speak to Drevlan again:
- I've won the combat trial. I trust this means I have her favor?
- "The deed is done. We need speak of it no longer."
After this point, you are now accepted. You are free to switch back to your other apparel if you want. Speak to Drevlan again to continue.
- I await the Goddess' command. Her word is our law.
- "You speak the truth."
- Does the Goddess have a task for me?
- "Of course. It's all in this note."
She will then hand you a note detailing your task and the location of the other masks. Reading the note will begin three quests:
- Her Word Against TheirsCC: Spread the word of the Goddess Almalexia.
- Buyer BewareCC: Ambush a meeting to retrieve the Mask of Vivec.
- Careless CurationCC: Find the missing Curate to retrieve the Mask of Sotha Sil.
Once you return to the temple you will have to clear out the ash zombies that are attacking the temple, once they are dealt with you will need to speak to the Matriarch: (?)
She will reward you with the Tribunal Armory Key.
Destroying the Heretics[edit]
If you decide to destroy the heretics, you can disguise yourself still in order to speak to Matriarch Drevlan, or you can just deal with them the traditional way.
If you choose the traditional way, you will have to first fight the two ordinators that guard the first door into the temple.
You will then have to fight everyone gathered in the ritual room past the statue. There is a narrow straight tunnel before the room. It is possible to fight everyone in the room one on one at this choke point.
You will still be able to complete the other Ghost of the Tribunal Quests by looting the bodies for notes. There is no key to the armory however and this prevents you from obtaining Skullcrusher. The other cases are unlocked however.
You will still have to fight the Ash Zombies and if you return to Ashfall Tear after that, you will find the Reclamation Priest with three Redoran Guards investigating the scene while sadly saying "Almsivi" to themselves. They will ask what you want but no dialogue will be available.
You will have all four masks, not replicas, but they have no associated magical qualities.
Notes[edit]
- All four of the Heretics can become followers immediately after winning the combat trial. Persuade Matriarch Drevlan via receiving the Almalexia shrine blessing and she'll hand over the note but the Heretics won't be available as followers until completion of the Ashen Heart.

- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
