Decanus Vulso

Decanus Vulso is an Imperial guard for the Temple of Mara. The Temple was attacked by bandits and the guards tracked them back to the ruins of Fort Sphinxmoth. The guards were outmatched and captured Decanus and his fellow guards, Eliana Salvius and Veranus Macatus. The Priestess of the Temple, Rafora Casca, is near the ruins looking for help to retrieve the items stolen by the bandits.

As you approach his location, he will call out for help.

Decanus Vulso: "Hey! Is someone up there? Help me! Please!"

He can be found in the "Croc Pit" below and will be standing on a platform, out of reach of the crocodiles.

"Please! You've got to help me get out of here! Those crocodiles look hungry."
How did you end up down here?
"I was being chased by the bandits when I lost my footing and tumbled into the pit. They laughed at me. Left me down here. I thought I was safe … until I heard the hissing."
How do we get out of here?
"There are some panels showing the constellations down this corridor. I think it's a mage-lock. If you touch the right ones you can open the door. The trick is figuring out the right order with all of those hungry crocs around."
I'll figure it out. Stay put.
"I thought I saw an old book or something by a skeleton near the panels. Maybe there's a clue in there."
[Intimidate] I hear a lot of noise, but nothing helpful. That had better change, fast.
"Fine, fine! I've been stuck down here, but I've overheard snippets of conversation. The bandit leader's name is Accalia. He stole the relics for the Stonefire Cult."
Anything else?
"He's expecting one of their leaders soon and he intends to sell him the Chalice of Mara. I heard one of the other relics is being kept in a tower, in some area open to the sky but still inside the ruins."

Once you have successfully opened the mage-lock, he will jump down and run over to you in the hallway.

Decanus Vulso: "I heard something click. It sounded like you got it open."

If you talk to him he will thank you.

"Thanks! I'm getting out of here!"

After you rescued the survivors, you can speak to him before Eliana:

"Thanks again, friend.
I'm still seeing crocodiles behind every boulder. Brrr."

After you complete the quest, he'll thank you again:

"I thanked you for saving me from the crocs, and now I can thank you for saving our holy relics.
Mara bless you, my friend."
