Mortals are conduits of such exquisite distress. They create so much but can withstand so little. There have been many attempts to capture wretchedness with little success until the forging of the Dolorous Cista. It takes a creation of suffering to be able to store it and convert it to power. And what exceptional power it is. The tale of the Dolorous Cista is not well known, the fate of all who assisted in its creation is as mysterious as the artifact itself. Still, as its chosen conduit, I Overfiend Kazpian will record what I know until the day comes when I too am consumed by this unrelenting relic.
It is said that the masters who created the Cista knew not what they toiled on. They withered away with every spit of their forges. The despair caught in their eyes deepened with every beat of their hammers. Their agony grew every time they twisted great sheets of cold iron so tightly the metal cried out in pain. Aches raced across their bodies and never abated until the sound of their agony rose to a roaring din so loud it drowned the crackle of their fires.
Until there was nothing left.
Nothing but the dust of crushed dreams, the flames of triumph, and the Dolorous Cista already partially filled with suffering.
