After Drillk's memory returned, he told me how to obtain the keystone. It's locked away in the Temple of Sul.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Drillk.
  2. Gain access to the temple.
  3. Solve the puzzle in the temple.
  4. Find the keystone.
  5. Return to Drillk.
  6. (Choice) Spare or kill Drillik for the keystone
  7. Return to Lodyna Arethi.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Now that Drillk has regained his memories, speak to him to begin the quest:

"Forgive me. The Dominion's torture ripped my thoughts away from myself. I tried to tell you before, but it was like speaking with a mind full of sap.
The keystone is sealed in the Temple of Sul. I'll do all I can to help you retrieve it."
How can I get it out?
"While my people still lived, we sealed the temple with a magic ward to keep angry spirits and undead from following us out.
Say 'betrux' to the temple door to unseal it."
What does betrux mean?
"It means 'open' in my language. I used to speak so many languages, but I've forgotten most of them.
There's much I can't remember. Go, I'll be fine. I just need some rest."
Wait here. I'll get the keystone.

Go to the Temple of Sul's entrance, just south of the tower, and inspect the ward:

"This door is sealed; to open, the key is your tongue."
Betrux.
Open.
"<Nothing happens>"
<Try Again.>
Unlock.
"<Nothing happens>"
<Try Again.>
Key. (Before learning passphrase)
"<Nothing happens>"
<Try Again.>

Saying "betrux" will dispel the ward, allowing you to operate the door and enter the temple. Do so.

The room you need to get to is sealed behind a door, so you'll have to make a full circuit around the temple. You may as well start Captured Time while you do so, by inspecting a relic lying on the ground shortly past the temple entrance.

When you reach the room you need to search for this quest, you'll find a puzzle: a pillar with four panels, each labeled with a birthsign. Activate the panels in this order: Serpent, Tower, Thief, Lover. The ward on the southern door will be dispelled; enter it.

In the room ahead, you'll see a grand room with an empty pedestal. As you approach it, the ghost of Morilye, an Ayleid, will appear, and admonish you for being a thief.

Morilye: "Another looter come to steal Ayleid treasures?"

Speak to her.

"Be gone from this temple, there is nothing for you here."
I'm looking for the keystone. Where is it?
"The keystone was stolen, absorbed by a Kothringi named Drillk.
The Knahaten flu killed the rest, but somehow he was immune. Did he send you here?"
Drillk said I could find the keystone in this temple.
"The Kothringi sent you to steal more Ayleid treasures! If only the flu had worked! Do not take me for a fool, thief. You shall not leave this tomb alive!"
[Lie] I don't know anyone named Drillk.
"Really? Then how did you break the ward on the temple? Drillk was the one who sealed me in here! You shall not leave this tomb alive!"
Did the Ayleids create the Knahaten flu?
"I don't answer to you. You are standing on hallowed ground, heathen!"

No matter how you answer her, Morilye will become hostile. You'll have to kill her to leave the ruins, and during battle, she'll demand that Drillk return the keystone. Once she's slain, exit the room; back in the puzzle chamber, there's a one-way door to the north, which can be operated using a button switch. Use that to exit the temple quickly.

Return to Drillk at the tower and speak with him.

"You're back, but without the keystone. What happened?"
An Ayleid ghost said you'd absorbed the keystone.
"Absorbed? I don't know ... I entered the temple and saw the keystone. And then, nothing.
Now that you've said it, I feel something. That must've been what kept me alive when the rest of my village died."
The ghost said you were the last of the Kothringi.
"Kothringi ... yes. I remember now! I am a Kothringi! A plague swept across the village. Sickness, death, corpses piled everywhere ....
Is that why I entered the temple? To find the keystone?"
I don't know, but we just need to keep you and the keystone away from the Dominion.
"No, I'm the last of the Kothringi. I should rejoin my people. There's a ritual to pass the keystone on to you, although it would mean my death.
Let me give you the keystone. At least my survival will have meaning."
I won't be responsible for your death. We must make do without the keystone.
"I am prepared for this.
My village and my family all died without purpose. I've lived long enough alone. I am ready to join them."
I need to reconsider this.
"Let me pass the keystone to you. Your need is greater than mine. I have no fear of death, only death without purpose."
[Returns to the previous choice.]
I must keep the keystone from the Dominion. Farewell, Drillk.
"There is nothing left for me here except for these statues.
Statues I built to remember my people, so I could have someone to talk to. Yes, that's why I built them. Someone to talk to ....
Your sacrifice and your people will be remembered.
"When you absorb the keystone, a part of the Kothringi will live on as well."
I need to reconsider this.
"Let me pass the keystone to you. Your need is greater than mine. I have no fear of death, only death without purpose."
[Returns to the previous choice.]
Thank you, Drillk.
"Thank you for helping me restore my sanity ... use this keystone well."

Sparing Drillk[edit]

You are offered a chance to go back and change your mind. If you persist, Drillk responds that you should have let him die and return to his people. Drillk returns to madness, walking around and talking to statues.

When returning to Lodyna, she will agree with your decision.

"You've been gone for some time. How'd it go?"
Drillk would've died had I taken the keystone from him. We can't use it.
"Hey, I wouldn't want the death of the last Kothringi on my conscience. Far as I'm concerned, the keystone was lost to the swamps."

Taking the keystone[edit]

If you choose to take the keystone, then you will condemn Drillk to die. As Drillk infuses you with the keystone, he'll say, "Thank you for helping me restore my sanity ... use this keystone well." He will then fall to the ground, dead.

Return to Lodyna Arethi to complete the quest:

"You've been gone for some time. How'd it go?"
I recovered the keystone, so to speak. I seem to have absorbed it.
"Absorbed it? I'm not sure how I'll report that to the vicecanons, but you recovered it. That's all that matters."

Notes[edit]

  • The Kothringi word "betrux" is pronounced "bet-ricks" (/bɛtrɪks/).

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
