You have to get a patch before it works, if you have got it look on your own again, if that does not work, you are not going to SI. Sorry.110.32.227.14 07:41, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

NPCs[edit]

Ok, this is A Odd Problem, i've seen no mention of it anywhere; when i go to the island on which the door is situatted, there are 3 Golden Saint Gaurds, 1 Golden Saint Aurgezel, Big Head, Victim, Anglor's Ghost and Arctus. All of them are just gathered around the strange door. All the named NPC's are not dulpliecates or anything. All i am Playing on a PS3 with Game Of The Year edition.

Thanks. Chase 17:31, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I think it's due to the Vampire Cure quest - if you used the solution provided on the page (IE switched language to German), then it can result in some of the NPCs "dripping" out to the Strange Door. It actually made the expansion unwinnable for me. --Revanchist (talk) 19:21, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Really? I've heard of the bug before but I don't think we ever pinned down a cause. —Legoless (talk) 19:25, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
I've had this crowd of people outside of the Door happen after I did that AND I also had a bunch of Dark Seducers and an Order Priest in Tiber Septim hotel. It's just speculation on my part, but I really think the language swap is to blame here. --Revanchist (talk) 19:32, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
The Tiber Septim hotel is a different issue. That's the default cell that all NPCs go to if they bug out, most often as the result of mods. —Legoless (talk) 19:35, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Exactly! It's the PS3 version, there are no mods here and due to the language swap SI kind of got "unplugged" from the main game. I'm actually testing this theory right now, I made a post-VC save at the Strange Door with all that crowd in front of it and now I'm going to make a new character and go to the Strange Door right away. --Revanchist (talk) 19:46, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, might not have been clear. Mods aren't the only reason NPCs end up in the Tiber Septim. They're just the most common cause, since if a cell gets deleted then that's where they go. Let us know if switching languages causes this Strange Door bug though. —Legoless (talk) 20:47, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
So, I made a new character, saved in the sewers right before exiting the tutorial, went to the Strange Door, went out - all is well, no NPCs. Loaded up the sewer save and actually went through all the trouble of getting myself vampirized and cured and used the language swap trick. Went to the Strange Door again, went back - once again a crowd of NPCs - I THINK they are all the same, but I'm not sure, but Arctus certainly was there - and the Golden Saints are also all naked now. So I think it's pretty safe to say that it's the language swap that does that. (PS3, 5th Anniversary Edition, region 2) --Revanchist (talk) 00:09, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
I've added it to the page so someone can confirm. —Legoless (talk) 00:38, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Shivering Isles.[edit]

I know this must be a frequent message but how come it appears even after the Main Quest. Because it says that the bridges between Tamriel and Oblivion have been shut. But it appears. Strange ? JackTurbo95 13:42, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Yes, and you can also summon daedra from Oblivion. The explanation for that is that a gateway to Oblivion can still be opened from the Nirn side at the request of a magic user. For the Strange Door, as Haskill says: "It poses no danger to Mundus; no compact has been violated. It is a doorway, an invitation. Perhaps you will accept it for what it is." In other words, it's something different from the standard Oblivion gate. Yes it's all a bit of a logical hack, but it would have been a huge loss to the game if there could never be any access to the Oblivion realms. rpeh •TCE 13:50, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Oblivion:[edit]

Why is this article in the Oblivion namespace? It's only present with the Shivering Isles plug-in, and isn't listed on any of the relevant pages anyway. Legoless 19:58, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

If no one disagrees, I think this page should be moved to Shivering:A Strange Door. --Legoless 13:28, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
I think the idea is that the Shivering namespace would only contain things from the actual location of Shivering. This Door is the connector from Oblivion to Shivering, an exit from Oblivion as it were, so it is more appropriate here. --Brf 13:31, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
I see your point, but this isn't the case elsewhere on the wiki. Tribunal:Asciene Rane and Shivering:A Door in Niben Bay are two examples. I think that expansion content should be separated from the main namespace at all costs - after all, that's why we have them. --Legoless 14:04, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
Good examples. There are two in Bloodmoon like that too. This page should be moved for consistency then. --Brf 14:29, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
I've moved it, but encountered the same problem rpeh had - the infobox. I think it's important that the namespace is correct, so tweaks should be made in order for it to work. SerCenKing has removed the region completely, which might be the best option, but the map link is still broken. Hopefully a cartographer can fix it. --Legoless 14:48, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
There seems to be no easy way to suggest a different namespace for the maplink through the infobox. I guess I figured out a hack to make it work correctly. As long as this is the only page with this kind of problem it's probably not worth changing {{Place Summary}} or {{Map Link}}. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:43, 30 September 2012 (GMT)
Glad someone managed to fix this. Nice work. —Legoless (talk) 14:50, 30 September 2012 (GMT)
