The Green Lady's sister, Lanwaen, may have been kidnapped from Deepwoods, a village famous for being the birthplace of several previous incarnations of the Green Lady as well.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Treethane Nilara.
  2. Search for Haron and his group.
  3. Investigate the Houndsmen's camp.
  4. Search for Lanwaen.
  5. Return to the village.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

You can start this quest through one of three characters: Henilien is along the road leading east from the village, Rondor is guarding the road outside Deepwoods heading towards Velyn Harbor, and Thamenarth is located at the crossroads between Deepwoods and the Dra'bul Wayshrine. All of them will tell you the roads have been empty lately, and that many Bosmer come to Deepwoods to pray at the shrine of the Green Lady in the center of town. Travelers have been scarce since werewolves kidnapped the Green Lady's sister, Lanwaen. You'll be instructed to speak with Treethane Nilara, who is currently praying at the Green Lady's shrine.

Speak to the treethane. She's elated when you tell her you'd like to assist. Lanwaen disappeared after she went out hunting, and hasn't been seen for a few days. Lanwaen's husband headed out with two other Mer: Oraneth and Ungiras. Houndsmen and werewolves have been seen in the area in increasingly alarming numbers. You'll have the opportunity to ask about where you should start your search:

"Lanwaen usually hunts near the southern falls. That's where Haron said they'd start the search.
If she encountered a foe, she might have loosed her entire quiver defending herself. I'd keep an eye out for arrows and follow any signs of struggle."
I'll catch up with the others.
"Thank you. It would be a shame if we were to lose two of the Green Lady's relatives to the Houndsmen in one shot.
Y'ffre guide you in your search."

You need to head southeast of the village to a spot located on the southern shore of the lake, southwest of Matthild's Last Venture. Here, you'll find a backpack at an abandoned campsite near the base of a waterfall. Inspect the backpack:

<The backpack appears to have been dropped hastily. Beside it, footprints dig deep into the mud, as when someone pushes off to run. Other footprints scattered about, both Wood Elves and werewolf, point toward the runner's path.>

There was a struggle here, but it seems the Bosmer involved got away. Footprints have been left behind by both werewolves and Mer. Next, you'll want to follow the footprints northwest to the opposite shore and head up the path. You'll find the corpse of Ungiras, a member of the search party mentioned by the treethane, at the top of the hill. Examine the corpse.

<Ungiras died recently, blood still oozing from his wounds.>
<Continue examining.>
<Ungiras's body appears to have been shredded by claws from behind. It looks like the search party was ambushed.>

Ungiras and his associates were taken by surprise. He was evidently killed by werewolves. Continue heading west along the path. You'll come across two werewolf corpses riddled with arrows and a hiding Oraneth. Speak to her.

"Shh! They'll hear you!"
Are you all right?
"I … I think so. The werewolves attacked as we followed this trail. One of the beasts knocked my blade out of my hand and nearly took my head off before I fled.
I hope Haron got away."
Which way did Haron go?
"He ran further up the trail. When the werewolves attacked, they ripped Ungiras to shreds. He … he died screaming at us to run.
Haron is an able fighter, like Lanwaen. He must be alive."
Did you find Lanwaen?
"We found her backpack and a few personal items at the falls, but nothing more. And then, the werewolves ambushed us along the trail."
Where does the trail lead?
"It connects to an old path leading to Hircine's shrine, but I haven't been that way in ages. It makes sense the Houndsmen might set up camp there.
I saw a few more arrows and corpses along the path, so maybe Lanwaen held her own."
Head back to the village. I'll try to find Haron.
"Good luck. May Y'ffre guide you."

Oraneth heads back to the village, leaving you to search for Haron. Your next destination is a straight shot south from Oraneth's location. You may have to contend with at least three werewolves on the way to Haron's supposed location. You'll find Haron alive at a clearing at the top of the hill, inspecting two arrow-ridden Bosmer corpses near a dead werewolf. Speak with him:

"Come no closer until you've stated your business."
I came to search for Lanwaen.
"Ah, good. Werewolves attacked us. I wounded a few of the beasts and got away, but not before they tore into Ungiras. I'd hoped these Houndsmen might hold clues, but nothing.
Have you seen Oraneth? Is she safe?"
She's alive. I sent her back to the village.
"Praise Y'ffre!
I told her this search might prove dangerous, but she wouldn't hear me. She and Lanwaen are cousins, and blood runs deep."
Are you hurt? Looks like this was quite a fight.
"No. These shafts are Lanwaen's handiwork. Only she and the Green Lady could weave such sweet death with a bow.
I've seen too many of her arrows. She might have used the last on these three fools."
How will we find her?
"The Houndsmen have come and gone from the campsite near the old shrine to Hircine.
If you'll search the camp, I'll do my best to track the patrols. One or the other will lead us to Lanwaen."
I'll search the camp. Meet back here?
"There's a small alcove nearby. An old hermit's den. I'll wait for you there.
Baan Dar be with you, friend."
Eliminate Cirithor and rescue Lanwaen

Haron informs you that the Houndsmen are camped out near the shrine to Hircine located just east of your location, then runs off north down the hill. Head into the camp and search for Lanwaen. Head into the camp and turn right at the first pair of tents on your right. You should be heading south on this right turn. You'll find Lanwaen's Bow in the middle of the dirt road behind the tents:

<The bow is finely crafted and light to the touch, an elegant weapon. An inscription is carved just below the grip, "For Lanwaen, my moon and stars." Haron will want this.>

Head up the trail east from the bow, and you'll come across Hircine's shrine. A Ragged Inscription is scribbled on a parchment sitting at the base of the shrine. Read it, then talk to Haron at the alcove west of the Houndsmen's camp.

"The patrols led me in circles. It was a complete waste of time. Have you found anything?"
I found Lanwaen's bow and this note. Cirithor's hiding her in a cave.
"This bow goes everywhere with Lanwaen! She wouldn't give it up willingly. It was an engagement gift from her father.
There's only one cave nearby which might serve to hide her. It's not far."
How should we proceed?
"Cirithor must die for what he's done. To kidnap the Green Lady's sister, my wife! The fool condemned himself by his actions.
Let's go to the cave and end this!"
I'm with you.
"Good. I hope Lanwaen is unharmed."

Cirithor is holed up in nearby Starwalk Cavern, located a paltry stroll west from your location. Take Haron into the werewolf-infested cave. When confronted with a fork in the road, take the southwestern path. You'll find Cirithor in a large chamber with a werewolf, and Lanwaen tied up in the back. Kill Cirithor and speak to Haron. Lanwaen is able to walk; you'll need to lead her and Haron northeast, back to Deepwoods. Once you return to the village, talk to Lanwaen. Then, head south to enter Treethane Nilara's House and speak to the treethane, who rewards you for saving Lanwaen.

  • Treethane Nilara won't exist in the village before starting the quest.
  • The backpack won't exist at the camp before starting the quest or reaching the related objective.
  • Ungiras' corpse, Oraneth and Haron won't exist before starting the quest or reaching the related objective.

Bugs[edit]

  • Some people may experience a bug where Lanwaen does not return to Deepwoods after rescuing her. Relog to fix this.

Quest Stages[edit]

The Hound's Men
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
The guard suggested Lanwaen might have been kidnapped by the Houndsmen. I should talk to Treethane Nilara and see what she can tell me.
Objective: Talk to Treethane Nilara
Treethane Nilara said Lanwaen is a skilled archer, but hasn't returned from her hunt. Houndsmen have appeared, and are likely to blame. I should search Deepwoods for signs of battle and see if I can meet up with the search party.
Objective: Search for Haron's Party: 0/3
Objective Hint: Search the Falls
Objective Hint: Follow the Footprints
Objective Hint: Follow the Trail
It looks like the search party was ambushed. As I followed the trail, I spotted Oraneth. I should see if she's all right.
Objective: Talk to Oraneth
Oraneth is unharmed, but she got split up from Haron when they were attacked. I should continue following the trail and see if I can find him along the way.
Objective: Search for Haron
I followed the trail and found Haron. I should see if he has uncovered any clues.
Objective: Talk to Haron
Haron suggested searching the nearby camp for clues. Something in the area might indicate where Lanwaen is being held.
Objective: Search for Clues: 0/2
Hidden Objective: Find Lanwaen's bow
Hidden Objective: Find the note
I found Lanwaen's bow and a note from Cirithor which indicates Lanwaen is being held in a nearby cave. I should tell Haron.
Objective: Talk to Haron
We know where Lanwaen is being held. Haron and I should enter the cave and kill Cirithor.
Objective: Kill Cirithor
With Cirithor dead, this pack of Houndsmen should be much less organized and easier to defend against. I should see if Haron and Lanwaen are ready to go back to the village.
Objective: Talk to Haron
Lanwaen is injured, but should make it back to the village. Now I just need to escort her back to the village.
Objective: Lead Haron and Lanwaen back to the village
Lanwaen made it back to the village. I should find out if she needs any more help.
Objective: Talk to Lanwaen
Lanwaen is back in the village. I should talk to Treethane Nilara and let her know Haron and Lanwaen are safe.
Objective: Talk to Treethane Nilara

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
